Abstract

Despite growing policy emphasis on positive discipline in Indonesian schools, empirical evidence on leadership predictors of discipline culture remains limited. This study examines whether principals' transformational leadership is associated with positive discipline culture in Indonesian public primary schools. Using a quantitative ex post facto (correlational) survey design, data were collected from 130 teachers across 20 public primary schools using proportionate stratified random sampling to ensure school-level representation. Teachers completed validated Likert-scale questionnaires measuring transformational leadership (36 items; α = .975) and positive discipline culture (36 items; α = .975). Simple linear regression indicated that transformational leadership significantly predicted positive discipline culture (R² = .579; B = 0.718; p < .001), representing a large effect size (f² = 1.375). This study contributes district-level evidence positioning positive discipline culture as a proximal organizational outcome sensitive to transformational leadership behaviors. Implications for principal professional development, leadership coaching, and district-level supervision are discussed. The cross-sectional, self-report design limits causal inference and generalizability.

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of teachers’ pedagogical competence on learning quality in public elementary schools in Tanggungharjo Subdistrict, Grobogan Regency. Employing a quantitative correlational design, the study involved 137 teachers selected through proportional random sampling. Data were collected using validated and reliable questionnaires measuring pedagogical competence and learning quality, and were analyzed using Pearson correlation and simple linear regression with SPSS. The findings reveal a positive and significant relationship between pedagogical competence and learning quality (r = 0.832; p < 0.001), indicating a very strong association. The coefficient of determination shows that pedagogical competence contributes 69.3% to the variance in learning quality. The regression equation (Y = 27.769 + 1.045X) suggests that improvements in pedagogical competence are directly followed by increases in learning quality. These results highlight the critical role of pedagogical competence as a key determinant of instructional effectiveness and emphasize the importance of targeted professional development programs to enhance teaching quality in elementary education.

Abstract

This research explores a comprehensive model of Primary School Management Quality by analyzing the contributions of academic supervision, teachers' professional competence, and school leadership. Using a quantitative approach, data were gathered from 145 primary school teachers in Kedungjati chosen through purposive sampling. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data from participants. The instrument developed from established literature, included several constructs such as academic supervision, teacher professional competence, school leadership, and school management quality. Each construct was evaluated using multiple indicators adapted from previous studies and measured on a five-point Likert scale from strongly disagree to strongly agree. Before testing the hypotheses, the instrument's validity and reliability were assessed. The findings indicated that all items were valid and reliable, with Cronbach’s alpha values surpassing 0.80 for each construct. Additionally, classical assumption tests, including normality, multicollinearity, heteroscedasticity, and linearity, confirmed that the data were suitable for multiple linear regression analysis. However, school leadership did not exhibit a statistically significant direct effect at the 95% confidence level. Nonetheless, the simultaneous test revealed that the three variables collectively enhance the model's explanatory power, with an R² value of 0.792. These results imply that Primary School Management Quality is mainly influenced by instructional supervision and teacher competence, while school leadership might function through indirect or contextual pathways. This study offering empirical evidence on the integrated yet distinct roles of essential school-level factors and provides practical insights for supervisors, school principals, and education policymakers.

Abstract

A previous study reported that Kaempferia galanga L. (K. galanga) has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity. However, the research about how Kaemferia galanga L. inhibits lipid peroxidation (LPOI) has been limited. This study aimed to determine the physicochemical properties of the ethyl acetate fraction of K. galanga (EAFK) and its lipid peroxidation inhibitory activity. The anatomical structure of the rhizome was observed using a light microscope and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Microelement analysis was determined by SEM-Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (SEM-EDX) mapping. The 70% ethanol extract of K. galanga was fractionated by a liquid-liquid technique using ethyl acetate. Phytochemical, the total phenolic and flavonoid levels, ethyl-p-methoxycinnamate (EPMC) as a marker compound, the specific and non-specific parameters of the fraction were determined. The antioxidant activity was evaluated using DPPH and LPOI assays. The results showed that the rhizome of K. galanga has oil cells, and the powder contains microelements. The EPMC level in the EAFK was 0.66 % (w/w). At concentrations of 4000 ppm and 625 ppm, the EAFK could inhibit 15.90%±0.35 of DPPH free radical scavenging and 17.43%±6.52 of lipid peroxidation, respectively. Based on these findings, K. galanga contains microelements, EPMC, and the EAFK has an antioxidant effect via inhibiting lipid peroxidation and antiradical activity.

Abstract

Purpose - This study aims to formulate Qur’anic-Based Social and Emotional Learning (Q-SEL) as an integrative model for internalizing Emotional Spiritual Quotient (ESQ) based on the Qur’an in modern education. The study addresses the need to enrich Social and Emotional Learning with a Qur’anic spiritual dimension while maintaining its psychological and pedagogical foundations. Design/methods/approach - This study adopted an integrative literature review approach to examine and synthesize scholarly works related to Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), Emotional-Spiritual Quotient (ESQ), Islamic education, Qur’anic values, and character education. The literature was obtained from Google Scholar, Scopus, and ScienceDirect, covering publications from 2019 to 2025. A total of 35 relevant articles were reviewed and analyzed based on their relevance to the research focus, conceptual contribution, and methodological quality. The analysis was conducted thematically to identify key patterns, theoretical intersections, and potential frameworks for integrating social-emotional learning, spiritual intelligence, and Qur’anic values into character education. Findings - The findings show that Q-SEL consists of three main elements: Qur’anic values as the moral-spiritual foundation, ESQ as the internalization mechanism, and five SEL competencies as the operational learning structure. Qur’anic values such as iman, sabr, shukr, amanah, rahmah, ukhuwah, ta‘awun, justice, and ihsan strengthen self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. Research implication/limitation - This study is conceptual and literature-based; therefore, empirical testing is needed across educational levels and institutions. Originality/value - Q-SEL offers a conceptual contribution to Islamic education management by linking Qur’anic values, ESQ, and SEL for curriculum development, school culture, teacher development, and character education.

Abstract

This study aims to explore innovation in mathematics learning through the application of the design thinking approach to support students' mathematical creative thinking skills. The research employed an exploratory mixed-method approach based on the design thinking framework, focusing on the empathize, define, and ideate stages. The study involved 160 students and 11 mathematics teachers from four madrasahs in Kendal Regency, Indonesia. Data were collected through questionnaires and in-depth interviews and analyzed using descriptive qualitative analysis supported by triangulation techniques. In addition, a meta-analysis of 11 relevant studies was conducted using the OpenMEE application to examine the effectiveness of several proposed learning solutions. The results of the empathize stage showed that 67% of students had positive emotional responses toward mathematics learning, while 65% experienced difficulties in remembering formulas and 57.5% had difficulty understanding mathematical concepts. At the define stage, the main problems identified were students’ difficulties in understanding abstract mathematical concepts, low learning motivation, and the need for more interactive and differentiated learning approaches. The ideate stage generated several potential solutions, including the development of differentiated learning supported by interactive media such as H5P and Edpuzzle as well as the implementation of the REACT learning model. The meta-analysis results indicated a large and statistically significant effect of these learning innovations on improving students' mathematical abilities, with an estimated effect size of 1.683 (p < 0.001; 95% CI = 1.022–2.345). These findings suggest that integrating design thinking with evidence-based learning innovations can provide effective strategies for improving students’ mathematical creative thinking skills and creating more interactive and student-centered mathematics learning environments.
