Abstract

This study was motivated by the low science learning outcomes of fourth-grade students at SDN 16 Air Tawar Timur, Padang City, which were caused by teacher-centered instruction and the limited use of interactive learning media. This study aimed to improve students' science learning outcomes through the Problem Based Learning model assisted by Wordwall. This research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) using qualitative and quantitative approaches and was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were the classroom teacher and 26 fourth-grade students of SDN 16 Air Tawar Timur, Padang City. The research instruments included observation sheets, tests, and non-test instruments. The results showed that the lesson plan assessment increased from 80.36% to 96.43%. Teacher activity improved from 82.14% to 96.43%, while student activity increased from 80.36% to 96.43%. The average student learning outcomes improved from 56.11 in Cycle I Meeting 1 to 79.50 in Cycle I Meeting 2 and reached 92.75 in Cycle II. Therefore, the implementation of the Problem Based Learning model assisted by Wordwall was able to improve students' science learning outcomes in the fourth grade of SDN 16 Air Tawar Timur, Padang City.

Abstract

This research uses a Classroom Action Research (PTK) approach with mixed methods that combines qualitative and quantitative elements. Each cycle consists of planning, implementation, observation and reflection stages. This research involved teachers and 15 class IV students 6 boys and 9 girls at UPT SDN 03 Airpura in the 2026/2027 academic year. Data collection includes assessment of teaching modules, observation of teacher and student activities, as well as assessment of student attitudes, knowledge and skills. Data is collected through observation, tests and documentation. The research results indicate that student learning outcomes in Social Studies (IPS) improved from Cycle I to Cycle II. In the planning stage, the teaching module assessment score rose from 84.72% (Good) in Cycle I to 96.53% (Very Good) in Cycle II. In the implementation stage, teacher-related aspects improved from 82.14% (Good) in Cycle I to 95.83% (Very Good) in Cycle II. Student learning outcomes also showed improvement: the score for the attitude aspect rose from an average of 79.33 (Good) to 92.67 (Very Good); the score for the knowledge aspect increased from an average of 74.67 to 89.33; and the score for the skills aspect rose from an average of 76.00 to 91.33. Thus, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model can improve the Social Studies learning outcomes of fourth-grade students at UPT SDN 03 Airpura.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low learning outcomes of fourth-grade students in Natural and Social Science (IPAS) learning at SDN 03 Patamuan, Padang Pariaman Regency, caused by teacher-centered instruction dominated by the lecture method, which left students passive, minimally engaged in critical thinking and problem solving, and low in interaction and learning motivation. This study aims to describe the planning, implementation, and learning outcomes of students in IPAS learning using the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by the Baamboozle interactive media. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) using a qualitative and quantitative approach, conducted in two cycles (Cycle I with two meetings, Cycle II with one meeting) following the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 24 fourth-grade students of SDN 03 Patamuan. Data were collected through observation sheets and evaluation tests. The results showed consistent improvement in every aspect: the lesson-plan (modul ajar) assessment increased from 79.17% to 95.83%; teacher activity from 82.14% to 92.86%; student activity from 82.14% to 92.86%; the affective aspect from 62.50 to 82.29; the psychomotor aspect from 59.03 to 87.85; and the cognitive aspect from 65.83 (41.7% reaching the learning-objective criterion) to 83.79 (83.3% reaching the criterion). It can be concluded that the application of the Problem Based Learning model assisted by the Baamboozle interactive media effectively improves fourth-grade students' learning outcomes in IPAS.

Abstract

Learning motivation may support students’ engagement in complex cognitive activities, yet the higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) of fifth-grade students at SDN 18 Sungai Tarab remained below expectations. This study examined the direction and strength of the association between learning motivation and HOTS in science learning. A quantitative correlational design was applied to 48 students from classes VA and VB, selected purposively from a population of 71 fifth-grade students. Motivation data were obtained through a Likert questionnaire, while HOTS was measured using 15 multiple-choice questions and one essay question covering analysis, evaluation, and creation. The instruments underwent expert review and field testing. Data were processed descriptively and analyzed using Pearson’s product-moment correlation in SPSS 27. The coefficients were 0.453 for class VA, indicating a moderate positive relationship, and 0.918 for class VB, indicating a very strong positive relationship; both outputs were reported at p < 0.05. Teachers’ observations produced an average achievement score of 85.5%, supporting the motivation data. These findings indicate that stronger learning motivation tends to occur alongside better HOTS performance in science learning. The results should be interpreted within the study’s limited, cross-sectional sample.
