Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to design and validate PowerPoint slide-based learning media for the subject of Shorof (Arabic morphology) and to determine its suitability and effectiveness for class VIII students at Darul Hikmah Islamic Junior High School Syekh Ciliwulung Serang, Banten. Design/methods/approach – A research and development approach organized by the ADDIE cycle guided iterative specification, expert validation, revision, and classroom trial. The population comprised 99 Grade VIII students; a purposive sample of 33 students (IPS-1) participated in a limited trial. Instruments included expert review rubrics, pre/post assessments aligned to derivational patterns, affixation, and morphophonemic adjustment, and structured observation/interview protocols. Descriptive statistics, normalized gain, and paired comparisons were used to analyze learning outcomes and feasibility evidence. Findings – Expert feasibility was very high—94% for content and 98% for media—indicating strong curricular alignment, linguistic clarity, and classroom usability. Mean scores improved from 77.8 (pre-test) to 94.8 (post-test), yielding an absolute gain of +17.0 points, a relative increase of +21.9%, and a normalized gain of g = 0.77 (high). Mastery (≥ 75) rose from 63.6% (21/33) to 100% (33/33). Inferentially, the mean paired difference was +17.12 with t = 11.60, p < 0.001, 95% CI [14.11, 20.13], and a large effect size (d = 2.02). The results suggest that visually coherent, interactive, and procedurally explicit slides clarify tashrīf operations and support universal attainment. Research implications – The validated slide package and accompanying implementation workflow offer a practical pathway for modernizing lower-secondary Shorof instruction through structured multimedia and routine formative checks. For scaled adoption, schools should pair the slides with teacher guidance, fidelity monitoring, and accessibility-oriented refinements. Future research should employ controlled or quasi-experimental, multi-site designs with delayed post-tests for retention/transfer, expanded psychometric reporting, and cost–fidelity analyses, and compare blended, flipped, and AR-augmented variants to optimize impact across contexts.

Abstract

Javanese script, known as Aksara Jawa, is an ancient script used in historical and cultural texts. However, its complex character structure poses challenges for accurate recognition in modern digital applications. This study proposes an optimized classification approach for Aksara Jawa using a fine-tuned ResNet-18 model combined with the Adam optimization algorithm and transfer learning on the Hanacaraka image dataset. By leveraging the residual learning framework of ResNet-18, the model effectively captures deep spatial features of the script while reducing vanishing gradient issues. Fine-tuning is applied to enhance model adaptability, ensuring robust feature extraction specific to Javanese characters. Experimental results demonstrate that the fine-tuned ResNet-18 outperforms conventional deep learning architectures in recognizing Aksara Jawa characters, achieving 93% precision, 91% recall, 91% F1-score, and 91% accuracy. The study further explores the impact of hyperparameter tuning, data augmentation, and dropout regularization on model performance. The findings highlight the effectiveness of transfer learning in resource-limited scenarios, making it a feasible solution for optical character recognition (OCR) applications in Javanese script digitization. This research contributes to the preservation of cultural heritage through advancements in deep learning-based script recognition.

Abstract

Wordwall affected students' mastery of Arabic sentence structure at MTs Negeri 2 Kota Serang, particularly in terms of the number of ismiyyah and fi'liyah. This study not only measured the effect of Wordwall but also examined how to optimize its use by integrating appropriate game types and feedback features to enhance students’ mastery of ismiyyah and fi‘liyah sentence structures. Traditional teaching methods and the lack of interactive digital media resulted in low syntactic ability among students, which motivated this study. Wordwall, a game-based learning platform, is considered to be able to increase student engagement and understanding through visual and audio activities and instant feedback. A quantitative method with a One Group Pretest-Posttest quasi-experimental design was used in this study. The research sample consisted of 32 students. The tools used included learning outcome tests and perception questionnaires, which had been tested for validity and reliability using the SPSS program. The results showed a significant increase in the mastery of Arabic sentence structure, with an average pretest score of 53.66 and a posttest score of 93.25, and a paired sample t-test showed a significance value of p = 0.000. On the other hand, Cohen's effect size of 3.66 indicated a very large practical effect. The high survey results show that students' perceptions of the use of Wordwall are also positive. Based on the research that has been conducted, Wordwall can be used as a digital learning tool in madrasahs and has a significant impact on students' mastery of Arabic sentence structure.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and This study uses a quantitative approach with a comparative associative survey method and involves 100 respondents (50 Gen Z and 50 Millennials) who are domiciled in Indonesia and have investment experience, with a purposive sampling technique . comparing investment policies between Generation Z and Millennials in Indonesia. These two demographic groups are "Digital Natives" who are familiar with the development of information technology and investment applications. Primary data were collected through an online questionnaire and analyzed using Multiple Linear Regression and Independent Sample t-test with the help of the SPSS program. The results of the regression analysis show that financial literacy (X1), investment knowledge (X2), and investment risk (X3) simultaneously and partially have a significant effect on investment policy (Y) in both generations. The coefficient of determination (R2) value of 0.652 indicates that 65.2% of the variation in investment policy can be explained by these three variables. The results of the comparative test ( Independent Sample t-test ) with a Sig. (2-tailed) value = 0.018 (<0.05) indicate a significant difference in investment policies between Generation Z and the Millennial Generation.Generation Z (born 1996–2010) tends to be more daring in taking risks and is quicker in adopting digital investment technologies such as applications (Bibit, Bareksa, Ajaib, IPOT), and chooses instruments with medium to high risk (stocks and digital assets). The Millennial generation (born 1981–1995) exhibits more conservative behavior , oriented towards the security and stability of assets , with a preference for relatively low-risk instruments such as mixed mutual funds, deposits, and blue-chip stocks. These findings reinforce Behavioral Finance theory , emphasizing the importance of individual understanding, experience, and risk perception in investment decision-making. The research's implications suggest the need for the government/OJK to expand digital financial literacy programs tailored to each generation, as well as the development of educational and secure features by securities firms.

