Abstract

AbstractThis study aimed to design a grammar teaching video by using animated video made from videoscribe to Junior High School students. This research was a development research. Eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 16 Pontianak were subjects of this study. This research utilized a questionnaire in google form as the instrument of data collection to gain the needs of students. According to the result of questionnaire, most of students preferred to learn English by using a video in the classroom. The researcher designed an animated grammar teaching video and the topic was superlative adjectives. The video could be advantageous for students since the animated video delightfully attracts the attention of students in the classroom. The teacher could make use of the animated grammar teaching video as a medium in teaching English. The difficulties in teaching English grammar might be decreased when applying animated grammar teaching video, and the teacher could design her own animated video by using the videoscibe in the further. Keywords: English Grammar, Grammar Teaching Video, Videoscribe

Abstract

 Abstract:This research answer the problem that is the use of story map reading strategy improves students reading comprehension on narrative text of the second years student of SMPN 10 Singkawang. This research is intended to answer the problem to investigate how well story map improves students’ ability in mentioning the detail information from the generic structure and language feature of narrative text. The researsch method used in this research is the clasroom action research method. The writer used observation checklist table and field note as the tool of data collection. On the first, second and third cycle, the writer used kinds of interesting material and teaching media, such as pictures, vocabulary preparation to encourage the students’ involvement in the teaching learning process. The mean score in the first cycle was 57,5 in the second cycle was 62,4; and in the third cycle was 70,3. Based on Story Map Strategy,the students’ ability in reading comprehension on narrative text evidently improves. Keyword : Reading comprehension, Narrative text, Story Map

Abstract

Abstract: Research was conducted in two cycles. In the first cycle activities,  the students are asked to copy a descriptive paragraph same with paragraph model correctly.The results of the students value obtained in these activities reached an average value of 80.00. While activity in the second cycle, students are asked to rewrite a descriptive paragraph by replacing the name and use the appropriate personal pronoun with suitable  name that is provided in parentheses. The result of the students’values  reached an average value of 84.00. Based on the results of these activities carried out on both cycle can be concluded that  the students’ ability improved  in copying a paragraph.  This means that the act of the copying strategy of hypothesis  use to improve students’ writing skills in the classroom prove. It has reached a value above the average KKM is 70.00. Thus the author concludes that copying a paragraph improve skills in writing.Thus, the authors suggest that teachers should determine a strategy is suitable or appropriate for students who are taught in accordance with the condition and may help them in writing. Keyword: Writing ability, copying descriptive paragraph Abstract: Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam dua siklus. Dalam kegiatan siklus pertama, siswa diminta untuk menyalin sebuah paragraf deskriptif yang sama dengan model kalimat dengan benar. Hasil nilai siswa yang diperoleh dalam kegiatan ini mencapai nilai rata-rata 80,00. Sementara aktivitas pada siklus kedua, siswa diminta untuk menulis ulang paragraf deskriptif dengan mengganti nama dan menggunakan kata ganti diri yang sesuai dengan nama yang cocok yang disediakan dalam kurung. Hasil students'values ​​mencapai nilai rata-rata 84,00. Berdasarkan hasil kegiatan ini dilakukan pada kedua siklus dapat disimpulkan bahwa kemampuan siswa meningkat dalam menyalin paragraf. Ini berarti bahwa tindakan strategi menyalin hipotesis digunakan untuk meningkatkan siswa keterampilan menulis di kelas membuktikan. Telah mencapai nilai di atas rata-rata KKM adalah 70,00. Dengan demikian penulis menyimpulkan bahwa menyalin paragraf meningkatkan keterampilan dalam menulis. Jadi, penulis menyarankan bahwa guru harus menentukan strategi cocok atau sesuai untuk siswa yang diajar sesuai dengan kondisi dan dapat membantu mereka dalam menulis. Abstract

AbstractThis study aims to find the students’ perceptions of the English learning program in Euroweek foundation in Poland. The design of this research is a descriptive study. The respondents of this research were 100 students of Euroweek from the year 2019/2020. The researcher collected the data by using a questionnaire. From this research, it can be concluded that the students have positive perceptions of the program. It was proved by the total of students score that their motivation reached 92,04%, their interest in the program reached 83,12%, and their satisfaction after joining the program was 87,32%. Moreover, the statement score of the motivation reached 95%, as for the interest aspect has great result with the score reached 80,4%, and the satisfaction statement reached 87%. These total scores determine that the English learning program in Euroweek was significantly impactful for the students, mostly in improving their speaking and listening skill through its integrated activities. Also, with a great potential to provide rich opportunities for exchanging individual worldviews, promoting cultural understanding, experiencing personal growth, and as well providing the need in Poland for English proficiency improvement.Keywords: English Camp, English Learning, Euroweek

Abstract

This study aims to develop the teaching material which can be implemented to teach descriptive text writing for the tenth-grade students of Senior High School. This study using ADDIE model to develop instructional teaching material which was adapted to meet the condition of the research. This research only implemented three phases which were analyzing, designing, and developing (ADD). The ADDIE model was selected because of its clear stages for designing a module and appropriate with educational research and development. The module was developed by observing the syllabus and textbook. The product developed combined several tasks and team pair solo as the technique. This module designed consisted of material, several tasks, and assessment that compiled with the syllabus and learning objectives stated in the 2013 curriculum. To ensure the applicability of the module, the researcher used a validation checklist from the expert to analyze. The validation checklist was used to validate the module's content. The result from experts’ validation indicated that the module was applicable as teaching material for descriptive text writing for the tenth-grade students of Senior High School due to the following features: the explanation of the text which was quite clear, the appropriate materials, and also several tasks that matched the materials.

