Abstract

The purpose of this experiment was to determine whether or not there were differences in the learning model between Process-Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning (POGIL), Problem Based Learning (PBL), and Teacher-Centered Learning (TCL) with the application of HOTS questions in their learning on students' critical thinking skills. This study used a quasi-experimental research design with the static group pretest-posttest design. The sampling technique used the cluster random sampling technique. The population of this research is the students of class XI MIPA SMA Negeri Gondangrejo in the academic year 2021/2022. The results showed that there were differences in students' critical thinking skills in the POGIL and PBL learning models with conventional learning, all three of which used the application of HOTS questions in their learning. This is based on the significant value of the One-Way ANOVA test, a significance value of <0.05 is obtained, which is 0.000, which means that H0 was rejected. Then, based on the calculation of the N-gain score for each POGIL, PBL, and TCL learning model, the results obtained are 0.71 in the high category; 0.54 in the medium category; and 0.39 in the medium category. However, based on the results of the Post Hoc-Scheefe test between the POGIL and PBL learning models, a significance value of > 0.05 was obtained, which was 0.098, so it could be concluded that there was no significant difference between the POGIL and PBL learning models on critical thinking skills. Therefore, both POGIL and PBL learning models can help improve students' critical thinking skills. The average critical thinking ability in the POGIL experimental class, PBL experimental class, and control class after treatment was 69.44%, 68.54%, and 59.72%.

Abstract

The impact of integrating the Common Knowledge Construction Model (CKCM) with Chemical Bonds-focused Podcasts on students' collaboration skills and cognitive learning achievements is investigated in this study. A quasi-experimental design was employed, with cluster random sampling to select the experimental (N=23) and control (N=30) classes from a private high school in Solo City. Descriptive and inferential analyses were conducted, employing the Mann-Whitney test for hypothesis testing. Results showed that the CKCM approach significantly enhanced collaboration skills (p < 0.001) and learning achievements (p = 0.014), indicating substantial educational benefits. In conclusion, integrating the CKCM with Chemical Bonds podcasts positively influenced students' collaboration skills and cognitive learning achievements. Moreover, this comprehensive model addressed conventional learning objectives and integrated elements of ethnoscience, providing students with a broader and more culturally contextualized understanding. The CKCM model, supplemented by podcasts, facilitated a dynamic learning environment that actively engaged students in knowledge construction. These findings advocate for integrating CKCM and podcasts into educational curricula, offering a scalable model for enhancing 21st-century skills.

Abstract

The rapid of science and technology requires development in the education being able to adapt to the changes. During the industrial revolution 4.0, education was directed at developing 21st century competencies that is consisted of four skills that students must possess and also referred to as 4C Skills. 4C Skills competencies include critical thinking (critical thinking), communication (communication), teamwork (collaboration), and creativity (creative). Students at the elementary school level are taught higher order thinking skills from a younger age. Higher order thinking skills include critical, logical, introspective, metacognitive, and creative thinking. Students not only learn to memorize and understand lessons, but through HOTS competencies are also expected to be able to analyze, evaluate, and create at a deeper level. HOTS is a complex learning and requires logic, reasoning, analysis, judgment, discovery, problem solving, and decision making. Elementary school students' HOTS can be increased by utilizing various learning media, for instance learning videos, e-books, and websites. By using a more interesting learning approach, educational media is intended to attract students' attention and encourage their involvement in the learning process.

Abstract

Biogas has been available as a renewable energy source to accelerate national economic development. This research aimed to analyze the potential of renewable energy production development in Indonesia and present the application of potential waste processing into biogas. This study fills the knowledge gap through a critical review of the potential for developing renewable energy from animal waste in Indonesia, including biogas, power generation, transportation, and value-added chemicals. This study was conducted using a critical review of research articles and is supported by other related literature. The result of the study showed that Indonesia has great potential to develop biogas production due to its substrate availability, particularly from farm animal waste or other organic waste, even though its utilization has not been maximized. The data showed that primary energy consumption, especially in the industrial and transportation sectors, was dominated by fossil fuels and coal. The production of biogas technology development comprehensively included the processes and techniques of waste handling from biogas production. Most of the biogas application approaches were still in the early stage. Identifying opportunities, obstacles, policies, research, and development is still needed, particularly in this relatively new sector.
