Abstract

Small-scale goat farmers play a vital role in supplying animal protein in Indonesia but continue to face challenges in improving productivity and livelihood, particularly due to suboptimal reproductive and health management of their livestock. This study aims to assess the impact of improved reproductive and health management practices on the welfare of smallholder goat farmers. The methods employed included technical training, field mentoring, and evaluation of animal health conditions before and after intervention. The results showed that implementing proper reproductive management—such as heat cycle tracking, selection of superior bucks, and systematic disease prevention and treatment—led to increased birth rates and decreased kid mortality. Consequently, farmers’ income rose by an average of 25% within one production cycle. This study highlights the importance of an integrated approach to reproductive and health management as an effective strategy to sustainably enhance smallholder farmers’ welfare.

Abstract

Background: Smoking behavior is an activity that can cause health problems for both smokers and people in their environment. The high prevalence of tobacco consumption has caused cigarette problems to become more serious. Increasing cigarette consumption results in a higher impact of diseases due to smoking and an increase in the death rate due to smoking, it is estimated that by 2030, the death rate of smokers in the world will reach 10 million people. Smokers in Indonesia in 2013 and 2018 remained at 24.3%, the age group of 20-24 years as the early adult group, in 2013 as much as 27.2% to 27.3% in 2018, meaning that the government's efforts to reduce the number of smokers have not been successful. To quit smoking, various ways can be done, such as counseling to change the knowledge, attitudes and actions of smokers, hypnotherapy and Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique (SEFT). SEFT therapy combines spiritual power and psychological energy, so the therapy results are amplified because it is accompanied by prayer. The principle of work is more or less the same as acupuncture and acupressure by stimulating key points along the body's 12 energy pathways (energy meridians). Objective: To analyze the average cigarette consumption before and after SEFT therapy. Method: Quasi-experimental research experiment with one group pretest-posttest design. The number of samples was 50 respondents by measuring the average amount of cigarette consumption after 7 days of therapy. Study results: The average number of cigarettes consumed after SEFT therapy decreased from 13.16 cigarettes to 5.28 cigarettes based on the Wilcoxon test, a ρ Value of 0.00 was produced. Conclusion: SEFT therapy can reduce the intensity of smoking consumption. Suggestion: Smokers who want to quit smoking can do it with the Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique (SEFT).

Abstract

Abstract

Kata Kunci:, komposisi sampah, rumah tangga, Kota Ternate  Abstract The population of Ternate City is 212,997 people, the area of 111.39 km2 with the density of 1,865.42 people/km2. If we use the paradigm approach of "waste as a useful item" then the amount of population as much as it produces the volume of waste that has the potential to be utilized and reprocessed. Related to the management and utilization of waste in Ternate City in the future, the position of waste is a potential. Description of potential waste should be started with the introduction of composition and waste generation, especially household waste. The composition description will provide information on the components contained in solid waste and its distribution. Waste generation provides information on the amount of household waste generated. Waste generation data is also required for the design of waste management systems, the selection of equipment types for waste transport and the design of landfills. Keywords: composition of waste, household, Ternate city

Abstract

Older adults with depression and insomnia had increased, which affected their quality of life. This study investigates the correlation between depression and insomnia in older adults and their quality of life (QoL). This study used a quantitative descriptive method with a cross-sectional approach among 215 older adults in Indonesia, utilizing the Geriatric Depression Scale Short Form, insomnia rating scale, and WHO-QoL Bref for QoL assessment. The study was using the Spearman Correlation Test and multiple linear regression. The results show that depression is unrelated to physical, psychological, social, or ecological QoL. Insomnia was related to QoL of physical health (r = 0.138, p = 0.04) and QoL of psychological health (r = 0.140, p = 0.03), but insomnia was not associated with QoL of social health (r = 0.120, p = 0.06) or environmental health (r = 0.05, p = 0.38). Furthermore, the regression hierarchy analysis found that insomnia was the most dominant variable affecting the QoL on physical health (β = 0.17). There is a notable correlation between rates of insomnia and physical and psychological QoL that has essential implications for the health status and well-being of older adults. This finding suggests that nursing intervention may be necessary to address sleep disorders among older persons.

Abstract

The seagrass meadow ecosystem along the coast of Tapulaga Village plays a crucial role in the nutrient cycle in the marine environment. The photosynthesis process transforms carbon dioxide into carbohydrates, which are stored in the tissues of seagrass, resulting in sucrose production. The availability and content of seagrass leaf litter trapped in fishermen's fish traps initiated a community service activity integrated with thematic real-work lectures (KKN). The focus of this activity is on fulfilling balanced nutrition, aiming to increase the interest of fishing families in consuming vegetables. The objective of the community service is to promote balanced nutrition by diversifying food consumption with various vegetables grown on their own land, using compost and organic fertilizer derived from seagrass leaf litter. The method used is the Takakura method, which involves composting organic waste using a composter with holes. Organic waste is placed in the composter and EM4 (decomposer bacteria) and molasses are added. Stirring is done daily to accelerate the waste decomposition process. Organic liquid fertilizer is produced by utilizing the liquid from the composter. The results show that vegetable plants grown in compost and treated with organic liquid fertilizer from seagrass leaf litter exhibit good growth and can be harvested on the 18th day. The use of seagrass leaf litter as a raw material for making compost and organic liquid fertilizer has a significant impact on vegetable plant growth. The community service activity had a positive effect on the fisherwomen, including their strong determination to apply this planting method at home and their increased interest in consuming vegetables as part of their daily meals.