Abstract

Despite growing global recognition of the pivotal role that the preschool-to-primary transition plays in children's long-term academic and social trajectories, the multi-dimensional nature of school readiness remains insufficiently synthesized across diverse educational contexts. This study aimed to systematically assess the indicators of school readiness during the preschool-to-primary school transition and to identify the ecological, socio-emotional, cognitive, and institutional factors that collectively determine transition quality. A systematic review methodology guided by the PRISMA 2020 framework was employed, drawing on searches across five major databases Scopus, Web of Science, ERIC, PsycINFO, and Google Scholar—covering publications from 2015 to 2024; following two-stage screening and quality appraisal using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool and Cohen's kappa inter-rater reliability (κ = 0.84), 35 peer-reviewed studies from 17 countries were retained for narrative synthesis supplemented by meta-analytic sub-synthesis where methodological homogeneity permitted. Findings revealed that school readiness is a multi-dimensional construct in which executive function and socio-emotional regulation consistently produced larger effect sizes (d = 0.38–0.82) than conventional academic skill measures, while parental involvement, family-school connectivity, and cross-institutional teacher collaboration emerged as significant ecological predictors of transition quality independent of child-level characteristics. Future research should prioritize longitudinal multi-wave designs spanning the full preschool-to-primary arc, intervention studies evaluating cross-institutional professional development programs, and contextually grounded investigations within Indonesian and Southeast Asian settings where the empirical evidence base remains critically underdeveloped.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the motor vehicle tax amnesty program at the Sumber Tax Office (SAMSAT), Cirebon Regency, West Java Province. In the context of regional autonomy, motor vehicle tax (PKB) serves as a crucial source of revenue to support infrastructure development and public services. The tax amnesty program, known as the tax amnesty, is designed to increase taxpayer compliance by eliminating fines for delinquent vehicle owners. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, allowing researchers to deeply understand the dynamics and factors influencing the implementation of this policy. The results indicate that the tax amnesty program has successfully increased the number of taxpayers paying their arrears and provided an opportunity for the public to fulfill their tax obligations without the burden of fines. However, challenges such as a lack of equitable information and economic variations that affect payment ability remain obstacles. This study also identifies the importance of public outreach and education to raise awareness of tax obligations. Recommendations include the need to increase training for SAMSAT officers to improve service and communication quality, and to strengthen outreach strategies to ensure information about the amnesty program is accessible to all levels of society. Thus, the tax amnesty program is expected to contribute positively to tax compliance and local revenue in Cirebon Regency. Keywords: Implementation of the program, Vehicle tax amnesty, West Java

Abstract

Purpose – Scientific thinking in early childhood remains understudied in non-Western contexts, with many existing models derived from Western samples and limited to two or three dimensions. This study examines a six-dimensional hierarchical framework proposing that domain-general cognitive capacities (Attention & Focus, Working Memory, Problem Solving) support domain-specific scientific competencies (Observation Skills, Prediction & Reasoning, Experimentation) in Indonesian preschoolers aged 4–6 years. Age-related patterns, gender differences, and institutional-type differences are also investigated.Design/methods/approach – Using a quantitative cross-sectional design, data were collected from 105 children (4–6 years) enrolled in secular and Islamic early childhood education institutions in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Scientific thinking was assessed using the Scientific Thinking Assessment for Early Childhood (STAEC), a 25-item teacher-rated instrument developed through expert review and pilot testing with 30 teachers. Analyses included descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, Pearson correlations, ANOVAs, and t-tests to evaluate interdimensional relationships and group differences.Findings – Results provided initial cross-sectional evidence consistent with a six-dimensional hierarchical organization of early scientific thinking. Domain-general capacities were strongly intercorrelated (r = .796–.831) and showed higher mean scores than domain-specific competencies, suggesting a foundational role. Working memory displayed the strongest associations with advanced competencies, particularly prediction & reasoning and experimentation. A significant age-related difference emerged only for observation skills, whereas other dimensions showed non-significant developmental trends. No gender differences were observed across any dimension, and no differences emerged across secular and Islamic institution types.Research implications/limitations – The cross-sectional design limits developmental and causal inferences. Teacher ratings may introduce rater bias and do not capture moment-to-moment reasoning processes. The single-region sample constrains generalizability; future research should use longitudinal, larger, multi-region, and multi-method designs.Practical implications – Early childhood programs should strengthen foundational cognitive capacities while providing explicit, developmentally appropriate support for prediction and experimentation, and maintain equal learning expectations across genders and educational settings.Originality/value – This study offers initial empirical support for a multidimensional hierarchical model of early scientific thinking in a non-Western context, including secular and Islamic early childhood education settings.Paper type Research paper
