Abstract

This article examines the sociology of Madrasah Aliyah students' choices of further study by highlighting the influence of religious aspirations, family capital, and future imagination. The decision to continue education is not only based on academic considerations but is also influenced by social, cultural, and religious factors. This research uses an educational aspiration study approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results show that parents and teachers, peers, as well as religious figures play a significant role in shaping students' decisions regarding the college and study program they choose. Families with higher economic capital and educational attainment tend to provide broader access to information, thus providing stronger guidance in the decision-making process. On the other hand, religious aspirations encourage students to choose fields of study that are considered aligned with Islamic values. The choice of further study is also influenced by students' imaginations about the future, such as the desire to become a teacher, lecturer, or work in the formal sector. This article confirms that Madrasah Aliyah students' choices of further study are the result of the interaction between religious values, family capital, the prestige of the study program, and future orientation. These findings are important for the development of career guidance services in Islamic educational institutions.

Abstract

This study discusses the practice of morning prayer as a form of lived religion within the school culture of a public elementary school. Morning prayer is understood not only as a formal religious activity, but also as a daily ritual that shapes students’ emotional experiences, religious habits, and social interactions. This study aims to explain the empirical practice of morning prayer, the social relationships formed through it, and its implications for religious education and school culture. The research employs a qualitative approach using school ethnography methods. Data were collected through observations, interviews with the principal, Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers, classroom teachers, and students, as well as documentation of the school’s religious activities. The findings show that students participate in morning prayer routinely every day before lessons begin, followed by the collective recitation of short surahs from Juz 30. The daily practice of morning prayer gradually becomes a habit for students in starting their learning activities, both at school and at home. Teachers perceive morning prayer as an opening activity for learning, as well as a means of fostering emotional calmness, discipline, and students’ religious character. Students also reported feeling calmer, happier, and more prepared to learn after praying. In addition, the presence of Juz Amma books, Asmaul Husna texts, the school prayer room (mushola), and the habituation of congregational dhuha prayer indicate the institutionalization of a religious culture within the school, even though these practices are not yet fully included in the official schedule. The findings indicate that morning prayer has become part of students’ daily school experience. Through routine collective prayer activities, students gradually develop emotional readiness, discipline, and religious habits before learning begins.

Abstract

This qualitative study aims to analyze the leadership transformation of the principal of MA Salafiyah Bantarsari in improving educational quality in the digital era through Pierre Bourdieu’s concepts of habitus and field. The study employed a case study approach, with data collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings reveal that leadership transformation is carried out through strengthening organizational culture, utilizing educational technology, and developing teachers’ digital competencies. The principal’s leadership habitus is shaped by leadership experience, organizational culture, and perceptions of digital technology, which influence leadership strategies in responding to educational changes. Furthermore, the principal successfully utilizes various forms of capital, including cultural capital through mastery of educational technology, social capital through collaboration with external institutions, economic capital through the provision of digital facilities, and symbolic capital through community trust in the madrasa. Transformational leadership practices are implemented through the use of the E-Masba application, Learning Management Systems (LMS), digital learning media, technology training for teachers, and the strengthening of digital culture in both learning and educational administration. This study confirms that leadership transformation plays a significant role in enhancing educational service effectiveness, teachers’ digital competencies, and overall educational quality in the digital era.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis implementasi Program Bina Pribadi Islam (BPI) dalam membentuk karakter disiplin siswa di SMK Muhammadiyah 3 Purwokerto menggunakan  pendekatan kontrol sosial informal. Latar belakang penelitian didasarkan pada pentingnya pembentukan karakter disiplin siswa SMK di tengah tantangan perkembangan remaja, pengaruh lingkungan pergaulan, penggunaan media sosial, serta rendahnya efektivitas pendekatan disiplin yang hanya berorientasi pada aturan informal dan hukuman. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Data diperoleh melalui observasi, wawancara mendalam dengan kepala sekolah, koordinator program BPI, guru mentor, dan siswa, serta dokumentasi kegiatan sekolah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Program BPI membentuk karakter disiplin siswa melalui tiga pola utama. Pertama, keteladanan guru dan mentor BPI menjadi pola kontrol sosial informal berlandaskan kewibawaan moral mendorong siswa meniru perilaku disiplin dalam ibadah, sikap, dan tanggung jawab sehari-hari. Kedua, sistem mentoring menciptakan pengawasan kolektif antar siswa melalui saling mengingatkan, memotivasi, dan membantu dalam kegiatan ibadah maupun BTQ. Ketiga, pembiasaan positif melalui kegiatan rutin seperti sholat berjamaah, tadarus, BTQ, penggunaan buku mutaba’ah, serta pemberian apresiasi kepada siswa aktif berfungsi sebagai penguat positif dalam membangun sikap disiplin secara bertahap. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa pendekatan kontrol sosial informal dalam Program BPI lebih berperan dalam membangun kesadaran disiplin siswa dibandingkan pendekatan hukuman formal karena lebih menekankan pembiasaan, keteladanan, pendekatan humanis, serta keterlibatan aktif guru dan teman sebaya dalam proses pembentukan karakter siswa. Lebih lanjut, program ini juga mampu menciptakan suasana religius di lingkungan sekolah yang mendukung proses pembentukan perilaku disiplin siswa secara berkelanjutan.

