Abstract

Technological developments create extraordinary social media access. Teenagers, most social media users, make them vulnerable to FOMO. FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) is a feeling of worry and anxiety teenagers feel when they miss moments on social media. The goal is to find a valid and reliable FoMO scale instrument for Indonesian adolescents. The research model is a mix-method with qualitative data through interviews and literature studies to see the relevant instrument grid. The test subjects were 77 adolescents with an average age of 19-20 years—the data analysis with product moment and alpha-Cronbach. The conclusion of this study first found the existence of FoMO among adolescent social media users. Qualitative data found a lattice of instruments with aspects of FoMO on social media from a) not being able to stay away from cellphones, b) frequently checking social media to find out what friends have uploaded, and c) feeling uncomfortable when not attending gatherings and sharing information with friends, and d) often evoke social media status related to their activities. Second, the most significant cause of FoMO is social media and smartphones. The test of the validity and reliability of the scale instrument found that as many as 20 of the 24 FoMO statement items were valid with a reliability coefficient of 0.721, which was included in the high category. All researchers, with the emergence of various prevention, alleviation strategies, psychoeducational activities, guidance and counselling, can apply the FoMO scale for social media.

Rational emotive behavior counseling becomes an intervention model to relieve anxiety and to help the counseling process in measuring feelings and emotions. This research determined the contribution of the rational emotive counseling behavior model to developing learners' positive conformity. This ex post facto research applied true experimental design. The research subjects consisted of 20 learners. Then, the researchers grouped them into two groups. They were an experimental group with 10 learners and a control group with the other 10 learners. The applied data collecting techniques were measured through interviews and a positive conformity instrument consisting of 32 items. The obtained coefficient of Cronbach Alpha was 0.802. The data analysis applied inferential analysis with the t-test formula. The rational emotive behavior counseling model significantly influenced the experimental group’s improvement. The applied counseling model, rational emotive behavior, was effective to improve the learners’ positive conformity. Both groups, experimental and control groups, experienced significant and different improvements. The experimental group had significantly improved positive conformity to the control group. Abstract

This study aims to assess the existence of a mediating variable in the form of hardiness in the implementation of group psychoeducation therapy to increase tolerance for academic distress. The research method used was an experiment, a pretest-posttest control group design involving 16 final year students who were selected proposive sampling from 135 students. The results indicate that there is an indirect effect on the implementation of group psychoeducation therapy in increasing the tolerance for academic distress through hardiness as a positively related mediation. This effect was considered to be greater than the direct effect of the psychoeducation therapy group on tolerance for academic distress, although they were both positively related.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of Iso Trimorogo counseling, a culture-based counseling approach rooted in Tri Dharma Mangkunegaran Philosophy, on reducing violent behavior in high school students by fostering the character trait of fairness. The research involved 120 high school students from Central Java Province, Indonesia divided into an experimental group receiving Iso Trimorogo counseling and a control group subjected to conventional counseling methods. The efficacy of the counseling was assessed using a fairness character scale and a bullying behavior scale, administered pre- and post-treatment. The study employed bootstrapping analysis with 5000 resampling iterations, maintaining an error threshold of 5% (p < 0.005). The results indicated a significant direct effect of Iso Trimorogo counseling in diminishing violent behavior (F = 9.027) and an indirect effect through the mediation of fairness character development (F = 4.026), with a negative correlation between fairness character and violent behavior (R = 0.389). These findings underscore the importance of integrating character education, particularly focusing on fairness, in counseling strategies to effectively address violent behavior in schools. The study advocates for the adoption of culture-based counseling approaches like Iso Trimorogo in educational settings to enhance student behavior and character development.
