Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop a critical reasoning and independent character instrument on the topic of human blood circulation. The method used was research and development (R&D) with a 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate). The results showed that the validity value of the content of critical reasoning instruments obtained a final value of 0.97, while independent instruments obtained a value of 1, which was perfect. Judging from empirical validity, vital and independent reasoning instruments were declared valid because they had a value above 0.355 from 31 students tested. Critical and independent reasoning instruments were declared reliable. The Alpha Cronbach value >0.70 had good distinguishing power because the value of the Corrected Item-Total Correlation did not exceed the Alpha Cronbach value. Developing assessment instruments for a critical and independent character in human blood circulation for fifth-grade elementary students was successful, demonstrating high validity and reliability, and held the significant potential to enhance science education through technology integration.

Abstract

Academic supervision conducted by school supervisors is fundamentally intended to improve the quality of learning and teacher professionalism; however, in practice, it is still dominated by administrative and evaluative approaches, making it less optimal as a professional learning mechanism. This study aims to examine the implementation of Education Report-based academic supervision in strengthening the quality of the learning process in primary schools, identify existing research gaps, and formulate directions for more effective supervision development. The study employs a qualitative approach using a literature review method combined with gap analysis of various national and international studies. The findings indicate that academic supervision has significant potential to enhance learning quality when implemented systematically, collaboratively, and reflectively; however, a gap remains between its ideal conceptual framework and its practical implementation. Furthermore, the integration of data in supervision practices is still limited due to low data literacy and insufficient institutional support. Therefore, a transformative data-driven academic supervision model is needed, integrating teacher professional development, pedagogical reflection, and evidence-based decision making grounded in the Education Report.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe elementary school students’ mathematical problem-solving abilities based on Polya’s problem-solving stages across different problem types (LOTS and HOTS) and school contexts. A descriptive quantitative design was employed involving 95 fourth-grade students from six elementary schools. Data were collected through a mathematical problem-solving test consisting of five essay questions developed according to Polya’s four stages: understanding the problem, devising a plan, carrying out the plan, and looking back. The results showed that students achieved the highest performance in the plan stage (63.68%), followed by understanding the problem (60.05%), while lower achievement was observed in devising a plan (40.11%) and looking back (37.63%). The overall average problem-solving achievement was 50.37%. A comparison between LOTS and HOTS problems revealed that students consistently performed better on LOTS tasks across all Polya stages, whereas HOTS tasks presented substantial difficulties, particularly in planning solution strategies and evaluating answers. These findings indicate that procedural skills still dominate students’ mathematical problem-solving abilities, while strategic reasoning and reflective thinking remain underdeveloped. The study highlights the importance of instructional practices that explicitly support all stages of Polya’s framework through problem-based learning, mathematical justification, guided reflection, and differentiated instruction, thereby strengthening students’ problem-solving abilities.

Abstract

Background: Peak height velocity (PHV) is a key indicator of biological maturity in youth athletes, strongly influencing neuromuscular development and physical performance. While PHV has been widely studied in sports science, its association with speed and agility in pencak silat—an Indonesian martial art that relies heavily on explosive movements and motor coordination—remains underexplored. Research Objectives: This study aimed to examine the association between PHV, speed, and agility in young pencak silat athletes and to discuss implications for maturity-based training programs. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 53 athletes (21 males, 32 females; aged 11–15 years) from the Al Ghozaliyah Pencak Silat Training Center. PHV was estimated using the Mirwald equation from anthropometric measurements. Speed was assessed via a 20 m sprint test, and agility using the Illinois Agility Test. Pearson correlation and independent t-tests were performed to analyze associations and sex-based differences. Finding/Results: PHV showed a significant negative correlation with agility (r = –0.356, p = 0.009) and sprint speed (r = –0.341, p = 0.013), indicating that athletes past PHV performed better. A strong positive correlation was also found between agility and speed (r = 0.509, p < 0.001). Male athletes demonstrated superior sprint performance (p = 0.021), while females recorded slower agility times (p = 0.018). Conclusion: Biological maturity, as reflected by PHV, plays a significant role in shaping speed and agility in young pencak silat athletes. Training programs should therefore be individualized based on maturation status rather than chronological age, with emphasis on neuromuscular development during and after PHV to maximize performance potential and reduce injury risk. Future research should employ longitudinal designs with larger, multi-center samples and explore PHV’s influence on technical–tactical performance and the potential role of bio-banding in martial arts competitions.

Abstract

This research to determine the relationship between gadget use at home and the disciplinary attitudes of elementary school students in the school environment. The research used a quantitative approach with a correlational research type. The research population was third-grade students of Margajaya 2 Elementary School and their parents in the 2025/2026 academic year. Data were collected using two types of questionnaires, namely a gadget use questionnaire filled out by parents and a discipline attitude questionnaire filled out by students. Before the correlation test was carried out, the data were first tested for normality using Shapiro-Wilk. The results of the normality test showed that the data were not normally distributed (Sig. <0.05), so the correlation analysis was carried out using the Spearman Rank correlation test. The results showed a correlation coefficient of 0.121 with a significance value of 0.538 (p>0.05). These results indicate that the relationship between gadget use at home and students' disciplinary attitudes is in the very low and insignificant category. Thus, it can be concluded that there is no significant relationship between gadget use at home and students' disciplinary attitudes at school. It is thought that students' disciplinary attitudes are more influenced by other factors such as parenting patterns, family environment, learning habits, and the role of teachers at school.
