Abstract

Language is very important because people use it to share their thoughts and feelings. This study talks about how a singer named Yebba shows her feelings of betrayal and sadness in her song My Mind. Many people listen to songs, but not many understand how the words in a song can show deep emotions. The purpose of this study is to find out how Yebba uses language to express her mental struggle and broken heart. The writers used a qualitative method, which means studying the song’s lyrics carefully to find the meaning behind the words. The research used Halliday’s Systemic Functional Linguistics, especially the part called transitivity, which looks at actions, feelings, and people in sentences. The results show that most of the sentences use material processes, which describe real actions like closing the door or leaving. There are also mental processes that show what the singer thinks and feels, and relational processes that describe what something is like. The song uses language to show both outside actions and inner emotions. In the end, this study shows that Yebba’s My Mind tells the story of betrayal and emotional pain through the way the words are used. It also helps us understand how songs can use simple language to show deep feelings. The study suggests that other researchers can use this method to study different songs and learn how singers express their emotions through words.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to identify problems in the air intake and exhaust systems and to evaluate the performance of a Caterpillar C15 diesel engine through engine dynamometer testing at PT Trakindo Utama Surabaya. The method involved technical observation, dynamometer testing under various load conditions, and analysis of engine performance parameters, including power, torque, engine speed, oil pressure, fuel pressure, and boost pressure. The test results indicate that increasing load leads to proportional increases in power, torque, and boost pressure, while engine speed decreases at high loads without indicating abnormalities in the lubrication and fuel supply systems. Problem identification reveals that performance degradation is mainly associated with the valve mechanism and combustion instability, as indicated by improper valve lash and excessive white smoke from the exhaust system. The application of step-by-step troubleshooting procedures in accordance with manufacturer specifications proved effective in determining appropriate corrective actions and restoring engine performance to optimal conditions. This study provides a solid technical basis for implementing preventive and corrective maintenance strategies for Caterpillar C15 engines in heavy-duty industrial applications.

Abstract

The dismantling process of industrial chimneys requires a safe and reliable lifting system, in which the lifting lug serves as a critical component for transferring loads to the lifting equipment. Improper lifting lug design may lead to significant safety risks during the lifting of segmented structures. This study aimed to evaluate the structural strength of a lifting lug design used in a staged chimney dismantling process using Finite Element Analysis (FEA). The chimney was divided into three loading conditions representing different segment masses, namely segments 1–5, 6–14, and 15–23. The analysis was conducted using SolidWorks Simulation with ASTM A36 structural steel and static loading assumptions. The evaluated output parameters included Von Mises stress, Von Mises strain, and total deformation. The simulation results indicated maximum Von Mises stresses of 76.85 MPa, 101.8 MPa, and 81.62 MPa for each segment group, all of which were below the material yield strength of 250 MPa. The maximum Von Mises strain remained within the elastic range, with the highest value of 77.97 MPa. The total deformation was relatively small, with maximum displacement values below 0.6 mm for all loading cases. These results demonstrate that the analyzed lifting lug design is structurally safe and suitable for application in staged chimney dismantling operations.

Abstract

This study investigates the microstructural characteristics and elemental composition of nano carbon powder produced through a ball milling process using Scanning Electron Microscopy and Energy Dispersive X-Ray (SEM-EDX). The milling process was conducted using a horizontal ball mill with a milling time of 6 hours and a rotational speed of 140 rpm, selected based on the optimal parameters obtained from prior analysis. Carbon material was milled using a combination of zirconia balls with various diameters to enhance the comminution efficiency. The results indicate that the ball milling process significantly reduced the particle size to the nanoscale, achieving a size reduction value of 89.8%. SEM observations revealed that the carbon particles exhibited thin, flaky, and irregular morphologies, indicating the occurrence of mechanical exfoliation during milling. EDX analysis confirmed that carbon (C) was the dominant element, accompanied by minor elements such as O, Mn, Fe, and Zn, which are attributed to mechanical interactions and sample preparation processes. Overall, the milling parameters of 6 hours and 140 rpm were found to be effective in producing nano carbon powder with favorable microstructural characteristics for potential carbon-based material applications.

Abstract

This study analyzes the effect of injection molding processing temperature variation on mechanical properties of bioplastic based on polylactic acid (PLA) reinforced with bananapeel flour. Material was processed at three different temperatures (200°C, 225°C, 250°C) with70% PLA–30% banana peel flour composition. Tensile testing was performed using Universal Testing Machine (UTM) according to ASTM D638 Type I standard to measure tensile strength and elastic modulus. Results showed that 225°C produced the highest tensile strength of 50.96 MPa and elastic modulus of 49.96 MPa, far exceeding 200°C (27.09 MPa;21.99 MPa) and 250°C (35.97 MPa; 30.40 MPa). This research confirms that there is an optimum temperature of 225°C that produces the best balance between material structure homogeneity and matrix–filler interfacial bonding, making PLA–banana peel flour bioplastic potentially suitable as a conventional plastic substitute with competitive mechanical properties.

