Abstract

Globalization has brought significant changes to education systems worldwide. Islamic education faces the challenge of adapting to developments in science, technology, and global social dynamics while maintaining its intellectual identity. This study aims to analyze the challenges faced by Islamic education in the era of globalization, examine institutional responses, and identify curriculum transformation strategies in Indonesia. This research employs a qualitative approach using a literature review method, examining academic sources published between 2020 and 2025. Data were analyzed using descriptive and thematic analysis. This study contributes by proposing an integrative framework that balances curriculum transformation, digital literacy, institutional governance, and Islamic intellectual identity preservation. The findings indicate that globalization encourages curriculum transformation through the integration of religious and general sciences, digital literacy strengthening, and adaptive learning models. However, challenges include the potential knowledge dichotomy, limited digital infrastructure, and the risk of weakening Islamic intellectual identity. Theoretical implications suggest that Islamic education requires strong epistemological foundations rooted in Islamic values to avoid marginalization of traditional scholarship. Practical implications indicate that educational institutions need comprehensive strategies integrating technological innovation with value preservation. Limitations: This study is limited to literature published between 2020 and 2025 within the Indonesian context. Future research should conduct empirical studies across diverse institutional contexts. An integrative approach balancing innovation, technology, and Islamic values is necessary to ensure Islamic education remains relevant and competitive globally.

Abstract

Globalization has significantly influenced cultural interactions and educational systems, creating both challenges and opportunities for the preservation of local cultural identities. In Southeast Asia, Malay Islamic identity represents a unique synthesis between Islamic religious values and Malay cultural traditions that has developed through historical processes of cultural interaction. The rapid expansion of globalization, including technological advancement, cultural exchange, and educational modernization, has raised important questions about the sustainability of this identity in contemporary society. This study aims to analyze how Islamic educational institutions respond to the integration of Malay Islamic identity in the era of globalization. This research employs a qualitative literature review method by examining academic publications published between 2020 and 2025. Data were collected through Google Scholar using keywords related to Islamic education, globalization, and Malay Islamic identity. The selected literature was analyzed using thematic analysis to identify major patterns, conceptual frameworks, and scholarly debates related to the role of Islamic educational institutions in preserving cultural identity. The findings indicate that Islamic educational institutions play a significant role in maintaining Malay Islamic identity through several strategies, including the integration of local wisdom in educational curricula, the adaptation of traditional learning systems to modern educational approaches, and the reinforcement of religious and cultural values within institutional practices. Furthermore, the study shows that globalization does not necessarily lead to the erosion of local identity but may encourage cultural adaptation and identity negotiation that allow Malay Islamic traditions to remain relevant in the global era.

Abstract

This study examines the structure and dynamics of transnational Islamic education networks in Southeast Asia through a qualitative literature review and a Social Network Analysis (SNA) perspective. Synthesizing 45 relevant peer-reviewed articles drawn from scholarly works published between 2020 and 2025, the research explores how traditional institutions such as pesantren and madrasah interact with modern educational systems and global networks. The findings reveal that Islamic education in the region is characterized by a hybrid structure, integrating localized religious traditions with transnational knowledge flows, particularly through connections with the Middle East and other Muslim-majority regions. Key actors, including ulama, educational institutions, and state agencies, play crucial roles in facilitating collaboration, curriculum transformation, and knowledge dissemination across borders. Furthermore, the study highlights the impact of globalization and digitalization in expanding access to Islamic knowledge while simultaneously introducing challenges related to institutional autonomy and resource disparities. By mapping these relationships conceptually, this research contributes to a deeper understanding of how Islamic education networks evolve within a globalized context. It also provides insights into policy development and institutional strategies to strengthen collaboration, promote moderation, and enhance the global competitiveness of Islamic education in Southeast Asia.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technologies has fundamentally transformed educational practices, particularly in Islamic Religious Education (PAI), where technology integration must balance pedagogical innovation with moral and spiritual values. This study explores digital transformation in PAI learning by reviewing and synthesizing relevant scholarly literature published between 2020 and 2025. Drawing on peer-reviewed journal articles, conference proceedings, and academic publications sourced from Google Scholar and nationally accredited journals, the review focuses on themes of digital pedagogy, teacher competence, ethical considerations, and the application of the TPACK framework in value-based education. The synthesis highlights three key dimensions: (1) opportunities, where technology enhances learning accessibility, student engagement, and instructional personalization through interactive media and digital platforms; (2) challenges, including infrastructural limitations, varying levels of teacher digital competence, and ethical concerns regarding content authenticity and data privacy in religious contexts; and (3) strategic solutions, emphasizing continuous TPACK-based professional development, the creation of religiously aligned digital content, and supportive institutional policies. This review contributes a conceptual understanding of how digital transformation can be sustainably integrated into PAI, underscoring that successful implementation requires holistic alignment of technology, pedagogical competence, ethical governance, and systemic support. The findings offer practical recommendations for educators

