Abstract

Kata kunci: sekolah adiwiyata; pendidikan lingkungan; al-islam dan kemuhammadiyahan; pengabdian masyarakat AbstractIncreasing environmental degradation demands the strategic role of education in fostering environmental awareness and pro-environmental behavior. The Adiwiyata School Program is a national policy aimed at developing environmentally oriented school cultures; however, its implementation in faith-based schools still faces challenges related to value literacy, stakeholder commitment, and administrative readiness. This article describes the implementation of a community service program based on strengthening Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan (AIK) values to support the readiness of SD Muhammadiyah Program Khusus Nogosari toward becoming an Adiwiyata School. The program was conducted from September to December 2025 using a community-based education approach through participatory engagement and capacity-building models involving 21 teachers and educational staff. The program consisted of six main activities: an AIK-based environmental ethics workshop, limited-space greening training, an Adiwiyata program workshop, a focus group discussion on strategy and preparation of Adiwiyata submission documents, a motivation workshop for environmental teacher leaders, and the provision of Adiwiyata supporting facilities. The results indicate increased AIK-based environmental literacy and understanding of the Adiwiyata Program, strengthened commitment and structured environmentally friendly practices within the school, and the completion of initial documents for district-level Adiwiyata submission. These findings confirm that integrating religious values with environmental education effectively promotes awareness, motivation, and an environmentally responsible school culture. Keywords: adiwiyata school; environmental education; al-islam and kemuhammadiyahan; community service.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the challenges faced by female students from non-Islamic educational backgrounds in achieving Quranic memorization targets at Rumah Setia Putri Tahfidz Boarding School, Sukoharjo. The primary problem lies in the significant disparity in initial Quranic literacy, which hinders students from secular schools from meeting the standardized memorization pace of the institution. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach to explore the lived experiences and pedagogical adaptations of these students. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation reviews involving students and tahfidz instructors. The gathered data were analyzed using thematic analysis, involving data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing to ensure interpretive validity. The findings indicate that students from non-Islamic backgrounds often struggle with basic recitation rules (tajwid), with some even requiring foundational instruction starting from the Iqra’ level. This lack of prior religious education causes a noticeable achievement gap compared to peers from Islamic elementary schools. However, intensive guidance through tahsin and talaqqi sessions has proven effective in helping these students bridge the competency gap. Furthermore, the implementation of personalized memorization targets allows students to progress according to their individual capacities without excessive psychological pressure. Internal obstacles such as laziness, perceived difficulty of memorization, and lack of focus remain prevalent challenges. Future research should investigate the long-term retention rates (muraja’ah) of students from secular backgrounds compared to those with formal religious foundations.

Abstract

The contemporary Islamic education system is predominantly implemented through a dogmatic approach, with a primary emphasis on cognitive development and character or moral formation. This study aims to examine the concept of prophetic epistemology and its relevance to the objectives of Islamic education. The main focus of this research is to understand how the prophetic dimension can serve as an epistemological foundation for the construction of Islamic educational knowledge. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach through a literature review. The primary data sources consist of works by contemporary Islamic thinkers such as Kuntowijoyo, Al-Attas, Al-Faruqi, and Musa Asy’arie. Secondary data are drawn from various relevant journals, books, articles, and other scholarly sources. The data analysis method used in this research is content analysis. The findings indicate that prophetic epistemology is capable of reorienting Islamic education from a mere process of knowledge transmission toward the formation of intelligence that is able to interpret ethical and spiritual realities. At least two significant findings emerge from this study: first, prophetic thinking serves as the epistemological foundation of Islamic education; second, prophetic thinking functions as a conceptual framework within Islamic educational practice. These two aspects can be integrated as the basis for educational objectives that not only enhance intellectual capacity but also cultivate character formation and social responsibility among learners. The implications of this study underscore the necessity of an epistemological reorientation in Islamic education in order to remain relevant to the challenges of modernity without losing its transcendent values. Prophetic epistemology offers a robust philosophical framework for realizing an integrative, humanistic, and revelation-based Islamic education.

Abstract

Abstract

Advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology present both benefits an challenges for Islamic Religious Education (IRE), given the this subject is not only focused on cognitive achievement but also encompasses the development of students’faith, moral character, and spiritual values. This study aims to examine the implementation of AI in Islamic Religious Education at the Muhammadiyah Junior High School in Kottabarat, Surakarta. This study employs a qualitative approach, with data collection conducted through interviews with IRE teachers and the distribution of questionnaires to students, which were subsequently analyzed using the Miles and Hubermen model. The results indicate that the implementation of various al based platforms including Quizizz, Chatbot, Blooket, Canva, and educational videos has been systematically integrated into a single learning sequence, from planning to evaluation, and has been shown to significantly enhance student engagement, motivation, and the effectiveness of IRE instruction.  This study implies that the integration of AI in IRE has proven effective in increasing student engagement and learning effectiveness, thereby highlighting the need for an update to IRE learning theories and approaches that incorporate technology without neglecting spiritual values.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the implementation of multiculturalism in Islamic education across various contexts and regions, and its contribution to a more inclusive and tolerant understanding of Islam. This research employs a Systematic Literature Review method, yielding 9 articles from the Scopus database. The findings indicate that multiculturalism in Islamic education effectively reduces tensions between religious and ethnic groups, while shaping individuals who respect differences in culture and belief. In Indonesia, Islamic moderation values have proven effective in fostering a more harmonious society. In Malaysia, Australia, and the United Kingdom, multicultural Islamic education plays a significant role in enhancing social cohesion. However, implementation remains challenged by limited resources, inadequate educational policies, and difficulties in designing curricula that effectively accommodate diversity. This study recommends enhanced teacher training, improved educational policies, and the development of more inclusive curricula to maximize the effectiveness of multicultural Islamic education.
