Abstract

Teaching abstract concepts in science, such as atomic structure, chemical reactions and biological systems, often faces fundamental challenges due to the limitations of conventional visualisation methods, resulting in low levels of conceptual understanding and student motivation. This article aims to outline the integration of Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and gamification in developing interactive simulations to visualise these abstract concepts in an immersive and engaging manner. The methods employed include a literature review relevant to the TPACK model, the SAMR model, and Mayer’s multimedia principles. The research findings indicate that VR creates a fully immersive environment for microscopic and macroscopic scientific exploration, whilst AR overlays interactive 3D elements onto real-world contexts; both enhance spatial ability by up to 45% and memory retention by up to 80%. The integration of gamification through badge mechanics, quests, and leaderboards reinforces intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in line with Self-Determination Theory, with a 93% increase in cognitive-emotional-behavioural engagement and an N-gain score of 0.63–0.78 in the Indonesian case study. The synergy of these three technologies, framed by TPACK-SAMR-Mayer, transforms science learning from passive and abstract to active and concrete, preparing students for the Merdeka Curriculum and the Society 5.0 era. Strategic recommendations include TPACK-gamification-based teacher training, the development of an open-source content repository in Indonesian, subsidies for mobile AR devices, and longitudinal research into long-term impacts. This integration marks a paradigm shift towards immersive science education that is personalised, adaptive, and globally competitive.

Abstract

The research aims to determine the use of ICT-based learning models on students’ learning motivation at Darul Falah High School. The object of the research was students of Class X of Darul Falah High School, namely to see whether students’ abilities in ICT-based learning in geography subjects increased students learning motivation. The research method used is the classroom action research method. The term classroom action research emphasizes class as a research setting. The research developed was in the form of a cyclical review process consisting of four stages, namely (1) planning, (2) implementation, (3) observation and (4) reflection. The results of this study are students’ learning motivation before participating in Information and Communication Technology (ICT)-based learning. There is no enthusiasm for learning. Students chatted more, did not focus on the lesson, and did not want to discuss and do assignments well. There is no competition to get good grades, and learning objectives have not been achieved. Understanding of the subject matter has not appeared. Implementing ICT-based learning provides benefits, including being more practical and making it easier for teachers to deliver subject matter. Students find it easier to access information related to the subject matter. This is supported by facilities and infrastructure in schools that support the ICT-based learning process, namely the existence of internet facilities.

Abstract

This study aims to systematically examine the concepts, theories, and practices of multimodal learning media innovation as a strategy for improving the quality of 21st-century learning. This study uses a library research method by examining various scientific sources such as journals, proceedings, and textbooks that discuss the integration of print, audiovisual, and computer technology media. The results of the study show that multimodal learning is based on the Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning and the social semiotics approach, which emphasises the importance of combining various modes of communication in constructing meaningful understanding. The integration of print, audiovisual, and computer technology media produces pedagogical synergy that can strengthen motivation, improve cognitive effectiveness, and support collaborative and independent learning. The application of multimodality in learning media design has been proven to support the development of 21st-century competencies such as critical thinking, creativity, communication, and digital literacy. Thus, multimodal learning media can become a strategic foundation for the renewal of a modern education system that is adaptive to technological developments and the learning needs of students.

Abstract

Customary land conflicts in Indonesia reflect complex interactions among indigenous communities, the state, and economic actors, and offer meaningful learning opportunities for Social Studies Education. This study aims to analyze customary land conflicts as a source of social learning, legal awareness, and local wisdom-based education, and to develop a contextual Social Studies learning model. The research employed a qualitative approach using a single-case study design conducted in Kenagarian Kepala Hilalang, West Sumatra. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis involving traditional leaders, local communities, and village officials. The findings reveal that customary land conflicts reflect real social dynamics marked by power imbalances, legal pluralism, and struggles for justice. Conflict experiences encourage reflective legal awareness, collective solidarity, and a deeper understanding of rights among indigenous communities. Minangkabau local wisdom, particularly deliberation, mutual cooperation, and restorative justice, plays a significant role in peaceful conflict resolution and in the transmission of values. Based on these findings, a conflict-based Social Studies learning model was formulated through stages of issue identification, actor analysis, value discussion, reflection, and social attitude formation to enhance students’ critical thinking, legal literacy, and civic responsibility.

Abstract

One of the miracles of the Quran is believed to influence the human’s mental health, particularly to those who can memorize it.  The Huffazh (Quranic Tahfidz) has been discussed in many verses, but only recently that scientific investigation gauged this issue, resulted in tremendous efforts to implant it among Muslim communities.  The current study seeks to uncover the contribution of Quranic Tahfidz to mental health.  Eight hundred and twenty- eight students studying Islamic Studies in the Faculty of Islamic Education and Teacher Training were interviewed, observed, and given questionnaires to find out their level of tahfidz and mental health.  The findings revealed among other things that 62.5 percents of the respondents were the huffadz for 1 to 5 juz.  The huffazh in 6 to 10 juz constituted 7.5 percents, and there were only 10 huffazhs who memorized up to 10 juz.

Abstract

The success of higher education institutions can be seen from several indicators. One of the indicators is the institutions that can produce outputs and outcomes with the competence in relation to the needs of society. The graduates’ academic achievement can be described through their grade point average (GPA). There were 79 graduates who got Cum Laude predicate at the Department of Islamic Studies, IAIN Imam Bonjol Padang in the 1st Period of graduation which was held on August to September and in the 2nd period on March, from the academic year of 2011 to 2015. The lowest GPA was 3.50 while the highest GPA was 3.93. The graduates who got Cum Laude have worked in several fields of jobs; such as Islamic Religion teachers, staffs in government offices, banks, and political parties both in West Sumatra and out of Sumatra. The study showed that there is no significant contribution of GPA with their career. It implied that GPA will not determine the graduate career either as a teacher on Islamic studies or as a teacher on social science and civics education. It also found that the graduates who work in out of field of studies were caused by the demand of the schools because of lack of teachers.

Abstract

The Covid-19 epidemic has altered social and physical segregation policies in the field of schooling. Due to this restriction, learning is now done online instead of in person. Teachers also lost their true authority in the classroom as a result of this evolving learning practice. This study employed a qualitative research methodology. Interviews and observation are used to acquire data. The method of data analysis makes use of the theory. Interviews and observation are used to acquire data. The method of data analysis relies on Miles and Huberman's theory, which calls for gathering, reducing, and presenting data. This study demonstrates that throughout the pandemic, teachers have lost their influence over online learning. Following up on this research will need to assess how prepared teachers are to deal with shifts from traditional offline to online learning environments
