Abstract

Objective: Explain the synonyms of the words in the Qur'an related to arrogance, especially the words istikbar, anger, mukhtalan, and fakhuran, as well as analyze the semantic relationship between the words. Theoretical framework: A semantic study in Arabic linguistics, especially the theory of synonyms (al-tarāduf) in the study of the meaning of words in the Qur'an, as well as a thematic interpretation approach to words that connote arrogance in sacred texts. Literature review: A previous study of synonyms in the Qur'an, the use of arrogant words in the context of Qur'anic verses, as well as mufasir's interpretation of the meaning of istikbar, anger, mukhtalan, and fakhuran in various classical and contemporary tafsir books. Methods: Qualitative research with a library research approach, using primary data in the form of verses of the Qur'an containing the words istikbar, anger, mukhtalan, and fakhuran, and supported by interpretations as secondary data. Results: The results of the study show that istikbar describes a kufr attitude that rejects and degrades Allah, His teachings, and His Messenger. Marah shows the condition of a person who is too late in joy to display arrogance. Mukhtalan comes from the word imaginary, describing a person who is controlled by the illusion of self-superiority and arrogance. Meanwhile, fakhuran refers to the behavior of boasting about outward things such as wealth and social status. These four words have different meanings of arrogance according to their context in the Qur'an. Implications: This study enriches the semantic understanding of the Qur'an, especially about the words that reflect arrogance, so that it can be used in the study of interpretation, Islamic moral education, and Islamic linguistic studies. Novelty: An in-depth thematic and semantic analysis of the four synonymous words in the Qur'an that connote arrogance, by showing the differentiation in the meaning and context of the use of each word in detail.

Abstract

Objective: Identify and interpret the ethical values contained in Surah Al-Hujurat verses 6–12 and analyze their application in daily life and broader social structures. Theoretical framework: A theoretical framework based on Islamic social ethics sourced from the Qur'an, especially the values of information verification (tabayyun), justice in conflict resolution, brotherhood, and prohibition of ridicule, prejudice, and ghibah. Literature review: A literature study that includes the Qur'an, classical and contemporary commentaries, and modern social science literature that addresses ethical and communication challenges in today's Muslim society. Methods: Qualitative research with a thematic interpretation approach (tafsīr maudhū'ī) combined with contextual-sociological analysis, with data collected through literature studies. Results: It was found that the ethical values in Surah Al-Hujurat are not only normative but also highly relevant and applicable in the context of today's digital and multicultural society. The five main values identified are: information verification, conflict resolution, social solidarity, respect for human dignity, and prejudice control. Implication: This study recommends the integration of these Qur'anic ethical values into character education, social policy, and ethical communication practices in society. Novelty: The novelty of this study lies in the contextual analysis of the application of social ethical values in Surah Al-Hujurat in contemporary digital and multicultural societies, an approach that is rarely discussed in the study of social interpretation in depth.

Abstract

Surah An-Nisa' verse 34 is one of the most discussed verses in the discourse of gender relations in Islam. This verse is often in the spotlight because it is considered to legitimize the dominance of men over women in domestic relations. However, a purely textual approach without considering maqasid al-shari'ah has the potential to give birth to a biased understanding that is not in line with the principles of Islamic justice. This research aims to find out the concept of Qawwamah and gender justice according to Ibn 'Ashur through his monumental work at-Tahrir wa at-Tanwir which offers a tafsir approach oriented to maqasid al-shari'ah. By prioritizing the goals of sharia such as justice, welfare, and the protection of human rights, the tafsir maqasidi of Ibn 'Ashur can provide an alternative reading of controversial verses, including Surah An-Nisa' verse 34. This research uses a qualitative method with a thematic interpretation and maqasidi approach. The results of the study show that Ibn 'Ashur emphasized the importance of considering the social context and purpose of the shari'ah in understanding the verse. He interprets qawwamah as a form of functional responsibility, not absolute superiority. Thus, the maqasidi interpretation is able to offer a more equitable, inclusive, and relevant understanding of the principle of gender equality in Islam.

Abstract

Currently, gender issues have become one of the most widely discussed topics across various groups. In this context, the research conducted will focus on issues related to verses that are considered to contain gender bias. On the other hand, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly popular in various aspects of life. This technology has become a reliable tool, particularly among young Muslim generations and modern society, and is often used as a primary reference, including in addressing religious matters. This study aims to examine the perspective of gender interpretation by utilizing AI as an auxiliary tool. AI will be used to identify gender bias through the analysis of linguistic patterns found in interpretations. The research focuses on gender bias in the interpretation of Quranic verses, specifically QS. An-Nisa: 34, QS. Al-Baqarah: 228, QS. Al-Baqarah: 282, QS. An-Nisa: 7, and QS. Al-Baqarah: 223. Gender biases that frequently appear in traditional interpretations are often rooted in patriarchal culture, which reinforces gender hierarchies. Such interpretations tend to position men as dominant in various aspects of life, such as household leadership, legal testimony, and inheritance distribution. This study employs a qualitative approach based on library research to analyze both traditional and contemporary interpretations while integrating artificial intelligence (AI) as a supporting tool. The findings indicate that contemporary approaches offer more equitable and inclusive perspectives by understanding Quranic verses within their historical context. For instance, the term qawwāmūna in QS. An-Nisa: 34 is interpreted not as the absolute superiority of men but as an economic responsibility assigned to them. AI also proves effective in supporting the development of interpretations that are relevant to modern social challenges. By combining traditional and contemporary approaches with modern technology such as AI, this study is expected to renew the understanding of Quranic verses, reflecting values of justice, equality, and inclusivity. This research makes a significant contribution to the discourse on gender interpretation by bridging classical and modern methodologies while addressing the needs of contemporary Muslim communities.

