Abstract

Bamboo weaving in Loyok Village is a cultural heritage practice that integrates inherited craftsmanship, local resource use, and community livelihoods. This study aims to identify its potential, analyze preservation challenges, and explain the impacts of ongoing conservation efforts in Loyok Village, Sikur District, East Lombok Regency. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed from July to September 2025. Data were collected through observation, structured and unstructured interviews, and documentation involving 13 informants, including artisans, art-shop owners, guides, local administrative heads, and village staff. Data were analyzed interactively through collection, reduction, display, and conclusion drawing and verification, while prolonged observation and triangulation were used to strengthen credibility. The findings reveal three major areas of potential: the availability of bamboo and surrounding raw-material supplies, intergenerational weaving skills, and opportunities for product development, digital markets, and educational tourism. Preservation is constrained by competition from inexpensive and practical modern products, declining interest among younger people, and limited local consumer appreciation of the value of manual craftsmanship. Conservation efforts generate economic benefits through household income and employment, while reinforcing local identity, cultural awareness, and the use of relatively environmentally friendly materials. Sustainable preservation therefore requires apprenticeship-based regeneration, design innovation that maintains authenticity, stronger digital marketing, experiential cultural tourism, and coordinated collaboration among village government, artisans, educational institutions, and tourism actors.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of traditional weaving preservation in shaping the identity of the Pringgasela community, East Lombok. Pringgasela weaving serves not only as a craft product but also as a symbol of local identity passed down from generation to generation. In the context of modernization and globalization, weaving preservation is crucial for maintaining the sustainability of local cultural values. The research method used was descriptive qualitative with a case study approach in East Pringgasela Village. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with weavers, traditional leaders, and the local community, as well as documentation of weaving preservation activities. The results of the study indicate that weaving preservation in Pringgasela plays a significant role in shaping and strengthening community identity. Weaving serves as a medium for cultural expression, strengthens social solidarity, and serves as an economic resource for the community. Conservation efforts include cultural education in schools, weaving training for the younger generation, the formation of the Nine Weaving Group (KNP), and the promotion of weaving as a superior regional product. Preservation is carried out through free weaving school programs, the use of natural dyes, and the revitalization of traditional motifs such as ragi sundawa, saritunggu, and pucuk rebung, which have existed since the 14th century AD. In conclusion, the preservation of traditional weaving in Pringgasela not only preserves cultural heritage but also shapes the community's collective identity amidst the changing times.

Abstract

Ecoprint batik has gained widespread popularity across Indonesia, including in Kayangan Sub-district, North Lombok Regency. This study examines the social and economic impact of ecoprint batik production on its practitioners in the region. Using a qualitative-historical approach, data collection involved heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The findings reveal that ecoprint batik has significantly influenced both the social interactions and economic well-being of its practitioners from 2019 to 2022. The growing interest from various stakeholders, including government institutions, has created entrepreneurial opportunities for community members. Socially, ecoprint has facilitated broader networks among practitioners, connecting them with designers, government officials, and international buyers. Economically, the production of ecoprint products has generated substantial income, with products priced around Rp350,000 each, serving as either primary or supplementary livelihoods. Despite temporary setbacks during the COVID-19 pandemic, the industry has demonstrated remarkable resilience and growth, with product diversification ensuring sustained consumer interest. This research contributes to understanding how sustainable creative industries can enhance community welfare while preserving environmental values.

Abstract

This study examines the history and development of the Student Regiment (Menwa) in building state defense awareness among students at Hamzanwadi University from 2018 to 2023. The Student Regiment is a semi-military organization that functions as a reserve component of national defense and plays a strategic role in fostering nationalism and patriotism among university students. This research employs a qualitative approach using the historical method, encompassing four stages: heuristics (data collection), source criticism (verification), interpretation (data analysis), and historiography (writing). Data were obtained through interviews with key informants, including the founding commander, former unit commanders, and active members, as well as through document analysis of official archives. The findings reveal that the Student Regiment in East Lombok was established in 2018 through a formal decree appointing Abdul Basyir as the sub-commander. The organization has experienced significant development, marked by the establishment of three units across various universities. However, challenges in building state defense awareness are more internal, relating to students' personal motivation and ego. Despite these obstacles, the Student Regiment has made substantial contributions to the university through security services at campus events and athletic achievements, including provincial-level shooting competition victories. The research contributes to understanding how semi-military student organizations can effectively foster nationalism and state defense consciousness in higher education institutions.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The importance of preserving local traditions as part of Sasak cultural identity has become increasingly significant amid social change and modernization. The Bereqe tradition in Kotaraja Village, Sikur District, East Lombok Regency, is a cultural heritage that continues to be practiced as part of the circumcision ceremony, although its forms and implementation have undergone changes. This study aims to explain the history and implementation process of the Bereqe tradition, examine its meanings, and understand its social and religious values. The study employed a qualitative approach using a historical method through the stages of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving traditional leaders, religious leaders, community leaders, village government representatives, youth, and members of the Kotaraja community. The findings show that the Bereqe tradition consists of several stages, namely tetaring, Mandiang Maling/Bebubus, and Praja Sunatan/Bejaranan. Over time, the use of juli and jaranan, as well as the timing of the ceremony, has changed in response to social conditions. The tradition is interpreted as an expression of gratitude, an effort to seek safety, purification, and a transition to a new stage of life. Furthermore, Bereqe embodies social values such as mutual cooperation, togetherness, concern, affection, and social solidarity, as well as religious values reflected in prayer, gratitude, advice, obedience, and hopes for blessings. These findings confirm that the sustainability of Bereqe depends on the community's ability to preserve its values and meanings while adapting its implementation to changing times.