Abstract

This study examines the leadership strategies employed by a kiai in fostering student discipline at Jogonegoro Islamic Boarding School (Pondok Pesantren Jogonegoro). Using a qualitative field research approach, data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with the kiai, boarding school administrators, and students (santri), as well as documentation analysis. The findings reveal three primary leadership strategies: (1) direct role modeling (uswah hasanah) through the kiai’s consistent presence in leading congregational prayers and religious study sessions; (2) the internalization of disciplinary values through verbal guidance delivered in religious gatherings, where discipline is framed as a spiritual obligation and an essential aspect of the ethics of seeking knowledge; and (3) a gradual mentoring system implemented by administrators through dialogue, warnings, and reporting serious violations to the kiai. The study further finds that students initially comply with regulations out of fear of punishment (ta'zir), but gradually develop voluntary obedience driven by respect and reverence for the kiai’s authority. Nevertheless, challenges remain, particularly in maintaining consistent discipline in daily routines such as the dawn (Fajr) prayer, where physical fatigue and demanding schedules tend to reduce compliance. This study contributes to the sociology of Islamic education by highlighting how charismatic religious authority, when combined with systematic structural supervision, produces a distinctive model of discipline formation within the pesantren environment.

Abstract

Pergaulan lintas gender di SMP Islam berada di antara nilai moral keagamaan dan kebutuhan sosial remaja. Penelitian ini bertujuan memetakan praktik pergaulan lintas gender di SMP Ma'arif NU 1 Purwokerto, menjelaskan relasi sosial dalam pembentukan batas moral dan pengawasan sekolah, serta menilai implikasinya terhadap pendidikan karakter. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Informan meliputi guru PAI, guru BK, wali kelas, siswa, dan orang tua. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan sekolah menerapkan pembatasan interaksi melalui pengaturan tempat duduk, pengelompokan kegiatan belajar, serta pengawasan ketat guru. Namun, siswa melakukan negosiasi tersembunyi dengan memanfaatkan ruang dan momen pengawasan longgar. Sekolah menjalin kerjasama dengan orang tua melalui pertemuan rutin setiap tiga bulan. Tantangan terbesar adalah penggunaan ponsel di era digital, yang direspon dengan larangan membawa ponsel tanpa izin. Solusi yang dilakukan adalah penguatan karakter religius melalui sholat Dhuha dan pembacaan Asmaul Husna. Penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa pergaulan lintas gender merupakan proses sosial kompleks yang melibatkan ketegangan antara aturan moral sekolah, kebutuhan sosial remaja, dan negosiasi identitas siswa.

Abstract

Abstract: This study examines how transformational leadership practiced by female leaders can enhance teacher performance and loyalty at the Integrated Islamic Elementary School (SDIT) Cita Mulia Ajibarang. This issue is important to explore because the increasing presence of women in strategic positions within Islamic educational institutions is not always accompanied by a comprehensive understanding of the effectiveness of their leadership styles. Teacher performance and loyalty in many schools are often hindered by weak communication, limited appreciation, and the lack of teacher involvement in decision-making. Therefore, a leadership style that is participatory, inspirational, and grounded in Islamic values is needed to create a harmonious work culture. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The study revealed three major findings: (1) the moral and spiritual exemplary behavior of female leaders fosters a collaborative culture and strengthens teacher trust; (2) empowerment through consultation and active participation enhances professional commitment; and (3) the integration of Islamic values such as amanah (trustworthiness), musyawarah (consultation), and rahmah (compassion) serves as an ethical foundation that nurtures teachers’ emotional loyalty toward the institution. Transformational leadership practiced by women not only improves the quality of teacher performance but also cultivates a humanistic and sustainable Islamic organizational culture. These findings contribute theoretically by expanding transformational leadership theory within the context of Islamic education and offer practical recommendations for madrasahs to adopt leadership models rooted in spirituality, exemplary conduct, and empowerment. Abstract

