Abstract

The transformation of higher education in Indonesia presents challenges and opportunities for universities to develop adaptive learning ecosystems. This study aims to analyze the Semester Learning Plans (RPS) of Basic Chemistry courses to evaluate their alignment with digital-era learning needs. Using a qualitative approach, the research involves document analysis of 19 RPS, focusing on learning methods and the integration of digital technology. Data were validated through questionnaires distributed to lecturers in charge of these courses. Results reveal that active learning methods, such as Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and Project-Based Learning (PjBL), dominate, yet the integration of innovative technologies like virtual laboratories and software-based simulations remains limited. The study highlights the importance of adaptive learning strategies, digital literacy, and culturally responsive teaching to support global demands. New findings emphasize the need for systematic lecturer training and institutional support to enhance technological adoption in teaching. This research contributes to the development of more effective and inclusive learning environments, benefitting both science education and society.

Abstract

The article aims to provide an overview of designing a citizen science project in ecological learning, focusing on the case of gold mining pollution in the Batanghari River area. This research employed a qualitative method, non-interactive type with the approach used being concept analytical. The design of the citizen science project is conducted through a sequential cycle with its main components including: identifying the need or problem, determining if citizen science is the right approach, designing the project, building the community, managing the data, and evaluating the project. This project design illustrates an organized method of citizen science in ecological learning that is customized to the gold mining area. The contribution of participants is very important to emphasise at every activity in the project design, therefore the development of activities in this project refers to the logic model. The type of project relevant to the issue raised is to assess the potential or ecological status of the Batanghari River through the measurement of biological quality elements, physico-chemical elements, and hydromorphological quality elements, referring to the European Environment Agency standards. The design incorporates two distinct components: a collaborative project model and a framework based on research, both of which are arranged into mini-project activities. As a result, the project will contribute to improving students' skills in monitoring and collaborating with communities, as well as accommodating ecological learning activities intended as actions to help mitigate the problem of pollution due to gold mining in the Batanghari River.

Abstract

This study aims to thoroughly describe virtual reality in the biology learning sector in general, the use of VR has been in the spotlight in the last two decades. This study conducted an in-depth bibliometric analysis using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method to identify research trends, most frequently researched topics and major contributions in this field based on 24 collected articles indexed by scopus between 2003-2023. We conducted bibliometric analysis using RStudio and VOSviewer. There was the highest increase for virtual reality research in 2021, which is the experience of the corona pandemic in various sectors. The largest average citation was in 2014. Based on the results of the analysis using RStudio and VOSviewer, the keywords virtual reality and biology have been widely carried out and are interrelated with computer programs, but for general biology learning it is still rare so that it can be used as a recommendation for further research gaps. By considering the findings from the bibliometric analysis, this study can provide practical recommendations, summaries and opportunities to find further research gaps. This literature review also underlines how VR research in biology has filled existing knowledge gaps and provided new insights into learning complex biological concepts. Recent studies, especially post-pandemic, have increasingly emphasized the pedagogical effectiveness of VR in improving student engagement, concept understanding, and learning outcomes.

Abstract

Merdeka curriculum is an education initiative in Indonesia that gives educators the flexibility to create learning that is more in-depth and suited to the needs of learners. This curriculum focuses on strengthening character and developing essential competencies, allowing students to go deeper into concepts and develop skills that are relevant to the challenges of the times. However, there are many obstacles in its implementation, especially in science learning, so it needs to be analyzed more deeply. The purpose of the research is to describe the planning, implementation, assessment, and students' responses to the implementation of the Merdeka curriculum in junior high school science subjects. The method used in this research is descriptive-quantitative. The subjects of this study were junior high school science teachers and students in grade VII in one of the private schools in the city of Bandung. The instruments used in this study were observation sheets and questionnaires. Based on the data analysis above, it can be concluded that the average score of science learning planning in the independent curriculum is 3.15, so it is in the good enough category. The average score of the science learning assessment obtained is 2.5, so it can be said that teachers still do not carry out learning assessments well. The average for all aspects of learner response has a good category, namely 73.62%. Thus, it is suggested that the teacher prepare everything related to learning activities to the maximum so that maximum results can be obtained