Abstract

Conventional plastics are widely used due to their good mechanical properties; however, they pose serious environmental problems because they are difficult to degrade naturally. Therefore, bioplastics based on renewable resources, such as Polylactic Acid (PLA) reinforced with cassava peel flour as a natural filler, have been developed as an environmentally friendly alternative. This study aimed to analyze the effect of processing temperature variations on the mechanical properties and biodegradation rate of PLA–cassava peel flour bioplastics. An experimental method was employed with processing temperatures of 200 °C, 225 °C, and 250 °C. The material composition consisted of 70 wt% PLA and 30 wt% cassava peel flour, which was processed using injection molding through the melt intercalation technique. Tensile test specimens were prepared according to ASTM D638 Type I standards. Mechanical characterization was conducted using a Universal Testing Machine (UTM), while biodegradation behavior was evaluated using the soil burial test for four weeks. The results showed that a processing temperature of 225 °C produced the highest tensile strength of approximately 67 MPa. Increasing the temperature to 250 °C resulted in a decrease in tensile strength and elongation due to thermal degradation, although the elastic modulus and biodegradation rate increased. These findings indicate that processing temperature plays a crucial role in controlling the relationship between processing conditions, material structure, and mechanical properties of PLA–cassava peel flour bioplastic. Abstract

Abrasion is a common wear mechanism that occurs in machine components due to repeated frictional contact, particularly in aluminum materials that are widely used because of their light weight and corrosion resistance. Nevertheless, aluminum remains susceptible to wear when the lubrication system does not perform optimally. This study aims to design and develop a laboratory-scale abrasion testing machine and to analyze the effect of rotational speed on the wear behavior of aluminum 6061 under oil lubrication. The research employed a research and development method consisting of design, fabrication, assembly, functional testing, and abrasion testing stages. Abrasion tests were conducted at rotational speeds of 500, 1000, and 1500 RPM with a constant load of 3 kg, a test duration of 30 minutes, and Shell SAE 10W-30 oil as the lubricant. Quantitative data were obtained from the measurement of specimen mass loss before and after testing, while qualitative analysis focused on machine performance and operational stability during testing. The results indicate that the developed abrasion testing machine operated properly and was capable of producing consistent wear data. The mass loss of aluminum specimens increased with higher rotational speeds, with the highest average wear observed at 1500 RPM. This study contributes by providing a simple and cost-effective abrasion testing machine for laboratory applications and by offering insights into the influence of rotational speed on the wear behavior of aluminum under lubricated conditions.

Abstract

The advancement of manufacturing technology has driven the need for innovation in metal surface protection, one of which is through the electroplating method. This process uses electric current to deposit a coating metal onto the surface of a base metal, aiming to improve corrosion resistance, hardness, and surface aesthetics. Electrical voltage is a key parameter that influences the quality of the resulting coating. This study aims to analyze the effect of electrical voltage on the thickness and gloss of electroplated metal coatings. This study employed an experimental approach consisting of a literature review, problem identification, preparation of tools and materials, testing, and data analysis. The main equipment and materials used in this research included ST37 material, a DC power supply with voltage variations of 3 V, 6 V, and 12 V, electrodes, and an electrolyte solution composed of nickel and chromium. Data were obtained by measuring the coating thickness using a Thickness Gauge and surface gloss using a Gloss Meter for each voltage variation. The results of this study indicate that the applied voltage significantly affects the thickness and glossiness of the electroplated coating. The highest values were obtained at 6 V, with an average coating thickness of 20.80 µm and a gloss value of 566 GU, indicating the formation of a smooth and highly reflective surface.

Abstract

ST41 steel is a low-carbon steel widely used in the industry due to its toughness, but it has low surface hardness, making it less suitable for components subject to friction. To enhance these surface properties, an electroplating process is performed using nickel as the base layer and chromium as the top layer. This study aims to analyze the effect of varying electroplating time on the thickness and hardness of the ST41 steel surface layer. The research method used was an experiment with variations in nickel coating time of 30 minutes, 45 minutes, and 60 minutes at a voltage of 3 V and a temperature of 55 °C. Chrome plating was carried out for 10 seconds at a voltage of 12 V. Layer thickness testing was conducted using a coating thickness gauge, while surface hardness testing was performed using the Vickers method according to ASTM E384 standards with a load of 50 gf. The research results show that the coating thickness increases with longer plating time, from 18.18 µm at 30 minutes to 20.79 µm at 60 minutes. The highest surface hardness value was obtained at a plating time of 45 minutes, reaching 490.4 HV, then decreased at 60 minutes. This indicates that a plating time of 45 minutes is the most optimal condition for producing a nickel–chrome electroplated layer with the highest surface hardness on ST41 steel.
