Abstract

Conventional plastics are widely used due to their good mechanical properties; however, they pose serious environmental problems because they are difficult to degrade naturally. Therefore, bioplastics based on renewable resources, such as Polylactic Acid (PLA) reinforced with cassava peel flour as a natural filler, have been developed as an environmentally friendly alternative. This study aimed to analyze the effect of processing temperature variations on the mechanical properties and biodegradation rate of PLA–cassava peel flour bioplastics. An experimental method was employed with processing temperatures of 200 °C, 225 °C, and 250 °C. The material composition consisted of 70 wt% PLA and 30 wt% cassava peel flour, which was processed using injection molding through the melt intercalation technique. Tensile test specimens were prepared according to ASTM D638 Type I standards. Mechanical characterization was conducted using a Universal Testing Machine (UTM), while biodegradation behavior was evaluated using the soil burial test for four weeks. The results showed that a processing temperature of 225 °C produced the highest tensile strength of approximately 67 MPa. Increasing the temperature to 250 °C resulted in a decrease in tensile strength and elongation due to thermal degradation, although the elastic modulus and biodegradation rate increased. These findings indicate that processing temperature plays a crucial role in controlling the relationship between processing conditions, material structure, and mechanical properties of PLA–cassava peel flour bioplastic. Keywords: Bioplastic, Polylactic Acid, Cassava Peel Flour, Processing Temperature, Tensile Properties.

Abstract

Abrasion is a common wear mechanism that occurs in machine components due to repeated frictional contact, particularly in aluminum materials that are widely used because of their light weight and corrosion resistance. Nevertheless, aluminum remains susceptible to wear when the lubrication system does not perform optimally. This study aims to design and develop a laboratory-scale abrasion testing machine and to analyze the effect of rotational speed on the wear behavior of aluminum 6061 under oil lubrication. The research employed a research and development method consisting of design, fabrication, assembly, functional testing, and abrasion testing stages. Abrasion tests were conducted at rotational speeds of 500, 1000, and 1500 RPM with a constant load of 3 kg, a test duration of 30 minutes, and Shell SAE 10W-30 oil as the lubricant. Quantitative data were obtained from the measurement of specimen mass loss before and after testing, while qualitative analysis focused on machine performance and operational stability during testing. The results indicate that the developed abrasion testing machine operated properly and was capable of producing consistent wear data. The mass loss of aluminum specimens increased with higher rotational speeds, with the highest average wear observed at 1500 RPM. This study contributes by providing a simple and cost-effective abrasion testing machine for laboratory applications and by offering insights into the influence of rotational speed on the wear behavior of aluminum under lubricated conditions.

Abstract

The advancement of manufacturing technology has driven the need for innovation in metal surface protection, one of which is through the electroplating method. This process uses electric current to deposit a coating metal onto the surface of a base metal, aiming to improve corrosion resistance, hardness, and surface aesthetics. Electrical voltage is a key parameter that influences the quality of the resulting coating. This study aims to analyze the effect of electrical voltage on the thickness and gloss of electroplated metal coatings. This study employed an experimental approach consisting of a literature review, problem identification, preparation of tools and materials, testing, and data analysis. The main equipment and materials used in this research included ST37 material, a DC power supply with voltage variations of 3 V, 6 V, and 12 V, electrodes, and an electrolyte solution composed of nickel and chromium. Data were obtained by measuring the coating thickness using a Thickness Gauge and surface gloss using a Gloss Meter for each voltage variation. The results of this study indicate that the applied voltage significantly affects the thickness and glossiness of the electroplated coating. The highest values were obtained at 6 V, with an average coating thickness of 20.80 µm and a gloss value of 566 GU, indicating the formation of a smooth and highly reflective surface.

Abstract

ST41 steel is a low-carbon steel widely used in the industry due to its toughness, but it has low surface hardness, making it less suitable for components subject to friction. To enhance these surface properties, an electroplating process is performed using nickel as the base layer and chromium as the top layer. This study aims to analyze the effect of varying electroplating time on the thickness and hardness of the ST41 steel surface layer. The research method used was an experiment with variations in nickel coating time of 30 minutes, 45 minutes, and 60 minutes at a voltage of 3 V and a temperature of 55 °C. Chrome plating was carried out for 10 seconds at a voltage of 12 V. Layer thickness testing was conducted using a coating thickness gauge, while surface hardness testing was performed using the Vickers method according to ASTM E384 standards with a load of 50 gf. The research results show that the coating thickness increases with longer plating time, from 18.18 µm at 30 minutes to 20.79 µm at 60 minutes. The highest surface hardness value was obtained at a plating time of 45 minutes, reaching 490.4 HV, then decreased at 60 minutes. This indicates that a plating time of 45 minutes is the most optimal condition for producing a nickel–chrome electroplated layer with the highest surface hardness on ST41 steel.

