Abstract

This study aims to describe the structure, syntactic function, and semantic role of the nominal clause in JawaPos.com news texts published in August 2025. By using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study applied syntactic analysis to explore how the nominal clause operates within the linguistic and contextual framework of media discourse. Data were collected from online news articles and analyzed using Indonesian syntactic and semantic theory. The results show that nominal clauses play a crucial role in constructing discourse structure and meaning through their syntactic functions as subjects, objects, complements, and adverbs. In semantics, nominal clauses perform various roles, including as agents, objects, recipients, and markers of condition or location. The pattern of nominal clause use reflects the concise, efficient, and communicative nature of journalistic language. The correlation between syntactic function and semantic role shows a cohesive relationship that enhances clarity and accuracy in conveying information. This study contributes to the development of syntactic and media linguistic research and serves as a valuable reference for journalists and language educators in promoting effective and ethical language use in journalism.

Abstract

Coordinating conjunctions are conjunctions that function to connect two language units that have the same or equal status, while subordinating conjunctions are conjunctions that connect two language units that do not have the same or equal status. News text is a text that contains information about factual and actual events that are still hotly discussed by the public. This study aims to analyze the use of coordinating and subordinating conjunctions in news articles published by Kompas in September 2025. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method, with observation and note taking techniques applied to analyze conjunctions based on their types and functions. The results show that coordinating conjunctions such as (and, or, but, however) and subordinating conjunctions such as (because, so that, after, until, if) are used to construct coherent, logical, and easily understood sentences. The appropriate use of conjunctions supports the effective delivery of information and enhances the reader's comprehension of the news content. This research is expected to serve as a reference for readers or future researchers who wish to examine linguistic phenomena in online news texts using a similar approach.

Abstract

This study aims to describe representative speech acts in a video with the theme of in-depth learning design on the Diklat Online YouTube Channel. The background of this study is rooted in the important role of language in social interaction and the importance of speech acts as one aspect in pragmatic studies. In the realm of digital media, people see YouTube as the right platform to analyze speech acts because it is able to facilitate interactions between speakers and interlocutors through its videos. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with the main data sources in the form of three podcast videos from the Diklat Online channel, August 2025 edition. Data were obtained through listening and note-taking techniques, then analyzed using the pragmatic equivalent method to classify the forms of representative speech acts. The results of the study found 33 representative speech act data divided into nine categories, namely stating (9), suggesting (3), demanding (3), showing (2), informing (8), mentioning (3), explaining (2), speculating (1), and giving examples (2). Of all, the speech act "stating" emerged as the most dominant type. The research conclusion confirms that representative speech acts have an important role in strengthening the validity of knowledge, supporting message clarity, and building a communicative, reflective, and meaningful learning atmosphere for the audience, thus making a real contribution to the effectiveness of educational communication in digital media.

Abstract

The analysis of locutionary speech acts is a pragmatic study that can reveal the role of digital communication in the learning process, particularly in educational videos such as the Positive Psychology Class on the YouTube channel Garvin Goei. Within this video, there are various forms of utterances, such as declarative, interrogative, and imperative, which serve to convey information clearly and build understanding among viewers. The accurate formulation of locutionary utterances will also influence the effectiveness of online learning, necessitating an in-depth analysis to assess their quality. The objective of this research is to identify the forms and functions of locutionary speech acts present in the video, which can subsequently be used as a reference in designing educational content. Good quality locutionary speech acts will impact learners' comprehension and interaction abilities in a distance learning context. The methodology employed is a descriptive qualitative approach, beginning with data collection through observation and note-taking techniques on the Garvin Goei YouTube video. The observation technique involves reading and observing the entire video content, while the note-taking technique includes recording locutionary utterances and re-verifying the obtained findings. After conducting the analysis, 606 data points of locutionary speech acts were obtained, with a dominance of declarative sentences (213), interrogative (145), and imperative (88), indicating variations in sentence structure and the use of conjunctions. The quality of these utterances is evaluated based on clarity of meaning, pragmatic function, and level of complexity. The results of this research are expected to serve as a reference for teaching materials and provide deeper insights into the influence of locutionary speech acts on the quality of digital educational communication.

This study aims to (1) identify assertive speech actions in the "Pragmatic" playlist video on the Virtual Campus YouTube channel, and (2) explain the intent of the speech functions. The research method uses a qualitative descriptive approach with pragmatic theory, especially the act of assertive illocution. Data is collected through the technique of watching and recording by watching, transcribing, analyzing, classifying, and identifying speech. Analysis was carried out on six videos in the playlist, with the results finding 96 data on assertive speech actions.