Artikel ini menganalisis kekerasan simbolik dalam interaksi guru dan siswa pada SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Purwokerto dengan pendekatan kualitatif studi kasus. Fokus kajian diarahkan pada tiga hal, yaitu label yang berpotensi merendahkan siswa, otoritas guru dalam relasi keseharian, dan praktik disiplin yang dapat menutup atau membuka ruang dialog. Berdasarkan wawancara dua siswa kelas 8B, wawancara guru BK, hasil angket, serta observasi kelas, temuan menunjukkan bahwa praktik kekerasan simbolik tidak tampak dominan; komunikasi guru cenderung sopan, peraturan dirasa adil, dan siswa merasa bebas berpendapat. Meski demikian, masih muncul indikasi simbolik yang halus, misalnya koreksi atas pakaian yang ketat, komentar yang sinis, dan pembandingan antarsiswa pada situasi tertentu. Hasil ini sejalan dengan literatur mutakhir bahwa hubungan guru–siswa yang kuat, komunikasi yang empatik, dan disiplin berbasis nilai cenderung memperkuat rasa aman serta partisipasi siswa, sedangkan komunikasi kontrol yang keras dapat melemahkan agensi siswa.

Abstract

Manajemen keuangan pada lembaga pendidikan Islam menjadi aspek penting dalam menjaga keberlangsungan operasional dan membangun hubungan sosial yang baik antara pengelola lembaga dan wali santri. Dalam perspektif sosiologi, pengelolaan administrasi keuangan tidak hanya berkaitan dengan pencatatan dana, tetapi juga menyangkut transparansi, akuntabilitas, dan pembentukan kepercayaan sosial. Permasalahan muncul ketika pengelolaan administrasi masih dilakukan secara manual sehingga berpotensi menimbulkan keterlambatan informasi, kurang efektifnya pelaporan, dan terbatasnya pengawasan keuangan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan sistem pengelolaan keuangan, bentuk transparansi administrasi, dan pengaruhnya terhadap kepercayaan wali santri di Pondok Pesantren Nururrohman Sirau Kemranjen Banyumas. Penelitian menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus sosiologis. Data diperoleh melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi terhadap pengurus pondok terkait pengelolaan administrasi keuangan, pembayaran santri, pelaporan iuran, dan komunikasi dengan wali santri. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengelolaan keuangan di pondok masih dilakukan secara manual melalui pencatatan pembayaran, laporan iuran, dan komunikasi langsung dengan wali santri. Sistem administrasi dilakukan melalui pembayaran transfer maupun penyerahan langsung kepada pengurus. Transparansi informasi biaya pendidikan, kebutuhan santri, dan kegiatan pondok mampu meningkatkan kepercayaan wali santri terhadap lembaga. Selain itu, pondok juga memiliki beberapa unit usaha seperti nururrohman mart, laundry, jasa cukur, dan pertanian yang membantu kebutuhan operasional lembaga. Namun, pengurus masih menghadapi berbagai tantangan, seperti keterbatasan sumber daya manusia, belum optimalnya digitalisasi administrasi, keterlambatan pembayaran wali santri, dan sistem pelaporan keuangan yang masih sederhana. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi teoretis bagi kajian sosiologi manajemen pendidikan Islam serta kontribusi praktis dalam pengembangan sistem administrasi keuangan yang lebih transparan, akuntabel, dan profesional guna meningkatkan mutu lembaga pendidikan Islam.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the marketing mix strategy and its contribution to the competitiveness of educational institutions at SMK Ma’arif NU 1 Ajibarang. The research employed a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving key informants, including school leaders, teachers, and students’ parents. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model, which consists of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing.The results show that the implementation of the marketing mix strategy at SMK Ma’arif NU 1 Ajibarang encompasses seven elements (7Ps), namely product, price, place, promotion, process, physical evidence, and human resources. The product aspect is reflected in the diversity of study programs, extracurricular activities, the BTA program, the culture of Qur’anic recitation, and the role of alumni. The price aspect is demonstrated through the provision of scholarships and affordable education costs. The place aspect is supported by the school’s strategic location. Promotion is carried out through direct socialization, the kirka system, and support from the Nahdlatul Ulama community. The process aspect is realized through close engagement with the community and the implementation of student discipline, while physical evidence and human resources are supported by adequate facilities and infrastructure as well as teacher development programs.These marketing strategies contribute to strengthening the institution’s image, increasing public interest, building trust and loyalty among parents, creating differentiation and competitive advantage, and encouraging stability as well as growth in student enrollment...
