Abstract

Indonesia's multicultural landscape poses both opportunities and challenges for vocational education, particularly in preparing tourism students to develop intercultural sensitivity while sustaining local cultural identity. This study explores the role of integrating Sasak local wisdom into the management of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) to strengthen student intercultural competence in West Lombok. Using a mixed-methods approach, qualitative case studies were conducted at SMKN 1 Batulayar and SMKN 1 Lingsar, including interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis. The results indicate that students generally demonstrated moderate to high levels of intercultural sensitivity, with notable variations across dimensions. Students at SMKN 1 Lingsar showed stronger engagement in cross-cultural interactions, whereas those at SMKN 1 Batulayar exhibited a higher level of self-confidence. Qualitative findings further reveal that effective lesson planning, inter-teacher collaboration, contextual learning practices, and active community involvement play a crucial role in embedding local cultural values within IRE. This study concludes that integrating local wisdom and religious education contributes to the development of an inclusive character. It fosters tolerance and enhances students' readiness to navigate a multicultural tourism environment. From a theoretical perspective, this research advances the discourse on intercultural education by proposing a dual-path intercultural sensitivity model encompassing collaborative and experiential pathways as a novel framework for strengthening cultural responsiveness in vocational schools.

Abstract

The achievement of the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), regarding quality education, in Indonesia is still faced with disparities in accessibility, especially for marginalized groups who are difficult to reach by the formal system. This study focuses on an in-depth analysis of the potential and challenges of the People's School Program as a grassroots initiative to bridge this educational gap. Using a descriptive qualitative approach that integrates literature studies and field observations, the study evaluates the program's effectiveness in providing inclusive education services. The study findings indicate that People's Schools have significant potential to reduce financial barriers and increase independent learning participation by 25%, primarily driven by strong parental support. However, the sustainability of this program is still hampered by funding uncertainty, lack of curriculum standardization, and the qualifications of volunteer teachers who have not been certified. The main conclusion confirms that People's Schools function as a strategic complement to formal education, which requires strengthening legitimacy through cross-sector collaboration between the government and the private sector. In addition, the integration of digital learning technology is recommended as an adaptive solution to overcome geographical barriers and increase graduate competitiveness to achieve equitable and inclusive national education.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the characteristics of vocational high school (SMK) teachers in Ternate City based on their level of commitment and level of abstraction, to determine appropriate supervisory approaches. Although instructional supervision has been widely examined, studies that map teacher characteristics as a basis for determining supervisory approaches—particularly in the context of vocational education in eastern Indonesia, such as Ternate—remain limited. This research employs a descriptive quantitative approach with a sample of 93 vocational high school teachers selected through random sampling. The instrument was adapted from Glickman’s (1981) theoretical framework and has undergone construct validity and reliability testing (Cronbach’s Alpha α = 0.83 and α = 0.80). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The findings identify four categories of teacher characteristics: teacher dropouts (24%), unfocused workers (28%), analytical observers (21%), and professional teachers (27%). These results indicate that more than half of the teachers have not yet reached the professional category, thus requiring supportive and participatory supervisory approaches. Accordingly, a collaborative supervision approach based on Glickman’s syntax—comprising pre-conference, observation, analysis, post-conference, and post-critique—is recommended as a relevant supervisory strategy. Practically, these findings may serve as a reference for supervisors and school principals in designing differentiated supervision programs aligned with teacher profiles. Theoretically, this study contributes to the literature on mapping teacher characteristics within the context of vocational education in Indonesia.

Abstract

Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a local communication network that is connected through a public network, with private network data security, data transfer closure from illegal access and network scalability to become the main standard in Virtual Private Network (VPN). In building a VPN at PT. Penas (Persero) conducted by the method of Internet Protocol Security (IP Sec). IP Sec works on the network layer, protects and authenticates communications on IP between hosts and functions both on IPv6 and IPv4 traffic. IP Sec is actually a feature that is owned by IPv6 but by some developers it was applied to IPv4. PT. Penas (Persero) is a subsidiary of PT. PPA (Persero), which in PT. Penas, the local network system and the internet and also data communication with PT. PPA (Persero) that are used are still very simple and vulnerable to the security of its data. The results of this study are implementing VPN with IP Sec method at PT. Penas, where with the concept of IP security, internet access in conducting data communication between PT. PPA (Persero) and PT. Penas can be done quickly, realtime, and confidential. Because basically VPN is a relatively safe way of networking because it uses encryption and special protocols to provide data security. Keywords: Networking, Secur, Virtual Private Network.