Abstract

The digital era has significantly influenced the dissemination and filtering of religious information. This study aims to analyze students' social-emotional literacy in filtering religious information in the digital era. This type of research is descriptive quantitative. The research instrument consisted of 22 statements based on indicators of self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision-making, relationship skills, and social awareness. Respondents in this study were 179 students at the Islamic College of Palembang. All data obtained were analyzed using percentages. The research results indicate that students have a strong ability to filter religious information, particularly in self-management and decision-making. However, obstacles remain, including limited digital literacy, digital environmental disruption, and a lack of guidance in providing information. This research emphasizes the importance of strengthening socio-emotional literacy through education and a supportive learning environment to enable students to think critically, verify information accurately, and adopt a wise and tolerant approach to the flow of religious information in the digital era.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of motivation, personality, and social environment on the religious awareness of students residing in the dormitory of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Lahat Regency. This study employed a quantitative approach using a correlational research design with a cross-sectional survey. The population consisted of 220 dormitory students, and 110 respondents were selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using structured Likert-scale questionnaires and supported by documentation. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, partial hypothesis testing (t-test), and simultaneous hypothesis testing (F-test) at a 5% significance level. The findings reveal that motivation has a positive and significant effect on students’ religious awareness (t = 3.25; p = 0.002), indicating that stronger learning and spiritual motivation contributes to higher religious awareness. Personality also has a significant effect (t = 2.80; p = 0.007), suggesting that disciplined and responsible students demonstrate better religious awareness. Likewise, the social environment significantly influences religious awareness (t = 2.10; p = 0.040), highlighting the importance of a supportive dormitory climate, peer interaction, and teacher supervision. Simultaneously, motivation, personality, and social environment significantly affect religious awareness (F = 15.30; p = 0.000), explaining 62% of the variance, while the remaining 38% is attributed to factors beyond the scope of this study. These findings provide practical implications for dormitory supervisors, Islamic education teachers, and school leaders in strengthening students’ religious awareness through integrated motivational, character-building, and supportive environmental programs.

Abstract

Learning difficulties in Islamic Religious Education can restrict students’ access to Arabic-script materials, reduce classroom participation, and affect their confidence. This study aimed to examine the forms, perceived contributing factors, and consequences of these difficulties, as well as the instructional support provided by teachers. A qualitative descriptive design was employed involving 22 participants from 11 public elementary schools in Kemuning District, Palembang, Indonesia: 11 fifth-grade students experiencing persistent difficulties in Islamic Religious Education and 11 certified teachers. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, teacher learning notes, student reflections, and relevant academic documents, and were analyzed using Braun and Clarke’s six-phase thematic analysis. Five themes were identified: Arabic literacy as a gateway barrier, mismatch between students’ processing pace and classroom demands, emotional and social consequences of repeated difficulty, limited support outside school, and adaptive teacher support. Students reported difficulties recognizing and writing Hijaiyah letters, retaining memorized material, completing tasks at the expected pace, and participating confidently in class. Teachers responded through individualized guidance, chunking, slower instructional pacing, auditory and narrative supports, repetition, and positive reinforcement, which participants perceived as helpful. The findings indicate that learning difficulties in Islamic Religious Education are shaped by the interaction of linguistic, cognitive, emotional, instructional, and environmental conditions. Inclusive practice therefore requires gradual instructional sequencing, emotionally safe classrooms, and stronger collaboration between schools and families.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the deep learning policy as a new approach in transforming the educational paradigm. The method used is a literature review that explores the definition, objectives, framework, and practical implementation of deep learning in the context of education. The results of the discussion indicate that in the world of education, deep learning is an approach that emphasizes genuine conceptual understanding, rather than mere memorization, in order to develop students' critical and creative thinking skills. The main focus of this approach encompasses three aspects: mindful learning, meaningful learning, and joyful learning. The implementation of this policy requires synergy between active pedagogical practices, inclusive learning environments, utilization of digital technology, and strong partnerships among schools, parents, and the community. The conclusion of this paper affirms that deep learning serves as an important foundation for shaping a generation with strong character, such as honesty and empathy, as well as competencies that are relevant in facing future global challenges.

Abstract

Low levels of creativity among children constitute a challenge in early childhood education at PAUD KB Cahaya Hati in Burnai Jaya Village. This study aimed to determine the effect of "blow painting" activities on the creativity of early childhood students in Group B. A quantitative approach was employed using a pre-experimental method and a one-group pretest-posttest design. The study sample consisted of 12 children. Data were collected through observation, tests, and documentation, and subsequently analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity tests, and a paired-sample t-test. The results showed that the average creativity score increased from 21.92 in the pretest to 25.75 in the posttest—an increase of 3.83 points, or approximately 17.5% of the initial score. The t-test results yielded a calculated t-value of 11.069, which exceeded the t-table value of 2.228, with a significance level of 0.001 (p < 0.05). Thus, there was a significant difference in children's creativity before and after the implementation of the blow painting activity. These findings indicate that blow painting can serve as an effective learning activity to support the development of creativity in early childhood.
