Abstract

The objective of this research was to find the effect of the RADEC strategy in teaching English vocabulary  mastery  in  class  VI  SD  Negeri  Patompo  II  Makassar.    This  study  was  a  pre- experimental design with one group given the RADEC strategy. The population of this research were  all  students  of  SD  Negeri  Patompo  II  Makassar.  The  population  of  this  research  used purposive sampling technique. The sample consists of 15 students.  Data were collected using tests (pretest and posttest). The data collection technique used SPSS version 28. The results of descriptive  statistical  analysis  showed  that  the  mean  pretest  result  was  56.13  in  the “poor” classification. The mean posttest result was 85.86 in the “good” classification. Therefore, it can be concluded that the RADEC strategy effect in teaching English vocabulary mastery at SD Negeri Patompo II Makassar. Keywords— RADEC Strategy, Vocabulary Mastery

Abstract

The research objective was to determine the effectiveness of using Brainstorming Techniques in improving students' speaking skills in this case accuracy, fluency and comprehension. This study uses the pre-experimental research method with one pre-test and post-test group. Research using random sampling technique. The sample of this research was students of SMA Negeri 2 Majene grades 11-4 consisting of 27 students. With several topics that researchers use as instruments in the pre-test and post-test. The result of the increase is proven by the t-test value. The findings state that the t-test is greater than the t-table. This indicates that the use of Brainstorming Techniques is effective in improving students' speaking skills. This means that the use of Brainstorming Techniques is effective in developing students' speaking skills in terms of accuracy, fluency and comprehension in grade 11-4 students of SMA Negeri 2 Majene. Keywords— speaking skill, Brainstorming technique, fluency, Accuracy, comprehensibility

Abstract

This study aimed to find out the teachers’ questioning strategies during the classroom Interaction and the reason why the English teacher used their questioning strategies. The English teachers at SMAN 4 Takalar were the subjects of this study. In this study, the method conducted descriptive-qualitative. The instrument of this study was used observation checklist and interview protocol. Observation and interviews were used to collect data on all activities in the classroom. The results of the study indicate that teachers employed several questioning strategies in the classroom, including rephrasing, simplification, repetition, decomposition, and probing. These strategies were used for various purposes based on the functions associated with each strategy. The reason why teachers used these specific questioning strategies is likely due to the functions associated with each strategy. Teachers may have used rephrasing, simplification, repetition, decomposition, and probing to assess students' comprehension, draw their attention, support their contributions in class, and seek clarification or confirmation. These strategies help teachers gauge student understanding, encourage active participation, and create an inclusive and engaging learning environment.Keywords— Teachers’ questions, questioning strategies, classroom interaction

Abstract

The aim of this study was to know the impact of the Matching Game on students’ vocabulary mastery. This research method was a pre-experimental design. The population of this research was the seventh-grade students of SMPN 1 Bajeng in academic year 2022/2023 through a convenience sampling technique. The sample of the research is seventh grade D which consists of 31 students. The pre- and post-tests for the research's vocabulary test were given. The results of the study demonstrated that vocabulary development in students can benefit from the use of matching games. It was established that the pre-test mean score for students was 50.19, while the post-test mean score for students was 68.13. The usage of a matching game could enhance students' vocabulary, according to the statistics.Keywords— Matching Game, Vocabulary Mastery.

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the benefits and challenges of using video as a teaching medium: teachers’ perception. Besides, this research also attempts to identify the benefits and challenges of using video as a teaching medium. Learning media is currently needed by teachers to support the teaching and learning system in the classroom. One of the media applied is video. This study aims to determine the benefits and challenges of using videos in the teaching and learning process based on teacher perceptions. In conducting this research, researchers used qualitative methods to find out and explore more detailed information. The qualitative approach method used by the researcher was descriptive qualitative. Two English teachers were selected as participants in this study. All participants were English teachers in one of the high schools in MTs Al-Hidayah consisting of two female teachers. The researcher used interviews as the data collection instrument. There were eight findings, four advantages, and four challenges. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that teachers' perceptions of the use of video-based learning media are very positive. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of video-based learning media can increase teacher creativity, increase student attention, increase student motivation, and Increase learning effectiveness.Keywords—Teaching video, benefits, and challenges

Abstract

This research aims to find out what students' motivations are when enroll an English Language Schools. This research used a qualitative research method with a qualitative descriptive design involving 7 grade 3 students at SMA Negeri 3 Makassar. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews and documentation. The result of this research reveals that several students’ motivations when enrolling for an English Language schools experienced intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. But the most dominant motivation is extrinsic motivation.Keywords: Motivation, Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivation, English Language Schools.

