Abstract

Biplot analysis can be constructed from  an ordinary and robust Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) approach.  A SVD approach ordinary need data matrix that no outliers or extreme data.  If a outliers data is found in this research, ordinary SVD biplot will not able to assure the mapping illustration between observation object and variable. To solve this problem, approaching method to robust SVD is applied.  The couple of  ordinary and robust SVD’ eigenvalue couple and eigenvector have distance minimizing feature among data matrix and estimation matrix with  Euclid norm or L2 norm and city block distance or L1 norm.  Biplot analysis which is based on  robust SVD method can give illustrations to a outliers resist observation object and variable.  The boxplot of the achievement of TPB IPB show that the data has outliers.  Robust and ordinary SVD to data matrix based biplot analysis shows the data graph and structure is almost identic.  It implies that outliers has no effect to data structure alteration.  A couple of extreme datas are given to the data matrix and then anlysised using ordinary and robust SVD. Ordinary SVD biplot result is far more different from data matrix biplot without extreme data, in the other hand robust SVD biplot shows small data structure which means it is not influenced by extreme data..

Abstract

Star anise essential oil (EO) and oleoresin (OL) consists of various volatile compounds that can be easily damaged and affect their quality and function. The degradation is mainly caused by the deterioration and release of their active components. Encapsulating the extracts into a composite matrix can give slow release and minimize the contact between active compounds and surrounding. Cellulose-PEG composite has good compatibility and affinity, it can retain the extracts so does their biological activities. In this work, the essential oil and oleoresin were encapsulated into the cellulose-PEG composite with a ratio of 1:2 (µL EO and OL per mg of composite). The cellulose was obtained from extraction of star anise residue of EO and OL isolation. The extraction steps were pre-alkalization, alkalization, and three-stage bleaching. Antibacterial assay for the samples uses a combination of agar disc and well method, where the pure one uses the disc as absorbent and both the disc and composite are put in the well. The diameter of the inhibition zone against Staphylococcus aureus was observed once a week for eight week. The result shows that pure and composite-packed star anise essential oil and oleoresin samples have fluctuating antibacterial activity during the obeservation. Both packed EO and OL show a lower difference of the diameter of the inhibiton zone which indicated the composite can retain the antibacterial activity of the star anise essential oil and oleoresin. Keywords: Star anise, antibacterial, essential oil, oleoresin, composite.

Abstract

Drug development continues to be carried out so that drugs can work effectively. Creating a drug formula can be achieved by combining two or more synergistic drug compounds by hybridization, blending, or synthesis. This study reports findings of antioxidant activity using the good DPPH method from the synthesis of eugenol and salicylic acid using the encapsulation technique. The encapsulation technique uses chitosan as a coating material to protect the active ingredients, taking advantage of its unique functional characteristics, including the ability to form bonds with the crosslink agent sodium tripolyphosphate (Na-TPP) at a speed of 13,500 rpm with a pH of 4.2 to optimize the formulation. The encapsulation system produced majority particles measuring 241.0 ± 19.8 nm, with an encapsulation efficiency of 58.29 ± 0.40%. The results of the compound antioxidant test (CS-ES NP) showed better results than pure ES, with an IC50 value of 1.64 ?g/mL. The morphology results after encapsulation showed round and dense particles, indicating that the ES compound was successfully encapsulated. Keywords: encapsulation, antioxidant, eugenyl salicylate, blending

Abstract

Waste is one of the crucial environmental problems in Indonesia. Malang City produces around 485 tons of waste every day. This research aims to identify what types of plastic waste are selected at the Supit Urang Final Processing Site and to find out the mass of each type of plastic waste that is sorted, to analyze the volume of plastic waste differentiated based on the types at the Supit Urang Landfill, Malang City. Plastic waste is non-organic waste that is difficult to decompose naturally. In 2019, the Regional Environmental Management Agency (BPLHD) stated that plastic waste in Jakarta reached 13% of 6,000 tons per day and annual calculations reached 5.4 tons. Determining the number of samples in this study used the SNI 19-3964-1994 approach, the waste sampling method, sampling method, and analysis of plastic waste samples were chosen in the research methodology. The research results showed that the types of plastic waste at the Supit Urang landfill include polyethylene terephthalate (PET), low-density polyethylene (LDPE), polypropylene (PP), and others (O), with a mass of each type, namely Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) 27.7 kg, Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) 27.5 kg, Polypropylene (PP) 23.2 kg and Others (O) 21.7 kg. It is hoped that sorting plastic waste according to type through further processing can reduce waste generation in general, especially in Malang City. Keywords: types of plastic waste, sorting at final processing sites, volume of plastic waste

Abstract

Vanillin is a main component in vanilla, which is widely used in the industrial world. Market demand for vanillin extract continues to increase, while the availability of vanilla pods is decreasing. To overcome this problem, research on the synthesis of vanillin continues to be carried out and develops every year. This research aims to examine the conversion level and selectivity of the catalyst as well as microwave radiation efficiency usage in vanillin synthesis. Catalyst CoO/ZnAl2O4 was synthesized from CoO and ZnAl2O4 using the impregnation method, then analyzed using FTIR, XRD, and SEM-EDX. Vanillin synthesis was conducted in two steps, incorporating microwave usage at 120oC, underwent 30 minutes to be completed then followed by oxidation around 10- and 15-minutes involving nitrobenzene also 1%, 4%, and 7% of catalysts CoO/ZnAl2O4. The result showed that during 10 and 15 minutes, the selectivity value and various yield percentages for each time variation and catalyst loading of vanillin had been successfully 100% converted. The best result was obtained using CoO/ZnAl2O4 with 4% catalyst loading for 15 minutes. The selectivity value and yield percentages were 67.78% and 7.5%. A one-step vanillin synthesis with conventional reflux could also be a comparison. The reactions were done at 130oC for 2 and 3 hours with 4% catalyst loading.

Abstract

Setyawan D, Maren A, Budianta D, Warsito W, Priatna SJ. 2022. Liquid organic fertilizer from pineapple peel waste for rural rubber land improvement in West Payaraman, Ogan Ilir. In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-10 Tahun 2022, Palembang  27 Oktober 2022. pp. 878-884.  Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).Rubber plantations are an important source of income in Payaraman District, Ogan Ilir and are generally cultivated on marginal lands. Meanwhile, pineapple peel waste that is not utilized will pile up into garbage even though it can be used as liquid organic fertilizer or compost. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of POC pineapple peel waste in increasing soil N, P, and K nutrients and latex production. The study used a split plot design with the main plot of weed clearing (without and with weeding) while the subplots were POC doses of 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4% (equivalent to 0, 10, 20, 30 and 40 ml POC). per liter of water). Watering is done with a frequency of once per week. The treatment was repeated three times. The experimental unit consisted of 30 mature rubber trees. Latex is collected weekly. The results showed that the POC of pineapple peel had a pH of 3.95; 0.05 % N; 0.027 % P and 0.19 % K. The initial soil pH value from 4.13 to 4.18 increased to around pH 5.0 after POC application for 4 weeks. Likewise, the total N content is about 0.26%; P-total 100 mg/kg and K-total 14 mg/kg. ANOVA results showed that the best treatment was a dose of 30 ml/liter with a latex production of 770 g/tree. Based on these observations, it can be concluded that the POC of pineapple waste has the potential to improve soil fertility and latex production. Weeding is important to reduce nutrient competition with rubber plants.
