Abstract

This study aims to describe students' mathematical creative thinking abilities in one of the state elementary schools in Bandun Regency, SDN Cilame on the material for KPK FPB using a descriptive method. The subjects of this study were 4th grade students at SD Negeri Cilame in the odd semester of the 2022/2023 school year with a total of 27 students. The instruments used in this study were essay tests to obtain data on mathematical creative thinking skills and interviews to complement and strengthen information derived from administering tests on triangular material that has been validated empirically. To see students' mathematical creative thinking skills, 4 indicators are used, namely 1) Fluency; 2) Flexibility; 3) Originality; 4) Detail (elaboration). The data analysis technique used in this study is percentage analysis. Based on the analysis of the data obtained for the indicators of fluency (fluency) of 50.93%, flexibility (flexibility) of 46.14%, originality (originality) of 33.33%, and detail (elaboration)

Abstract

This research aims to obtain a comprehensive picture of students' acquisition of Mathematical Understanding Ability using the PBL and IBL models. The method in this research is a mixed method The sample in this research was 16 students in class IV at SDN 1 Girimukti and 12 students in class IV at SDN 2 Girimukti. The results of the research based on SPSS calculations show that descriptively the average gain in mathematical understanding ability of students who studied with PBL was 77.81, higher than the average gain in mathematical understanding ability of students who studied with IBL which was 63.33. Distribution of scores for the acquisition of mathematical understanding ability of students who learning with PBL is more spread out compared to the scores for gaining mathematical understanding abilities of students who study with IBL, as can be seen from the standard deviation scores in both classes, where the PBL class is 8.2 and the IBL is 7.8. The conclusion shows that the description of the mathematical understanding abilities of students who obtain the PBL model is higher than the mathematical understanding abilities of students with the IBL model seen from the mean and standard deviation.

Abstract

Initial observations indicate that elementary school students' numeracy literacy is still low, especially in connecting mathematical concepts to real-world contexts, so that the learning process has not been able to optimally develop numeracy skills. Based on these issues, this study aims to analyze students' numeracy literacy abilities in solving contextual problems with the help of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model. This study uses a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design of one group pre-test and post-test. The results show a significant increase in numeracy literacy scores after the implementation of the PBL model, with a pretest average score of 60.03 (SD = 9.642) and a posttest average score of 78.14 (SD = 7.678), as well as an average difference of 18.114. A correlation value of 0.813 (p < 0.001) and a t-value of -19.089 (p < 0.001) indicate a strong positive effect, with a very large effect size (Cohen's d = -3.227). These findings prove that problem-based learning is effective in improving numeracy literacy by strengthening elementary school students' critical thinking and contextual problem-solving skills.

Abstract

This study investigated the influence of the RADEC (Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, and Create) learning model on elementary school students' mathematical communication skills, considering the factor of gender. The research aimed to determine the effectiveness of the RADEC model, the presence of significant gender differences, and any interaction effects between the learning model and gender in communication abilities. A quasi-experimental design was employed with fourth-grade students from one elementary school in Bandung City, Indonesia, as participants. Data were collected through a five-item essay test on mathematical communication skills and analyzed using descriptive and two-way ANOVA statistics. The results of this study show that there was a statistically significant positive effect of the RADEC learning model on students' mathematical communication skills, with the experimental group achieving higher average scores compared to the control group (77.74 vs. 56.30, p < 0.001). However, no statistically significant difference was found in mathematical communication skills between male and female students (p = 0.693). Furthermore, the study indicated no significant interaction effect between the learning model and gender on mathematical communication skills (p = 0.863). This finding thus points to the effectiveness of the RADEC learning model as a pedagogical approach for enhancing mathematical communication skills for both male and female students in this elementary education context.