Abstract

The aims of this research are to find out the comparison between using the Make a Match learning model with the Pair check learning model to improve learning outcomes in students VII MTs As'Adiyah Ereng - Ereng Tompobulu Bantaeng Regency. This research used Quantitative Method Data analysis. The data collection technique uses a learning outcomes test using 20 number questions. The research subjects were 23 students of grade VII B MTs As-Adiyah Ereng-Ereng Bantaeng who were selected using Cluster Random Sampling. The results of the analysis data about the significant difference between the Make a Match and Pair Check learning models. The average outcome of learning English using the Make a Match learning model was 57.14 and the average outcome of learning English using the pair Check learning model was 69.04. The results of inferential analysis of the data show significant value tcount = 2,429 > ttable = 2,080 with a real level of α= 0.05. It can be concluded that there are significant differences in English learning outcomes towards the use of the Make a Match learning model and the Pair Check learning model for grade VII B MTs As-Adiyah Ereng-Ereng Bantaeng students.Keywords: Comparison, Make A Match, Pair Check

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to ascertain how students in SMAN 10 Jeneponto's eleventh grade may improve their pronunciation ability by employing English songs. This research used a pre-experimental design and a quantitative methodology. The eleventh grade students of SMAN 10 Jeneponto comprise the population of this research, while the sample consisted of 33 students in class XI.3. Data were gathered using pre- and post-testing. The analysis's findings indicate that the post-test mean score was 72.96 in the "good" classification and the mean pre-test score was 39.42 in the "very poor" classification. The probability value (sig. 2-tailed) = 0.000 is below the significance level of 0.05. Pronunciation abilities in grade eleven of SMAN 10 Jeneponto. According to the investigation, the hypothesis H0 is rejected and H1 is supported. The researcher came to the conclusion that using English songs helped students in the eleventh grade of SMAN 10 Jeneponto pronounce words more correctly based on the results of the data analysis. Keywords: English Song, Pronunciation Ability.

Abstract

This study aims to describe how the use of social media in the process of learning English vocabulary. This study uses a qualitative method using a descriptive approach. To achieve the research objectives, data were obtained through observations and interviews. The participants included in this study were 25 students of class VIII.A SMPN 03 Mattiro Sompe Kab.  Pinrang  as  who  have  passed  the  required  criteria  (cluster  random  sampling).  The results of this study indicate that social media can be used as, (1) learning medium because it is easily accessible. (2) as an information source for teachers and students (3) Increase students' motivation in learning English. (4) Increase students' vocabulary to make it easier for students to learn English. (5) Get used to listening and reading English words on social media. Abstract

This research aims to find out the problems and strategies of the year 8 students at SMP Negeri 2 Pangkajene to deal with problems in speaking English. This research used a descriptive qualitative method. The subject of this research were five students of the year 8 at SMP Negeri 2 Pangkajene. The interview was used as the main instrument to collect the data. The results of this research showed that five students of the year 8 at SMP Negeri 2 Pangkajene had some speaking problems in the class which hampered them when speaking English. They are lack of confidence, limited vocabulary, peer pressure, lack of support, inhibition, feeling of having nothing to say, low or uneven participation, mother-tongue use, and lack of drive. But based of the interview results with students among those all problems, lack of confidence and lack of vocabulary are the biggest reason of their problems in speaking English. And to deal with the problems in speaking English, students employed some strategies. They are Use Paraphrase, Create New Words, Use Non-linguistic Resources, Active Participation, Vocabulary Expansion, Practice Conversation, Listening Skills, and Peer Collaboration. But based of the interview results with students among those all strategies, active participation, vocabulary expansion, and peer collaboration are commonly used by students in overcoming problems and improve their speaking skills.  Keywords:  Speaking, Problems in Speaking English, Students’ Strategies in Speaking English.
