Abstract

This study aims to develop and assess the effectiveness of implementing a Telegram Bot-based Geography Dictionary in enhancing students' geographical literacy, specifically in understanding Lithosphere material. The method used was a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group, involving two groups: an experimental group that utilized the Telegram Bot as a learning medium and a control group that used PowerPoint as a medium. The research results indicate that the application of the Telegram Bot as an interactive learning medium significantly improved students' geographical literacy. In the pre-test, the experimental group obtained an average score of 59.11%, while the control group scored 58.63%. However, after the implementation of the Telegram Bot medium, the experimental group experienced a higher increase, with post-test scores reaching 76.56%, whereas the control group only recorded a score of 67.89%. An independent T-test revealed a significant difference between the two groups (p < 0.05), confirming that the use of the Telegram Bot had a greater impact on improving students' geographical literacy. Media validation results by material experts and media experts also showed that this medium is highly suitable for use in the geography learning process. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the Telegram Bot-based Geography Dictionary is an effective and viable medium for enhancing students' understanding of Lithosphere material and can be implemented in geography learning in secondary schools.

Abstract

Background and Aim: IPB D1 chicken is a crossbreed developed by crossing local Indonesian chickens-Pelung, Sentul, and Kampung-with commercial broilers. This crossbreeding initiative led by researchers from the Faculty of Animal Science at IPB University, aims to develop a meat-type chicken breed that is well adapted to traditional backyard farming systems commonly found in rural areas.Materials and Methods: The objective of this study was to evaluate the resistance of IPB D1 chickens carrying the Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) gene against Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis. A total of 11 chickens were used in this experiment. Detection of the TLR4 gene was conducted using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and sequencing techniques, followed by assessment of the chickens' immune response through total and differential leukocyte counts. Results: The results showed that IPB D1 chickens with the TLR4-positive genotypes (GG and AG) exhibited stronger immune responses and more stable leukocyte profiles compared to TLR4-negative chickens (AA genotype) following exposure to S. Enteritidis. These findings suggest that the TLR4 gene plays an important role in innate immunity and may enhance resistance to bacterial infection. Conclusion: Overall, this study highlights the potential of IPB D1 chickens as a resilient local breed suited for sustainable poultry farming, particularly in resource limited environments. Keywords: IPB D1 chickens, leukocyte profile, non-specific immune response, Salmonella Enteritidis, TLR4 gene

Abstract

IPB-D3 chickens possess strong adaptive potential that enhances immune system performance and resilience, making them promising candidates for developing superior local breeds. However, their health and welfare are largely influenced by rearing methods, and no data are currently available on this topic. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the immunocompetence index of IPB-D3 chickens under different rearing systems by measuring IgY concentrations. A total of 90 IPB-D3 chickens were reared for 12 weeks; 30 samples were taken from each of the intensive and free-range groups for analysis. The observed variables included the environmental temperature and humidity measured in the morning, afternoon, and evening, as well as the IgY concentrations analysed via indirect ELISA. Blood samples from male and female chickens were collected separately. The data were statistically analysed via an independent t test with SPSS version 26. This study revealed that the daytime temperature and humidity were significantly affected (p < 0.05) by the rearing system but not by the morning or evening. The IgY concentrations did not differ significantly (p > 0.05) between the intensive (10.23 µg/mL) and free-range (9.91 µg/mL) systems. In the intensive system, male chickens had an IgY level of 11.38 µg/mL, and female chickens had an IgY level of 9.16 µg/mL; in the free-range system, male chickens had an IgY level of 9.18 µg/mL, and female chickens had an IgY level of 10.64 µg/mL. These results indicate that neither the rearing system nor sex significantly influences the immune response. This study revealed that both male and female IPB-D3 chickens present high and stable IgY concentrations across different rearing systems, reflecting good immunocompetence and adaptability, thereby supporting their potential as superior lines.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Thalassemia is a genetically inherited blood disorder that is chronic and difficult to prevent, significantly affecting children’s quality of life physically, socially, and emotionally. Improving quality of life requires not only medical management such as regular transfusions but also positive parental support, including motivation, attention, and nondiscriminatory treatment compared to healthy children. Understanding parental support and interaction is essential for promoting optimal outcomes. Purpose: This study aimed to assess the level of parental support and interaction for children with thalassemia. Methods: A descriptive study was conducted with purposive sampling, including 75 parents of children with thalassemia. Data were collected using structured observation sheets to evaluate parental support and interaction levels, alongside demographic information such as age, sex, education, and occupation. Results: Most respondents were aged 46–55 years (46.7%), female (86.7%), with high school education (53.3%), and homemakers (66.7%). Findings showed that 92.0% of parents provided positive support, and 78.7% demonstrated high interaction with their children. Positive parental involvement was observed in emotional support, attention to health needs, and daily engagement. Conclusion: Parents of children with thalassemia play a crucial role in providing positive support and interaction, contributing to the child’s overall well-being and recovery. Although this study was limited to survey-based observation, it highlights the importance of parental involvement in managing chronic pediatric conditions. Future research using qualitative approaches is recommended to explore in-depth parental experiences and validate these findings.