Abstract

Gratitude is one of the fundamental concepts in human life, reflecting a sense of thankfulness for the blessings given. In the era of digital technology, artificial intelligence (AI) presents a new perspective in understanding and expressing the concept of gratitude through interactions with users. This article aims to comparatively examine the approaches of two AI platforms, Meta AI and ChatGPT, in understanding and conveying the meaning of gratitude based on user input. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method, With a comparative approach to analyze how Meta AI and ChatGPT understand and convey the concept of gratitude. This study is qualitative in nature and aims to reveal the differences and similarities in the responses of the two artificial intelligence platforms regarding the theme of gratitude. The results of the study indicate that gratitude is an attitude of the heart, speech, and actions in acknowledging and utilizing Allah's blessings. Gratitude is not merely expressed in words but must also be manifested in tangible actions that align with Shariah. Gratitude also has reciprocal consequences: if one is grateful, Allah will increase the blessings; if one is ungrateful, they will face a painful punishment. The additional blessings promised by Allah encompass both worldly and spiritual aspects, not only in material form but also in blessings, happiness, and closeness to Allah. Ungratefulness does not only mean denying the blessings, but also misusing or failing to use them in accordance with Allah's will.

Abstract

This research examines the relationship between Qur'anic verses describing the process of human creation and modern scientific knowledge through a linguistic and scientific analysis approach supported by Artificial Intelligence (AI). The focus lies on verses from Surah Al-Mu'minun, Al-Insan, and As-Sajdah, which describe the stages of human creation, starting from nutfah (sperm), alaqah (a clinging embryo), to mudghah (a lump of flesh). Spiritual elements such as the soul are also discussed to highlight the transcendent dimension that science cannot fully explain. This study employs a qualitative method, using AI as a primary source for data exploration and analysis through specific prompts or questions. Thematic analysis is applied to categorize the information obtained from AI into main themes corresponding to the stages of human creation mentioned in the Qur'an. The research reveals a profound alignment between Qur'anic terminology and modern embryology. For instance, nutfah in embryology refers to the germ plasma, while nutfatun amshaj corresponds to fertilization. The term alaqah aligns with the embryo stage, and mudghah corresponds to gastrulation. Furthermore, izham relates to osteogenesis or ossification, and lahm corresponds to myogenesis. The concepts of ruh and tannur are associated with the womb, while takhliq represents formation and development, encompassing processes such as fertilization, mitosis, and cell differentiation. Additionally, taqdir aligns with determination, encompassing genetics, epigenetics, and hormonal factors, and amal signifies the formation and development of body structures. This research highlights the harmony between the Qur'anic descriptions of human creation and the findings of modern embryology, providing a deeper understanding of the Qur'an's scientific and spiritual insights.

Abstract

This research departs from the importance of the relationship between mental health and faith, which is believed to be achieved through patience, sincerity, gratitude, and tawakal to Allah. In Quraish Shihab's view, dhikr and righteous deeds also play a role in optimizing one's potential to achieve happiness in this world and the hereafter. This study aims to reveal how mental health in Islam is closely related to faith and the alignment of this concept with Dr. Susan Kobasa's theory of mental resilience. According to psychologist Susan Kobasa's research, there are three elements that seem to be important for a stress-resistant mindset to form: challenge, self-control, and commitment. Quraish Shihab asserts that true happiness does not only come from the fulfillment of physical needs, but especially from closeness to Allah and the attainment of the meaning of life. The research method used is qualitative research with a thematic interpretation approach. Primary data comes from Tafsir Al-Misbah, while secondary data is obtained from various literature such as books, journals, and other sources. This method aims to understand the concept of mental health in Islam more systematically and shows that from Maryam's story, we can gain mental resilience through faith and trust in Allah. The results of the study show that the teachings of the Qur'an, if understood and practiced properly, can be the main foundation in maintaining mental health.

Abstract

The main activity in this community service aims to strengthen the role of TPA in developing children's Islamic character through three main activities carried out, namely strengthening YPA activities, learning to read and write the Koran and introducing good interpretation of the Koran. Taking place in Kertonan village, Kartasura subdistrict, this activity was motivated by the limited number of TPA teachers, the weak ability to read and write the Koran and Iqro among children and the lack of in-depth understanding of the meaning of the holy verses of the Koran. In carrying out this service activity, we invite children not only to read fluently but also to understand the meaning and moral values of the verses and prayers that children often learn in everyday life. With this activity, children show an increase in their ability to read Iqro and the Koran, and begin to get used to practicing Islamic teachings in their daily lives. For community activities, reciting the interpretation of the Koran is also very helpful in increasing people's knowledge in understanding Islamic religious knowledge. The results of this activity show that the strategy used is very efficient in teaching Islamic religion through TPA activities, able to strengthen the foundation of Islamic character from an early age and can foster a strong religious spirit in children in the Kertonan village.
