Abstract

The present work aims to study the effect of pineapple fruit extracts on the quality of Chemical and microbiological - rabbitfish sauce products. Utilizing pineapple extract can speed up the fermentation process because pineapple extract contains bromelain enzymes that will break down rabbitfish’s protein, carbohydrate, and fat molecules into simpler molecules. The research method applied involved experimental laboratory procedures. This study used a completely randomized design. The variables observed were protein, water content, acidity (pH), total microbe, total lactic acid bacteria, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus, and taste values. The pineapple extracts and fermentation length affected sauce product quality significantly. Pineapple extracts of 15% and 12-day fermentations produced the best sauce quality, consisting of 14.18% protein content, 73.55% moisture content, and a pH of 5.26. Besides, other parameters observed were total microbes 7.8 x 104 CFU/g, total lactic acid bacteria 1, 0 x 102 CFU/g, E. coli, and Staphylococcus sp. (negative), taste value was 3.46, but consumers did not like it so much. However, these results have met the Indonesian National Standards for the product and are safe for human consumption.

Abstract

This study aims to describe aspects of the reproductive biology of a blue swimming crab (Portunus pelagicus) that landed at the southern end of the coast of East Lombok during the period November 2023 to April 2024. The study used a descriptive design with a quantitative approach to measure and analyze data through direct observation. Data included carapace width, body weight, gonad maturity stages, and gonad somatic index (GSI) of P.pelagicus. The results showed that the male P.pelagicus population was more dominant than females every month. P.pelagicus body weight varied, with significant increases in certain months caused by spawning. Analysis of the relationship between carapace width and body weight showed positive allometric growth, with b values of 3.17 for males and 3.10 for females, indicating that body weight gain was faster than carapace width. The maturity stages of the P.pelagicus gonads were mostly at stages I and II, with a few reaching stages III and IV. The average gonad maturity stages increased from 2.42% in November to a peak of 5,83 % in February, then decreased in the following months. The primary spawning time occurs from December to February, characterized by changes in gonad color and a decrease in the body weight of the P. pelagicus after spawning. Hopefully, this study’s results can positively contribute to the sustainable management of crabs (P. pelagicus).

Abstract

This study explores the persistence of Budi Daya Faith as a form of New Religious Movement (NRM) in Lembang Subdistrict, West Bandung Regency, Indonesia. Using a qualitative ethnographic approach through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation over two years, the research examines how followers of Budi Daya maintain a coherent spiritual system across five dimensions of religiosity: belief in Hyang Tunggal as the Supreme Divine, symbolic ritual practices, oral transmission of sacred knowledge, personal spiritual experience, and ethical consequences in daily life. Despite facing marginalization and state regulatory limitations, the community survives by adapting its doctrine, preserving cultural expressions, and cultivating harmony with nature and society. This study concludes that Budi Daya Faith is not merely an ancestral tradition but a legitimate form of religious identity. It offers valuable insights into religious pluralism, the dynamics of indigenous belief systems, and the urgency of recognizing spiritual expressions outside of state-defined religions.

Abstract

This research is based on the initial concept of Buddhist teachings, which emphasize overcoming suffering. However, as time went on, some Buddhist practices were deemed not to have fully reduced suffering and social problems, giving rise to the Humanistic Buddhism movement. The purpose of this study is to examine the humanistic values in Buddhist teachings practiced by the Indonesian Tzu Chi Buddhist Foundation and to examine the strategies employed to develop and preserve these values. This research employed qualitative methods with sociological and phenomenological approaches. Data were collected from primary and secondary sources, including the Tipiṭaka/Tripṭaka, Sūtra Mahāyāna, books, magazines, online media, as well as observation, documentation, and interviews. Interviews were conducted with leaders, volunteers, and beneficiaries of the Tzu Chi Foundation in West Jakarta using the snowball technique. Data were analyzed using the Miles-Huberman and Saldana techniques, while their validity was tested by triangulation and extended research time. The results of the study indicate that the humanist values contained in the teachings of Buddha and Master Cheng Yen include equality, love, compassion, altruism, tolerance, brotherhood, wisdom, concern for nature, generosity, morality, patience, sincerity, gratitude and open-mindedness. These values are implemented in four missions and eight Dharma footprints, namely charitable missions, health, education, humanist culture, international disaster relief, bone marrow donation, environmental conservation, and community volunteer involvement. This study concludes that the development and preservation of humanist values in Tzu Chi is carried out through resource mobilization, utilization of political opportunities, and framing processes, so that Tzu Chi can be understood as a unique Buddhist social religious movement that is also reformist in nature.
