Abstract

Community-based education begins with a critical educational perspective that wants to challenge the government's hegemony in the field of education through the democratization of education. This study aims to examine the concept of community-based education that is applied in Indonesia. This study is library research with analysis through a survey of relevant literature data, both in the form of reference books, previous research results, articles, notes, and journals. The results of the study indicate that community-based education in Indonesia has been implemented through various programs developed in the education process in the form of formal and non-formal education rights according to religious characteristics and social and cultural environments. However, there are several obstacles to its implementation in Indonesia, including 1) the relatively high level of community dependence on the government, 2) the weak economy of the community, and 3) school-based education still being dominant. Some supporting factors include: 1) many community-based institutions have succeeded in implementing this model independently, 2) the culture of the Indonesian people who are predominantly Muslim, and 3) the spirit of cooperation

Abstract

In the modern era, education plays a vital role in preparing students to navigate an interconnected and technologically advanced world. Islamic Religious Education (PAI) is crucial for fostering moral and spiritual development among Muslim students. However, the current curriculum often fails to address 21st-century competencies such as critical thinking, digital literacy, and global citizenship. This study examines the alignment of the PAI curriculum with future generational needs, the integration of technology in Islamic education, and the gaps between traditional content and modern educational demands. Using interviews, classroom observations, surveys, and focus group discussions, the research highlights both the strengths and limitations of the curriculum. This study proposes a comprehensive reform approach that balances traditional Islamic principles with modern pedagogical practices. Key recommendations include curriculum updates to incorporate 21st-century skills, professional development for educators, and investments in digital infrastructure. By adopting these measures, Islamic Religious Education can evolve to empower students as morally grounded, critical thinkers, and global citizens, ensuring its relevance in the 21st century.

Abstract

This research examines the integration of religious moderation values in educational leadership in Samarinda, with the aim of encouraging student character development through Islamic Religious Education (PAI). Educational leaders play an important role in instilling the values of religious moderation in the school environment, which involves promoting tolerance, inclusivity and respect for diversity. This research uses a qualitative approach, using interviews, observations, and document analysis to explore the strategies used by PAI school leaders and teachers to integrate these values into the curriculum and daily school activities. Research findings indicate that inclusive leadership practices significantly influence the acceptance of diverse beliefs among students, reduce the potential for extremism, and promote a balanced religious perspective. Furthermore, this research highlights specific pedagogical strategies that effectively integrate the values of religious moderation, emphasizing character-building values such as empathy, cooperation, and understanding. By integrating the values of moderation into religious education, school leaders not only support national unity and social cohesion, but also contribute to the holistic character development of students.
