Abstract

Indonesia’s cultural diversity, encompassing various ethnicities, religions, and languages, presents both opportunities and challenges for social cohesion. Schools play a vital role in fostering national unity, with Civic Education (Pancasila and Civic Education or PPKn) serving as a key tool in promoting inclusivity and peace. This study examines the role of PPKn in building peaceful schools within Indonesia’s diverse primary education context, identifying its contributions, challenges, and areas for improvement. This study analyzes peer-reviewed articles, policy documents, and educational reports published in the last decade using a qualitative literature review. Content analysis was conducted to identify key themes related to Civic Education, character formation, and diversity management in schools. Findings indicate that integrating Pancasila values such as tolerance, social justice, and cooperation into PPKn fosters students’ critical thinking, empathy, and appreciation for diversity. However, challenges persist, including limited teacher preparedness, outdated teaching approaches, and curriculum gaps in addressing contemporary issues like digital-era conflicts and social polarization. Strengthening teacher training, implementing participatory learning methods, and adopting inclusive pedagogies are essential for effective PPKn delivery. This study concludes that a value-based and adaptive Civic Education approach is crucial for promoting peace in Indonesian schools. It recommends curriculum updates, enhanced teacher development, and stronger school-community collaboration to reinforce social harmony.

Abstract

The Industrial Revolution 4.0, which makes the internet its backbone, has accelerated the process due to the Covid-19 pandemic which forced citizens to shift all their activities to the digital world, including the involvement of citizens in responding to public discourse. Citizens' public discourses that previously took place in real public spaces have now shifted to digital spaces, one of which is social media. To bridge these changes, a conceptualization of civic engagement is needed through a digital platform. The online citizen involvement was later referred to as online civic engagement, namely civic engagement activities specifically carried out by digital citizens involving several types of digital media, one of which is social media. This literature study provides a clearer picture of the forms of community interaction through social media that go beyond what is known as "slacktivism". When many democracies are faced with the problem of decreasing citizen participation in politics, social media comes with a new form of civic interaction with what is meant by online civic engagement.

Abstract

This study examines the development of Civic Education learning in Indonesia in recent years, focusing on analyzing trends in academic publications related to this topic. Through a literature study approach, data was collected from 200 relevant articles drawn from journals, proceedings, theses, and other documents obtained through observation and analysis of documents using the Publish or Perish and Scopus Premium applications. Abstract

Civic education serves as a crucial foundation for students' character building, particularly in fostering their understanding of democratic principles. With the advancement of technology, digital literacy has become an essential element that significantly enhances student engagement in democracy. This study aimed to investigate the impact of digital literacy implementation in civic education across three schools in Bandung: SMA Negeri 11, SMA Negeri 22, and SMK Negeri 14. The research involved three civic education teachers, three IT staff, and nine students from these schools as participants. The methodology adopted was qualitative, utilizing data collection techniques such as observations, interviews, and documentation. The findings revealed that integrating digital literacy in civic education at SMA Negeri 11, SMA Negeri 22, and SMK Negeri 14 positively influenced students' participation in democratic activities. However, the results indicated that significant improvements were not achieved across all indicators, particularly in creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration. The study suggests that while digital literacy has the potential to enhance civic education, further efforts are required to optimize its benefits comprehensively. Overall, the research highlights the need for innovative approaches to effectively integrate digital literacy in civic education to foster a more engaged and democratically active student body.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal how reflection on empowering civic communities serves as a forum for strengthening civic engagement, particularly in the realms of political voice and civic activity. Civic engagement is a significant aspect of the discourse on cultivating smart and good citizen, especially given the technological advances that can optimize widely recognized and accessible digital platforms. This study employs a phenomenological method with a qualitative approach to explore the reflections of civic communities on enhancing civic engagement. Data collection involves interviews and documentation studies, with data analysis conducted using Atlas.ti.
