Abstract

The transformation of education in the digital era requires mastery of 21st-century competencies, along with computational thinking and reading literacy skills that support each other. However, the reading comprehension ability of elementary school students in Indonesia remains relatively low, particularly in understanding complex informational texts. This study aims to analyze the effect of the Computational Thinking (CT) approach based on Problem-Based Learning (PBL) on fifth-grade elementary students’ ability to comprehend informational texts. The study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design consisting of two groups: an experimental group using the CT-based PBL approach and a control group taught through conventional methods. Data were collected through reading comprehension tests covering literal, inferential, and critical aspects, and analyzed using t-tests and effect size calculations. The results revealed a significant difference between the two groups, with the experimental group showing greater improvement, especially in inferential and critical comprehension. These findings confirm that integrating CT into the PBL model can be utilized to enhance reading literacy and systematic thinking skills. From an instructional innovation perspective, this approach can serve as an innovative alternative to equip students with the necessary competencies to face the challenges of 21st-century learning.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the contribution of the “7 Habits of Great Indonesian Children” program in shaping positive character values among elementary school students. The research employed a literature review approach by analyzing 15 national scientific articles published between 2021 and 2025. The review focused on synthesizing empirical and theoretical findings related to the implementation of positive habits in both school and family environments. The results indicate that the seven key habits waking up early, worshiping, exercising, eating healthy, enjoying learning, engaging with the community, and sleeping early are proven effective in developing students’ discipline, responsibility, religiosity, and social awareness. The success of the program is largely determined by teachers’ role modeling, parental involvement, and a supportive school culture that continuously reinforces positive behavior. However, several challenges remain, including excessive gadget use, inconsistent implementation at home, and limited character monitoring outside of school. Therefore, a strong collaboration between schools, families, and communities is essential to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of the program. Overall, the findings highlight that the 7 Habits of Great Indonesian Children Movement serves as a relevant and practical strategy for character education that aligns with the vision of the Profil Pelajar Pancasila (Pancasila Student Profile) fostering learners who are faithful, independent, disciplined, and morally upright.

Abstract

Critical thinking and creativity are two essential 21st-century competencies that must be developed from the elementary school level. However, learning practices in many schools still tend to focus on academic outcomes and provide limited opportunities for students to experiment and innovate. This article aims to examine the role of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) in enhancing elementary school students’ creativity and critical thinking skills through a literature review approach. The study utilizes various national and international academic references published between 2015 and 2025 that are relevant to the theories, implementation, and empirical findings of PjBL. The analysis is conducted descriptively by reviewing and comparing previous studies based on key thematic areas. The results indicate that PjBL effectively creates a student-centered learning environment that promotes collaboration, inquiry, reflection, and contextual problem-solving skills, all of which contribute significantly to improving students’ creativity and critical thinking. Therefore, the application of PjBL aligns with the principles of 21st-century learning and supports the Merdeka Belajar (Freedom to Learn) policy, which emphasizes student independence and active learning. Future research is recommended to explore the effectiveness of technology-based and collaborative PjBL implementation within the context of elementary education.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the critical thinking skills of third-grade students at Ngadikusuman 1 Elementary School through the application of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model combined with Augmented Reality (AR)-based flashcards in Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) lessons. This research was prompted by the low critical thinking skills of students as seen from the pre-cycle results, where most students were unable to analyse information, connect concepts, or conclude data accurately in accordance with critical thinking skill indicators. This research used a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles, with 39 third-grade students as subjects. Each cycle went through the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data were obtained through HOTS-type written tests designed based on five main indicators of critical thinking skills, namely the ability to analyse, synthesise, solve problems, conclude, and evaluate. The results showed a significant increase in the students' average scores. In the pre-cycle stage, the average critical thinking skills score was 51.15, then increased to 68.74 in cycle I, and reached 82.42 in cycle II. In addition, the percentage of classical mastery also increased to 82% at the end of the action. These findings indicate that the application of the AR-based flashcard-assisted PjBL model is effective in creating more meaningful and interactive learning experiences that encourage students to think more critically. Thus, this model can be used as an alternative learning strategy in efforts to improve the quality of the learning process and outcomes for primary school students.
