Abstract

The purpose of this research is to develop an E-learning-based learning media assisted by chamilo that can be used in teaching 12th grade high school students in odd semesters, especially in physics subjects, with the aim of delivering material and assignments in a structured manner. This research was conducted using the Research and Development (R&D) method and the Dick and Carey model. This journal discusses the results of the validation stage of the developed media. Data validation results were obtained from assessments by material physics experts, media experts, and learning experts. The validation results show positive results in these three aspects. The material aspect shows that the content presented is relevant and in accordance with the learning objectives. The media aspect shows the design and use of attractive and interactive media. Meanwhile, the learning aspect shows an efficient and interesting learning experience for students. The e-Learning product that has been developed can be a viable tool for educators in delivering material more efficiently and helping students achieve a better understanding in physics subjects. With good validation results, e-learning using Chamilo can be used as an effective and efficient learning medium to support the teaching and learning process, provide flexibility for students in accessing material, increase interaction with content, and increase efficiency in achieving learning goals.

Abstract

This article aims to present the results of an analysis of the needs of local wisdom-based e-module teaching materials related to ethnoscience in South Sumatera. The data in this article were collected by distributing a questionnaire with the help of a Google form which was filled in by 35 science teachers and 69 students in grades VIII and IX at SMPN 1 Madang Suku I, even semester of the 2022/2023 school year, and then analyzed using descriptive analysis. The objects of study in this article include the suitability of KI and KD, the teaching materials used by teachers, and the needs of teachers and students for local wisdom-based e-modules related to ethnoscience in South Sumatera. The results of the study show that 100% of teachers use other handbooks and other teaching materials that are in accordance with KI and KD; 56.3% of teachers use special teaching materials other than books from schools to assist in understanding a material; 100% of teachers need e-module teaching materials based on local wisdom related to ethnoscience in South Sumatera which can be used to study material on liquid pressure; 23.2% of students have handbooks other than science books that are borrowed from the school; 92.8 Students look for other materials to help understand the science material; and 95.7% of students need e-module teaching materials based on local wisdom related to ethnoscience so that the subject matter is more interesting and easier to understand. Thus, it can be understood that e-module teaching materials based on local wisdom related to ethnoscience in South Sumatera are needed to make it easier for students to understand the material.

Abstract

This research aims to determine new technology used in science teaching and learning to support the implementation of the independent curriculum. The research method used is systematic literature review (SLR), namely researchers reviewing various journal articles that have been published from 2020-2023 via Google Scholar. From the research results, by following established research procedures, 7 journal articles were reviewed. From the results of the review, it was found that the technology that can be utilized in science teaching and learning is multimedia/video assisted learning; Learning with the help of digital games; Learning assisted by computer simulation; Comic-assisted learning; Learning using the Google Classroom platform; and Learning using Web 2.0. Meanwhile, the appropriate devices used in science teaching and learning to achieve predetermined learning objectives are Cell Phones/Android, PDAs, Tablets, Laptops, e-books, and iPods. To optimize the use of technology in science classes, teachers should use collaborative learning approaches, inquiry learning, project-based learning, problem-based learning, game-based learning, and flipped classroom learning. For game-assisted learning, teachers must create good learning scenarios and choose the right games according to learning objectives.

Abstract

Using quantitative descriptive methods in the form of critical thinking skills tests and concept mastery, this study intends to ascertain the profile of critical thinking skills and concept mastery of junior high school students on energy and its changes. The average score of students on the test was 36.60 out of 100. Students averaged 29.86 on the indication of providing a basic explanation, 29.79 on the indicator of drawing a conclusion, and 28.35 on the indicator of providing a more thorough explanation. Critical thinking abilities are among the things that all three lack. The concept mastery test scores for the cognitive domains of analyzing (C4) and evaluating (C5) were, on average, 35.72 and 34.62, respectively, placing the students in the intermediate range. The findings indicated that due to students' low literacy regarding energy and its changes, their inexperience with working on higher-level thinking questions, and their use of less varied learning methods, their critical thinking skills were in the poor category and their concept mastery was in the moderate category.

Abstract

Students often find the solar system challenging due to its abstract nature and vast spatial and temporal scales. Students are unable to directly observe phenomena such as planetary revolution or the internal structure of the sun in the classroom. This often leads to misconceptions or incomplete conceptual understanding. For example, many students still assume that planetary orbits are perfectly circular or misunderstand the causes of seasonal changes. This study aims to analyze the need to develop an e-comic as a conceptual change-based learning medium for seventh-grade students of Islamic Junior High Schools (MTs). Conceptual change is an important approach in science learning that helps students replace incorrect initial concepts with correct scientific concepts. Using a needs analysis method, 51 students responded to various questions posed to identify gaps in students' understanding of the solar system concept. Data were collected through observations, interviews with teachers, and student questionnaires. The results indicate that a conceptual change-based e-comic is highly needed as an alternative learning medium that can facilitate a more effective and enjoyable learning process. This research provides a strong basis for the development of e-comic media that is appropriate to the characteristics of grade VII MTs students in understanding solar system material.

Abstract

Strengthening science literacy in children is an important effort to develop critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills from an early age. This Community Service aims to foster science literacy skills and strengthen children's science literacy through simple STEM activities at the Taman Baca Masyarakat Karya Mulya (TBM). The subjects consisted of 30 children and 10 volunteers participating in the regular activities at TBM. The implementation method involved STEM activities designed as simple experiments such as balloon rockets, mini windmills, and basic electricity experiments that integrate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics concepts. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and brief interviews. The results show that simple STEM activities can enhance curiosity, the inquiry process, and understanding of basic science concepts in children. In addition, collaborative activities in STEM projects also encourage children's communication skills and confidence in expressing their opinions. Thus, simple STEM activities at TBM Karya Mulya have proven effective as a strategy for strengthening children's science literacy in a non-formal learning environment.

Abstract

Teaching wave phenomena and optics remains challenging due to their abstract and highly visual nature. Pre-service physics teachers often struggle to form accurate mental representations, which hinders conceptual understanding. This study examined the needs, learning challenges, and expectations of future physics educators regarding Python-based simulations for learning optical waves to support conceptual understanding through dynamic visualization, interactive parameter exploration, and multiple representations of wave phenomena. A convergent parallel mixed-methods design was employed, integrating course-task analysis and a needs-assessment form with classroom observations and semi-structured interviews involving 60 third-semester physics education students at a state university in Indonesia. The novelty of this study lies in its integration of students’ conceptual difficulties, technological readiness, and simulation expectations as a foundation for designing Python-based optical wave simulations tailored to physics teacher education. Quantitative findings showed that many students relied on procedural calculation without adequate conceptual explanation and experienced difficulties in interpreting interference and diffraction phenomena. Students strongly preferred dynamic visualizations and stepwise schematic explanations, while many also emphasized the importance of adjustable visual parameters and multiple representations in simulations. Qualitative findings highlighted expectations for slow-motion visualization, comparative parameter exploration, and introductory tutorial support. The study concludes that understanding students’ perspectives is critical to designing effective educational simulations that enhance conceptual understanding and improve learning of abstract optical wave concepts.
