Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the implementation of education and classroom management at IRA Private Junior High School in Medan based on observations made during the first teaching practice (PPL I). The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collected through non-participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation of learning tools and activities that take place in the classroom. The findings of this study indicate that the implementation of learning is in accordance with the principles of the Merdeka Curriculum, which is characterized by the preparation of learning tools such as Annual Programs, Semester Programs, and teaching modules, as well as the use of interactive methods such as group discussions, presentations, and exercises based on Student Worksheets. Classroom management was also carried out well, as demonstrated by flexible seating arrangements, efficient time management, enforcement of classroom rules, and positive interactions between teachers and students. However, there were several challenges, such as limited use of digital media, short learning time, large number of students in one class, and inconsistent implementation of formative assessment. Overall, teaching practices and classroom management at IRA Private Junior High School in Medan are quite good and support the creation of an ideal learning environment, but there is still room for improvement in terms of learning differentiation, the use of interactive media, and strengthening the evaluation of the learning process.

Abstract

This research examines how educational management, school facilities, and learning practices are carried out at MTS Swasta IRA Medan, an Islamic junior high school overseen by the Ministry of Religious Affairs. Conducted as part of the Field Experience Program (PLP I) for English Education students, this qualitative descriptive study utilized observations and interviews to review the institution’s managerial system, infrastructure, and instructional procedures. The findings indicate that the school has implemented management approaches consistent with national education standards and the framework of School-Based Management. Its facilities and infrastructure generally support teaching and learning, though enhancements in laboratory resources and digital learning tools remain necessary. The adoption of the Merdeka Curriculum has begun through structured lesson plans, differentiated instruction, and character education grounded in Islamic values. Overall, the study concludes that MTS Swasta IRA Medan shows a strong dedication to improving educational quality and integrating Islamic principles, even though improvements are still needed in teacher capacity-building and the use of learning technologies.

