This study aims to determine the application and effect of handouts and Student Worksheets based on Posner’s conceptual change theory in reducing student misconceptions about energy material and the law of energy conservation. Posner’s conceptual change theory formulates four requirements for conceptual change to help students change their initial erroneous conceptions into scientific concepts. This research was conducted at MAN 1 Muaro Jambi in February 2025 using a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest research design. The instrument used was a five-tier diagnostic test to identify student misconceptions before and after treatment. The Shapiro-Wilk normality test showed that the data were not normally distributed, so the analysis used the nonparametric Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The study’s results showed a difference in the number of student misconceptions before and after treatment, marked by a decrease in the percentage of misconceptions by 21.63%. Based on Posner’s conceptual change theory, the statistical test results showed fewer misconceptions before and after treatment using handouts and student worksheets (z = -3.125). Thus, it can be concluded that using handouts and student worksheets based on Posner’s conceptual change theory reduces students’ misconceptions about energy and the law of energy conservation.

Students’ misconceptions about fraction concepts remain prevalent and significantly impact their mathematical understanding. The purpose of this study was to provide remediation to students who were identified as having misconceptions about fractions based on the results of a diagnostic pre-test using a five-tier instrument. Remediation of students' misconceptions was carried out through learning using conceptual change theory and scaffolding. To determine the impact of the intervention, a post-test diagnostic was conducted using the five-tier instrument. This study employed a mixed-methods approach through a convergent parallel design. The quantitative subjects consisted of 26 students, while the qualitative subjects comprised three students selected through purposive sampling. Qualitative data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that before remediation, the average scientific conception (correct answers) was low at 17.6%, and after remediation, it increased to 86.6%, representing an average increase of 69%. The findings indicate that integrating conceptual change theory with scaffolding is a promising strategy for addressing entrenched misconceptions in mathematics education.

The national education curriculum is concerned with character building. The development of media with character needs to be done to strengthen character and to help students understand the momentum and impulses concept. This study aims to (1) develop an interactive e-book and (2) describe the character and understanding of students’ concepts after using the e-book. The development model used Lee and Owens with the stages: analysis, design, development and implementation, and evaluation. An interactive e-book was prepared by combining character values in the content, discussion sheets, and online evaluation. The e-book product contains images, videos, text input functionality and can be accessed via a smartphone. Students can study matter, momentum, and impulses without the basis of space and time. The results of the study state: (1) interactive e-books are feasible and easy to use by students (2) e-books that provide character reinforcement and are effective in increasing understanding of concepts in 10% low categories to 60% high categories

This study investigates students' conceptual application errors in solving electrical circuit problems in inquiry-based learning. The research involved 32 physics education students from Jambi University (24 females and 8 males) using a mixed-methods approach with an explanatory design. Students completed two multiple-choice questions with reasoning, analyzed using effect size calculation, and coded the reasoning responses to assess conceptual application. The results revealed an effect size of 0.7, indicating a moderate impact of inquiry-based learning on conceptual application in problem-solving. Further analysis showed that correct answers did not always reflect accurate conceptual understanding. For example, in the first question, 62.5% of students selected option D, but not all provided conceptually correct reasoning. In the second question, only 37.5% answered correctly. These findings suggest the need for additional support, such as reflective sessions and scaffolding, to enhance students' conceptual understanding and critical thinking skills in problem-solving tasks.

Students' low numeracy skills in understanding integer concepts often lead to misconceptions that frequently undetected, as they are embedded within students' cognitive processes rather than solely visible in final answers. This study aims to detect students' misconceptions in integer topics by analyzing their thinking processes using Mason's framework, based on their numeracy levels. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, involving six seventh-grade students from class VII at MTsN 8 Muaro Jambi. The subjects were classified into three numeracy categories: high, medium, and low. Data were collected through think-aloud-based diagnostic tests, in-depth interviews, and observations during problem-solving sessions. Data were then analyzed using Mason’s stages of thinking. The results showed that all students experienced theoretical and correlational misconceptions, while classification misconceptions were found only among students with low numeracy levels. Most errors occurred in the attack and review stages. Mason’s thinking framework proved effective in systematically identifying the location and type of misconceptions and provides a foundation for designing more targeted and responsive numeracy-based instructional strategies.
