Abstract

This study investigates the discourse of hisab and rukyat within masāʾil fiqhiyyah education by comparatively examining the perspectives of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah figures in East Java regarding the determination of the beginning of the Qamariyah month, particularly Shawwal. The research aims to analyze the ontological foundations, interpretative paradigms, and practical implications of both approaches in responding to contemporary developments in astronomy. This study employs a descriptive-comparative method with an astronomical-fiqh–fiqh approach. Primary data were obtained through in-depth interviews with NU and Muhammadiyah scholars in East Java. In contrast, secondary data were collected from organizational decrees, classical and contemporary fiqh texts, astronomical calculations, and relevant literature. The research was conducted in several regions of East Java. Data were collected through interviews, documentation, and literature review, and analyzed using qualitative comparative analysis supported by astronomical interpretation. The findings reveal that NU scholars predominantly prioritize ru’yah al-hilal supported by hisab. In contrast, Muhammadiyah scholars determine the Qamariyah month based on hisab with the wujud al-hilal criterion. The differences arise mainly from divergent interpretations of syar’i texts and outdated visibility criteria that are no longer consistent with modern astronomical science. Despite these differences, the study identifies the potential for reconciliation through the harmonization of criteria rather than the dichotomy of methods. The study concludes that integrating astronomical accuracy with fiqh interpretation is essential to resolving recurring polemics and strengthening rational Islamic legal discourse.

Abstract

The global environmental crisis demands a strategic role for education in building sustainable ecological awareness, including thru Islamic religious education that is oriented toward moral values and environmental ethics. This research aims to examine the concept of Ecomadrasah as an integrative model that combines Islamic religious education with environmental awareness to develop students who are both religious and concerned about environmental sustainability. This study employs a library research approach, analyzing various scientific articles, academic books, policy documents, and relevant previous research findings related to Islamic religious education and environmental education. Data were analyzed using content analysis techniques to identify concepts, patterns, and the implications of implementing Ecomadrasah in the context of madrasah education. The study results indicate that integrating Islamic values such as trust (amanah), balance (mizan), and the prohibition of causing damage on earth (fasad) into the Islamic religious education curriculum can increase students' ecological awareness. The implementation of Ecomadrasah, including thru P5RA, encourages the formation of environmentally friendly behavior thru greening activities, waste management, climate change education, and environmental-based entrepreneurship. This research concludes that Ecomadrasah has significant potential as a contextual and relevant model of Islamic education in supporting sustainable development, although it still faces challenges in terms of supervision and public acceptance.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of the Jigsaw cooperative learning model on students’ learning outcomes in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at the elementary school level. The study employed a quantitative pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest–posttest approach. The sample consisted of 24 fourth-grade students selected through total sampling. Data were collected using a 20-item multiple-choice achievement test that had been validated through expert judgement and empirical testing. The instrument demonstrated high reliability with a Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient of 0.82. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, The Shapiro–Wilk normality test, the paired sample t-test, effect size (Cohen’s d), and normalised gain (N-Gain). The results showed a significant improvement in students’ learning outcomes, with the mean score increasing from 68.75 (SD = 7.11) in the pretest to 89.17 (SD = 7.76) in the posttest. The paired sample t-test revealed a statistically significant difference, t(23) = 9.60, p < .001. The effect size was enormous (Cohen’s d = 1.96), indicating a strong practical impact of the intervention. Furthermore, the N-Gain score was 0.65, categorised as moderate-to-high improvement. These findings indicate that the Jigsaw cooperative learning model significantly and practically enhances students’ cognitive learning outcomes and supports the implementation of student-centred learning in elementary Islamic Religious Education.

Abstract

Inventory management of school facilities is an essential part of asset management to ensure the availability, condition, and effective use of items. However, manual inventory recording often leads to data inaccuracies, difficulties in tracking, and consumes a significant amount of time and effort. Therefore, this study aims to design and develop a mobile application based on Android to assist the inventory management process of school facilities more efficiently and accurately by utilizing QR Code technology. The application is developed using Java/Kotlin programming language and Android Studio framework, with SQLite used for local data storage and PHP-MySQL for data synchronization to the server when connected to the internet. The main features include inventory data input, QR Code generation and printing, QR Code scanning for item tracking, item condition updates, and damaged or repair-needed item reporting. The system is also equipped with user authentication to ensure that only administrators have access to the data. The testing results show that the application runs well on Android devices and is capable of managing inventory data more quickly and accurately compared to manual methods. The integration of QR Codes facilitates instant item identification through scanning, thereby accelerating the recording and checking processes. Thus, this application is expected to be a practical and efficient solution for inventory management in school environments.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine how changing the volume percentage of sisal fiber and mahogany wood powder composites can improve their mechanical qualities. The hand lay-up method was used to create composites with a set resin volume fraction of 50% and varying volume fractions of sisal fiber and mahogany sawdust (30%:20%, 35%:15%, 40%:10%, 45%:5%, and 50%:0%). The tensile test (ASTM D638), bending test (ASTM D790), and impact test (ISO 179-1) were among the tests. According to the results, the best impact toughness (70.34 KJ/mm²) was achieved with a combination of 45% fiber and 5% powder. The composition with the maximum tensile strength (23.36 MPa), strain (0.041%), and elastic modulus (574.20 Pa) was 40% fiber and 10% powder; the composition with the highest bending strength (124.50 N/mm²) was 50% fiber and 0% powder. The best composition from the impact test—45% fiber and 5% powder—is used in this study's rearview mirror cover product.

Abstract

The increasing accumulation of Styrofoam waste has become a serious environmental concern due to its non-biodegradable properties and the lack of effective disposal and recycling pathways. Micro- and small-scale enterprises play a strategic role in addressing this issue at the local level, including UD Tiga Putra in Gresik, Indonesia, which is actively involved in Styrofoam waste processing. Before the implementation of this community engagement program, the enterprise encountered several operational challenges, such as the use of outdated processing equipment, limited production capacity, and inadequate managerial and occupational safety practices. In particular, the existing Styrofoam melting machine, with a capacity of 150 kg per day, frequently experienced technical failures and resulted in recycled products of inconsistent quality. To address these constraints, a community partnership program was developed by integrating technological upgrading, occupational health and safety improvement, and managerial capacity strengthening. A newly designed appropriate-technology Styrofoam melting machine with a capacity of 300 kg per day was introduced, leading to a substantial increase in production efficiency and operational stability. This technological enhancement was complemented by structured training on workplace safety, including the proper use of fire extinguishers and personal protective equipment, as well as mentoring on systematic financial record-keeping practices. The program outcomes indicate improved operational reliability, enhanced safety awareness among workers, and greater financial transparency. Overall, the findings demonstrate that an integrated, community-based approach can effectively enhance the resilience and competitiveness of small recycling enterprises while supporting circular economy initiatives and sustainable local economic development.