Abstract

This study investigates how English Education students experience and resolve Tip-of-the-Tongue (TOT) states during English word retrieval. The research uses a qualitative descriptive design to explore students’ natural responses and strategies when they temporarily cannot recall a word. Fifteen seventh-semester students from an English Education Department in Medan participated in individual observation sessions. The data were collected using a PowerPoint presentation containing twenty visual stimuli designed to trigger TOT moments and were analyzed through transcription, coding, and triangulation. The findings show that proper nouns were the most common triggers of TOT states, followed by uncommon concrete and abstract nouns. Five main types of retrieval strategies were identified, including phonological, semantic, gestural, interlingual, and associative strategies. Among them, phonological strategies were most frequently used, followed by semantic strategies, suggesting that learners rely heavily on sound and meaning cues to retrieve words. These results highlight how English learners manage lexical difficulties and show that TOT experiences can provide useful insight into mental lexicon functioning. The study also implies that raising awareness of retrieval strategies may help teachers design speaking and vocabulary activities that support faster word recall and reduce hesitation in communication.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis peran administrasi sekolah terhadap efektivitas layanan pendidikan di SMA Swasta Sinar Husni. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan jenis penelitian lapangan. Subjek penelitian meliputi kepala sekolah, tenaga administrasi, guru, dan siswa, yang dipilih melalui teknik purposive sampling. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, wawancara mendalam, dan dokumentasi. Analisis data menggunakan model interaktif yang meliputi reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan, sedangkan keabsahan data diuji melalui triangulasi sumber dan teknik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa administrasi sekolah memiliki peran signifikan dalam mendukung efektivitas layanan pendidikan. Administrasi akademik berkontribusi pada kelancaran proses pembelajaran dan pengelolaan nilai, administrasi kesiswaan berperan dalam pembinaan dan kedisiplinan siswa, serta administrasi sarana dan prasarana mendukung terciptanya lingkungan belajar yang kondusif. Secara keseluruhan, administrasi sekolah di SMA Swasta Sinar Husni telah berjalan cukup efektif, meskipun masih menghadapi kendala berupa keterbatasan sumber daya manusia dan pemanfaatan teknologi yang belum optimal. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa penguatan manajemen administrasi sekolah sangat diperlukan untuk meningkatkan efektivitas layanan pendidikan secara berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Pendidikan karakter merupakan salah satu fokus utama dalam sistem pendidikan nasional, yang bertujuan membentuk peserta didik tidak hanya cerdas secara akademik, tetapi juga berakhlak mulia dan berdisiplin. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan penerapan kedisiplinan siswa sebagai pendidikan karakter di lingkungan SMA Swasta Sinar Husni, menganalisis peran sekolah dalam menanamkan perilaku disiplin, serta mengidentifikasi implikasinya terhadap pembentukan karakter siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan jenis penelitian lapangan. Subjek penelitian meliputi kepala sekolah, guru, dan siswa yang dipilih secara purposive. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, wawancara mendalam, dan dokumentasi, sedangkan analisis data menggunakan model interaktif yang meliputi reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kedisiplinan siswa di SMA Swasta Sinar Husni diterapkan melalui disiplin waktu, berpakaian, perilaku, dan pembelajaran. Kedisiplinan berfungsi sebagai sarana pendidikan karakter yang menanamkan nilai tanggung jawab, kemandirian, dan kesadaran moral siswa. Peran guru sebagai teladan dan konsistensi sekolah dalam menegakkan tata tertib menjadi faktor pendukung utama, meskipun masih dipengaruhi oleh faktor lingkungan eksternal. Penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa kedisiplinan yang diterapkan secara edukatif dan berkelanjutan berkontribusi signifikan terhadap pembentukan karakter siswa.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the perceptions of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners regarding the role of phonological awareness in improving English pronunciation from a psycholinguistic perspective. The study uses a descriptive qualitative approach involving twelve university level EFL students in Indonesia. Data were collected through semi structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis.The results of the study show that most learners view phonological awareness as an important foundation for understanding and producing English sounds more accurately. Awareness of the differences between spelling and pronunciation, sound structure, and suprasegmental aspects helps learners identify previously unnoticed pronunciation errors. However, this study also found that learners still face phonological challenges, especially in distinguishing long and short vowels, pronouncing sounds that do not exist in their native language, and applying word stress and intonation consistently. In addition, increased phonological awareness encourages learners to develop more reflective and metacognitive learning strategies, such as minimal pairs exercises, imitation of native speakers, and recording their own voices. Overall, this study confirms that phonological awareness plays an important role in the development of English pronunciation in EFL learners. The findings of this study have pedagogical implications for pronunciation teaching by emphasizing the importance of explicitly integrating phonological awareness in English language learning.

Abstract

This qualitative study explores the interplay between prominent language learning theories Behaviorism, Cognitivism, and Constructivism and the role of memory in the acquisition of words and language structures. Employing thematic analysis of 25 core secondary sources, including seminal works and contemporary reviews, the research identifies four overarching themes: (1) Memory as a Repository for Habitual Associations in Behaviorism, (2) Memory as an Information-Processing Tool in Cognitivism, (3) Memory as a Contextual Scaffold in Constructivism, and (4) Integrative Synergies and Divergences Across Theories. Findings reveal memory as a unifying cognitive mechanism that evolves from a passive repository for rote habits to a dynamic processor and scaffold, facilitating lexical retention and structural internalization. Synergies, such as working memory's universal function in real-time processing, bridge theoretical divides, while divergences highlight tensions between mechanistic, innate, and social emphases. Practical implications include hybrid educational strategies for language teaching and cognitive rehabilitation, particularly for learners with memory-related challenges. Limitations, such as reliance on Western-centric sources, suggest avenues for future mixed-methods research. This synthesis advances psycholinguistic understanding, affirming language acquisition as a memory-driven process and promoting integrative approaches for inclusive learning.