Abstract

Abstract This research aimed at designing video game as english teaching and learning media to teach the descriptive text for the first semester students of tenth grade at SMA Negeri 2 Pontianak City of Kalimantan Barat Province. The writer used ADDIE as the research method and using analysis, design, and development in development research. Theparticipants of this research were the English teacher and also 34 students. The writer used questionnaire as the main instrument to collect the data to find out the usability of teaching media designed. The result of mean score of the questionnaire for the English teacher was 99% in strongly agreed, meanwhile the mean score of the questionnaire forthe students was 72,2% in agreed responds. In conclusion, the respond of the participants to the media designed was usable for the first semester students of tenth grade at SMA Negeri 2 Pontianak in academic year 2017-2018. Abstract

AbstractImplementation of Running Dictation Game to students was interesting because it could motivate students to show their ability in English language learning activities. Besides, Running Dictation Game gave a chance to students to express their ideas individually or in a group in the classroom. This technique could make students be creative, active and productive in learning activities. In addition, when the students were involved in this learning activity using this technique, they experienced fun, happy and enjoyable atmosphere in the classroom. This study aims to implement Running Dictation Game in learning activities. To collect the data, the researcher observed students’ activeness and students’ productivity in a lesson with Recount text as the topic. The data was analyzed using classroom action research. Abstract

Abstract : This study was to develop a local culture – based English reading workbook as the supplementary materials for the second year students of Jasa Boga major of SMK Negeri 5 Pontianak. The fundamental thought underlied this study was to support Jasa Boga students with expertise of English materials which relevant to their major. The workbook was developed within five phases of : Analisys; Design; Development; Implementation; and Evaluation (ADDIE). The data were gathered from questionnaires, interview, checklists, and fieldnotes. From the findings, it is indicated that the workbook is worth using in terms of its usability and relevancy. The positive responses given by the students, teacher, and validators towards the materials and the texts readability calculations proved these. In short, this study has succeeded developing a qualified reading workbook for Jasa Boga students as the supplementary materials for fulfilling in their needs.   Key words : Local Culture, Reading Workbook, “Jasa Boga”     Abstrak : Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengembangkan lembar kerja siswa Bahasa Inggris yang berdasarkan budaya lokal sebagai materi pelengkap untuk siswa kelas dua jurusan Jasa Boga SMK Negeri 5 Pontianak. Pikiran dasar dari penelitian ini bermaksud untuk mendukung siswa jurusan Jasa Boga dengan materi keahlian yang menggunakan Bahasa Inggris yang sesuai dengan jurusan mereka. Buku kerja ini dikembangkan dalam lima fase, yaitu Analisys, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation (ADDIE). Data penelitian diperoleh dari kuisioner, wawancara, ceklis, catatan lapangan, dan validasi. Dari hasil penelitian, ditemukan bahwa buku kerja ini layak untuk digunakan karena kepraktisan dan relevansinya. Respon positif yang diberikan siswa, guru, dan validator terhadap materi, serta perhitingan keterbacaan teks membuktikan hal tersebut. Secara ringkas, penelitian ini telah berhasil mengembangkan sebuah lembar kerja siswa untuk siswa jurusan Jasa Boga sebagai materi pelengkap untuk memenuhi kebutuhan mereka akan materi khusus berbahasa Inggris.   Kata Kunci : Budaya Lokal, Lembar Kerja Siswa, Jasa Boga

Abstract

ABSTRACT The purpose of this research was to find out students’ perception about Mind vector application for arranging ideas at SMP 14 Pontianak who have joined English Club in academic year 2019/2020. This research applied descriptive research as form of research. This research focused on students’ perception that learners replied a questionnaire through Google Form. The participants were who have joined English Club. Based on the result showed there were two members of English Club that have already responded the questionnaire through Google Form. There were 20 items that students’ have chosen the questionnaire according to their perceptions about Mind Vector application. In the process of it, there was 1 student used Mind Vector many times in a day and another student used Mind Vector several times in a week the questionnaire had responded from two students that had different perception 1 student disagreed with Easy to access and arrange idea and Mind Vector application is my first choice in active of managing idea and thinking about the connection each idea that I have made on the application overall, 2 students had agreed with statement items that meant pupils at SMP N 14 who have joined contented about mind mapping, in different circumstance students Mind Vector application could be assisted them in managing ideas on that application Keywords: Mind Vector, Students’ Perception, Speaking Skill

Abstract

Teachers have an important role in creating a supportive environment in English lessons and should encourage students to participate actively. Appropriate teaching strategies can be employed to encourage student participation in the English classroom. This study was conducted to investigate strategies used by the teachers to encourage students’ participation in the English classroom at SMPN 01 Sungai Raya. The researcher employed a case study methodology, utilizing observation, interview, and document analysis as data collection methods to identify the strategy used by English teachers to encourage student participation. Based on the findings from observation, interview, and document analysis, it can be concluded that English teachers employed various strategies to encourage student participation in the classroom, such as questioning strategy, collaborative learning, motivational learning, and differentiation learning.
