Abstract

Stunting is a growth and developmental disorder in children caused primarily by chronic malnutrition and inadequate access to essential nutrients during critical early childhood. Mothers with adequate nutritional knowledge tend to prioritise their children’s dietary needs, enabling optimal growth and development. Preventing stunting is vital due to its long-term impacts on physical, cognitive, and economic potential. This community service activity aimed to enhance mothers' and families' knowledge, awareness, and skills in stunting prevention from an early stage. The program involved 20 women of reproductive age in the working area of Pattingalloang Health Center, Makassar. Activities included health education through socialization, discussions, and distribution of leaflets covering definitions, causes, prevention, and management of stunting. Interactive counseling sessions emphasized the importance of the First 1,000 Days of Life, balanced nutrition, exclusive breastfeeding, and appropriate complementary feeding practices. The high participation and engagement rates reflected increased enthusiasm and awareness regarding stunting, an issue often underestimated in the community. Key supporting factors included active participation, health worker collaboration, and adequate facilities, while limiting factors involved time constraints and fewer participants than targeted. The program significantly improved mothers’ understanding of their crucial role in stunting prevention and demonstrated that community-based, participatory interventions effectively support national stunting reduction goals.

Abstract

Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is a critical obstetric emergency and a major contributor to maternal mortality. Understanding risk factors across demographic groups is essential for guiding clinical surveillance. This study aimed to analyze the association between demographic and clinical factors, including maternal hemoglobin level, age, parity, weight, neonatal birth weight, and clinical causes of PPH based on the 4T framework (Tone, Tissue, Trauma, Thrombin), and the incidence of PPH among postpartum women. An observational cross-sectional study was conducted on 40 postpartum women who delivered vaginally at a Midwife Independent Practice (PMB) in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, between February and September 2021. Total sampling was applied. Data were collected through direct observation and clinical records. PPH was defined as estimated blood loss ≥500 mL within two hours after delivery. Statistical analysis included chi-square tests and odds ratio (OR) calculations. The prevalence of PPH in this sample was 42.5%. Perineal rupture was the most common clinical finding (77.5%), followed by retained placenta (12.5%) and uterine atony (10%). A significant association was found between clinical causes and the incidence of PPH (p = 0.001). Maternal anemia (Hb <12 g/dL) was significantly associated with PPH (p = 0.018; OR = 7.5), indicating a high-risk subgroup. Other demographic factors, age, parity, maternal weight, and neonatal birth weight were not significantly associated with PPH (p > 0.05). PPH was significantly associated with clinical causes, particularly uterine atony and retained placenta, as well as maternal anemia. These findings support the need for routine antenatal hemoglobin screening and strengthened postpartum monitoring in midwife-led clinical settings to improve early detection and response to bleeding risks.

Abstract

Stunting is a condition of impaired growth and development in children caused by chronic malnutrition and recurrent infections. Posyandu cadres, as community health representatives, play a critical role in providing health education, delivering basic services, expanding healthcare access in remote areas, and raising public awareness of healthy lifestyles. Strengthening their knowledge and skills is therefore essential. This program aimed to enhance cadres’ competencies in producing cookies made from Moringa oleifera flour, Banggai sweet potato flour, and soybean flour. The implementation comprised several stages: situational analysis with community partners, obtaining authorization from local government, preparing tools and materials, conducting socialization activities, delivering cadre education and training sessions, followed by monitoring and evaluation. Pre-test results revealed low baseline knowledge, categorized as poor (5%), fair (70%), and good (25%). After the intervention, knowledge improved significantly to poor (0%), fair (15%), and good (85%), indicating a 60% overall increase. In addition, cadres gained practical skills in processing moringa, Banggai sweet potato, and soybean flours, as well as developing cookies derived from these local ingredients. In conclusion, the training program substantially improved cadres’ knowledge and practical skills, particularly in formulating innovative supplementary foods based on local food resources, thereby supporting community-based efforts to prevent stunting.

Abstract

This study investigates the role of Rambu Solo funeral rituals and Tongkonan ancestral houses in fostering interfaith harmony and social cohesion in Rembon, Tana Toraja, Indonesia. The research aims to explain how these traditions, beyond their symbolic functions, operate as practical mechanisms for conflict resolution and community solidarity in a highly plural society. This focus is crucial given Indonesia’s recurring challenges in managing religious diversity, where pluralism, if not effectively governed, can lead to social tension and communal conflict. A qualitative case study design was employed, drawing on in-depth interviews with traditional leaders, religious figures, and community members, complemented by participant observation and document analysis. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis to uncover the mechanisms, values, and processes embedded in Rambu Solo and Tongkonan. The findings reveal that Rambu Solo serves as a site of interfaith cooperation through collective participation in rituals, while Tongkonan provides a deliberative forum for consensus-building on social and religious issues. The implications suggest that Toraja traditions can serve as models for multicultural policy and practice, particularly in promoting local wisdom as instruments of peacebuilding. Adaptive strategies, including simplifying ritual obligations, integrating cultural values into education, and fostering interfaith dialogue between adat and religious leaders, are recommended to sustain harmony. The originality of this research lies in its demonstration that interfaith harmony emerges not only from doctrinal ideals or abstract principles but from living cultural institutions that embed pluralism into daily practices. By bridging Durkheim’s concept of collective consciousness and Weber’s theory of communal solidarity with empirical evidence from Toraja, this study contributes a distinctive model of sustainable pluralism rooted in indigenous traditions.
