Abstract

This study aims to gain a deeper understanding of the implementation of academic supervision using the TIRTA coaching model in improving teacher professionalism at UPT SMP Negeri 29 Gresik and UPT SMP Negeri 33 Gresik. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, which focuses on collecting data obtained through observation, interviews, and document analysis. This study was conducted in January 2025, where teachers had planned their annual performance in the GTK (Portal Merdeka Mengajar) room. School supervisors and subject teachers acted as resource persons in this study. The results of the study indicate that academic supervision using the TIRTA model improves teachers' abilities in planning, implementing, and evaluating learning. The supervision process consists of three main stages, namely pre-observation, observation, and post-observation, each of which makes a significant contribution to improving the quality of learning. During the supervision process, school supervisors use a coaching approach that builds trust, provides constructive feedback, and supports teacher professional development. This study reveals several challenges in implementing supervision, such as the lack of experience of school principals in using the supervision model and teacher awareness of the importance of academic supervision. In conclusion, this study shows that the implementation of academic supervision of the TIRTA flow can bring positive changes in the quality of learning in schools, as well as improve working relationships between principals, supervisors, and teachers.  Keywords: Academic Supervision, Coaching, Teacher Professionalism, Tirta Flow

Abstract

Challenges facing higher education in photography remain the perennial difficulty of ensuring that the students deeply understand the technical and aesthetic concepts. Prior studies have found that many students still do not grasp the ideas of lighting techniques, composition, and camera operation. The problems directly affect the quality of their photographic products. An innovative learning medium that is highly visually attractive and can actively engage students in the learning process is required to rectify this situation. This study, therefore, designs an interactive multimedia-based instructional medium whose development is integrated with a Project-Based Learning (PjBL) approach to improve photography education at the higher education level. The model used for development is the Lee & Owens model, consisting of five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The choice of this model was based on its relevance to multimedia development, which highlights structured content and real-world outcomes. The developed media underwent validation by media experts and content experts and through individual checks in small groups and field testing. Results of the validation placed it at very good and feasible for use, affirming the proposition that integrating interactive multimedia and PjBL effectively supports photography learning, increases student engagement, and produces meaningful and contextual educational experiences.

Abstract

Character development and the cultivation of student responsibility are fundamental aspects of education. However, disciplinary practices in schools are still frequently implemented through punitive approaches that offer little opportunity for students to grow through self-awareness. This study aims to examine the implementation of positive discipline in fostering student responsibility at SMA Negeri 1 Kedamean and SMA Negeri 1 Manyar, two public senior high schools in Gresik Regency that have begun adopting more reflective and humanistic approaches to student development. This research employed a qualitative multi-site descriptive design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis. The findings reveal that the implementation of positive discipline through the restitution triangle model and the use of positive reinforcement strategies has effectively developed students’ intrinsic awareness and sense of responsibility. These approaches have shaped students’ adherence to school rules and improved their social relationships. The study also indicates that positive discipline can be applied flexibly in accordance with the specific cultural and contextual characteristics of each school, and it serves as a meaningful and educative alternative to punitive character education. The different approaches used by each school reflect their adaptation to their respective cultural environments. Based on the results, this study recommends the need for teacher training, parental engagement, and the development of school-wide policies rooted in non-punitive disciplinary frameworks.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the post-COVID-19 pandemic phenomenon, which revealed that early childhood children experienced challenges and delays in developing communication skills. Communication skills need to be fostered from an early age. This study aims to describe the use of drawing and storytelling activities as a strategy to stimulate oral communication skills among 5–6-year-old children in Group B of TK Al Hikmah Surabaya. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the research involved 20 children as subjects over a period of two months. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Observations were conducted during the drawing and storytelling activities, focusing on visible behaviors and the storytelling processes carried out by the children. Interviews were conducted with teachers and parents to explore perceived developments in the children's communication skills. The results showed that free drawing and storytelling activities increased the frequency of children's speech, enriched their vocabulary, improved sentence structure, and fostered their confidence in expressing ideas orally. The study concludes that this visual-verbal strategy is highly effective in supporting early childhood communication development and is suitable for integration into character-based Islamic education. Drawing and storytelling activities are strongly recommended as a regular approach in early childhood education. This approach should be integrated into curricula that emphasize character formation and holistic language development.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the lack of relevant and applicable approaches in developing graphic media that hinder the competitiveness of global higher education. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the doing knowledge learning model in improving the quality of lectures in the international class pilot of the Education Technology Study Program which has been internationally accredited. This type of research is experimental research that uses a quantitative approach with a non-equivalent pretest and posttest control group design method. The research subjects were 70 students. Data collection techniques were carried out by observation, interviews and questionnaires. The analysis method used includes quantitative descriptive analysis using t-test with a focus on project achievement as the main indicator of the success of the learning model. The results showed a significant difference between the experimental group and the control group. The average post-test of the experimental group reached 84.50, while the control group only reached 69.88, with a difference of 17.625 points. Thus, the results indicate that the doing knowledge model is effective in supporting project-based learning. The implication of this research is that it can increase the understanding of the implementation of the doing knowledge learning model to increase students' participation, concept understanding and critical thinking skills in international classes. Thus this study recommends the application of the doing knowladge model in media production-based courses and further development to increase the relevance of learning in the era of globalization of education.
