Abstract

This research aims to know students’ perceptions of the use of Grammarly in thesis writing and their experiences in using it. The data were derived from Likert Scale questionnaire and interview. The questionnaire was distributed to 40 English Education students to know about students’ perceptions, which covered three aspects: perceived usefulness, perceived easiness, and students’ satisfaction. Meanwhile, the interview was conducted with three chosen participants to learn about students’ actual experiences in using Grammarly. The result showed the mean score for each aspect with the following distribution: perceived usefulness is 4.06, perceived ease is 3.92, and students’ satisfaction is 4.01. These scores were verbally interpreted as ‘agree’, meaning that students perceived using Grammarly positively. These are supported by the interview results, in which students shared that they experienced benefits from using Grammarly in correcting punctuation, detecting mistyping, reconstructing sentences, and detecting grammar errors. However, the participants also stated that they noticed some weaknesses of this tool, which were related to inaccuracy of the feedback given. Eventually, this study revealed that in general, students agree that Grammarly is a helpful tool to help them with thesis writing, along with its advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, students’ awareness is required to avoid errors that Grammarly might produce.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low motivation and learning outcomes of elementary school students in mathematics, particularly in social arithmetic, as well as the limited integration of digital technology in classroom instruction. The research aimed to develop interactive mobile learning (ML) media that is engaging, user-friendly, and aligned with the curriculum to enhance students’ motivation and achievement. The study employed a research and development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model through the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Validation by media and content experts ensured technical quality and content accuracy. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group was implemented. The results revealed a significant improvement in the experimental group, with the mean posttest score rising from 40.97 to 72.47, while the control group increased by only 4.99 points. Paired t-test and ANCOVA confirmed these differences, and the motivation questionnaire demonstrated high reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha >0.88). Observations and interviews supported the quantitative findings, showing increased engagement, independence, and teacher–student interaction. The interactive ML media proved effective, feasible, and ready for broader implementation as a digital learning innovation supporting 21st-century educational transformation

Abstract

Role-play in learning leads to a teaching-learning activity more focused on students. This research aimed to investigate the improvement of the speaking aspect in the classroom. This research was Classroom Action Research (CAR) in two cycles for 25 eighth-grade students of SMPN 1 Serawai in the academic year 2014–2015. The results showed that the mean fluency score increased from 24.20 in the first cycle to 28.88 in the second cycle. This shows that speaking is sometimes hesitant. The pronunciation has risen from 24.20 to 30.60, which indicates student’s pronunciation is in the category of not foreign accents and occasional mispronunciation but does not interfere with the understanding. The grammar component was 9.76, increasing to 13.88, indicating that the student’s grammar has occasional errors showing interference control and some pattern but no weakness that causes misunderstanding. The result of the observation and the student assessment also showed that there were improvements in the student's participation during teaching and learning activities. The researcher suggests that teachers can use this technique to help students improve their speaking and other English skills.

Abstract

This study provides a comprehensive systematic review of the integration of five major social networking sites (SNSs)—Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, Instagram, and TikTok—within secondary English as a Foreign Language (EFL) education. Using the Harzing Publish or Perish software, over 1,500 journal articles published between 2018 and 2023 were screened, with 87 meeting the inclusion criteria for in-depth analysis. The findings reveal a growing research interest in this area, with an average effect size of 1.792, indicating a significant impact. YouTube emerged as the most frequently examined platform, featured in 36 studies, while the SNSs overall were applied in diverse ways, including as media resources, learning management systems (LMS), discussion forums, and platforms for content creation. Results suggest that SNS integration can enhance learner engagement, promote student-centered and blended learning, and foster both language proficiency and digital literacy through interactive and creative practices. Future research should investigate the comparative effectiveness of different platforms, assess their long-term contributions to EFL education, and consider emerging trends such as GenAI-based applications.