Abstract

Madrasah education plays a strategic role in shaping students’ religious values, moral character, and literacy practices. However, classroom instruction in many madrasahs remains dominated by text-based and teacher-centered approaches, which can limit students’ opportunities to actively construct meaning. This article explores the implementation of multimodal project-based learning in madrasah classrooms through the lens of Islamic education. Guided by Sociocultural Theory and a narrative inquiry approach, the study examines how multimodal activities, such as drawing, storytelling, and limited digitally supported tasks, support literacy development while allowing teachers to integrate Islamic values into everyday learning practices. Drawing on teachers’ narratives and classroom experiences, the article highlights both the pedagogical possibilities of multimodal learning and the challenges faced by madrasah teachers, including limited resources, curricular rigidity, and emotional demands associated with instructional innovation. The findings suggest that multimodal projects create spaces for more meaningful, and value-oriented literacy practices in madrasah classrooms, positioning teachers as reflective agents who negotiate between curriculum expectations and students’ lived experiences.

Abstract

Background: Calcium hydroxide [Ca(OH)2] is the gold standard material in pulp capping treatment due to reparative dentin formation and antibacterial. However, Ca(OH)2 deficiency forms reparative dentin with tunnel defects and is easily soluble in water and acid. Mauli banana stem extract (MBSE) functions as an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory and is expected to form better reparative dentin. The combination of Ca(OH)2 and MBSE is assumed to be able to improve the physical properties of Ca(OH)2. Purpose: to analyze the effect of 50% MBSE+ Ca(OH)2 combination on solubility and water absorption as a pulp capping material. Methods: The group were combination of MBSE+Ca(OH)2+PG (1.5:1:0.375), (1:1.5:0.375) and  Ca(OH)2 + aquadest (1:1). Each group consisted of 5 samples with 6 groups and 2 tests, a total of 60 samples with dimensions of 15 mm x 1 mm. Samples were measured for solubility and water absorption ability by weighing before and after dissolving in 50 mL of artificial saliva for 24 hours, drying, incubating, and weighing a second time. The result of the mass reduction divided by the volume of the sample was considered as the solubility and water absorption rate in 1 and 7 days. The data was analyzed using One Way Anova with significant difference <0.05. Results: The solubility of MBSE+Ca(OH)2+PG at (1.5:1:0.375) and (1:1.5:0.375)was lower than Ca(OH)2+aquadest (1:1) after immersion for 1 day and 7 day. The water absorption of MBSE+Ca(OH)2+PG (1.5:1:0.375) was not different from Ca(OH)2+aquadest (1:1) after immersion  for 1 day, but higher in 7 day (p<0,05). Conclusion: The solubility of the MBSE-Ca(OH) combination is lower than Ca(OH)2 alone, the water absorption of the MBSE- Ca(OH)2 combination is higher than that of Ca(OH)2 alone.

Abstract

Background: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a gram-negative anaerobic bacteria and frequently associated with necrotic pulp infections. Necrotic pulp can be treated with root canal treatment (RCT). Sterilization of the root canal is one of the stages in RCT. The most used intracanal medicament in the sterilization stage of root canals is calcium hydroxide. This material may cause pulp irritation and inflammation in the surrounding tissues. These drawbacks are the reason for the necessity of alternative intracanal medicaments from natural materials such as ramania leaves (Bouea macrophylla Griffith). Flavonoids, saponins, tannins, steroids, and phenols are secondary metabolites derived from Ramania leaves that have been shown to have antibacterial properties. Purpose: To analyze the antibacterial effectiveness of ramania leaves extract gel (Bouea macrophylla Griffith) against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Methods: Experimental study with a post-test only with control group design consisting of 5 treatment groups, namely ramania leaves extract gel with a concentration of 6,25%, 12,5%, 25%, 50%, and control (calcium hydroxide mixed with gel base) were repeated 5 times. The method used in the antibacterial test is using the agar well diffusion assay. Results: The Post-Hoc Bonferroni test confirmed statistically that there is significant differences among the treatment groups. Conclusion: The ramania leaves extract gel (Bouea macrophylla Griffith) at concentrations of 6.25%, 12.5%, 25%, and 50% has antibacterial potential against the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Keywords: antibacterial, bouea macrophylla griffith, intracanal medicament, necrotic pulp, pseudomonas aeruginosa, root canal treatment.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This study analyzes the Structural Strength of micro wind turbine blades made of CFRP and GFRP composites using the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) method. Aerodynamic loads are obtained from QBlade simulations at a wind speed of 12 m/s and applied as non-uniform pressure on the blades. Composite modeling is performed with ANSYS Composite PrepPost (ACP) using a 4-ply laminated composite configuration with fiber orientations of 0°, 45°, −45°, and 90° and varying ply thicknesses along the blade. Static analysis shows that the CFRP blade produces a Von Mises stress of 15,648 MPa with a maximum displacement of 3.1616 mm, while the GFRP blade produces a stress of 12,786 MPa with a maximum displacement of 6,947 mm. These results indicate that CFRP has better Structural stiffness than GFRP, making it more suitable for micro wind turbine blade applications that require high Structural stability.
