Abstract

Mathematical communication skills are essential for enabling students to express mathematical ideas, use representations, and explain reasoning clearly. However, elementary students often experience difficulties in using mathematical symbols, interpreting visual representations, and presenting problem-solving steps systematically. This study examined students’ mathematical communication skills after the implementation of ethnomathematics-based learning using Mbojo cultural contexts. A quasi-experimental method with a one-group posttest-only design was employed. The participants were 15 fourth-grade students selected through total sampling. Data were collected using a mathematical communication skills test and analyzed using a one-sample t-test with a benchmark score of 70, based on the Minimum Mastery Criteria. The results showed that students’ mean score was 73.87, which was significantly higher than the benchmark, t(14) = 2.822, p = .015. These findings indicate that ethnomathematics-based learning using Mbojo cultural contexts can support students’ mathematical communication skills. However, due to the absence of a pretest and control group, the findings should be interpreted as evidence of students’ achievement above the benchmark rather than strong causal evidence.

Abstract

This study investigated the obstacles faced by Indonesian pre-service English teachers during their teaching practicum and the underlying causes at junior high schools in Southern Thailand. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with three Indonesian pre-service English teachers undertaking their practicum at junior high schools in Southern Thailand to gather qualitative case study data. Six interconnected categories of issues exist: linguistic barriers (students' restricted vocabulary and pronunciation difficulties stemming from Thai, Malay, and Patani Malay); communication barriers (language disparities and dependence on translation); psychological barriers (students' apprehension regarding errors); and classroom engagement challenges (disinterest and diminished focus due to multilingual cognitive processes). Five contributing factors included restricted English exposure beyond the classroom, first language influence resulting in phonological interference, a curriculum-proficiency mismatch leading to systemic barriers, monotonous teacher-centered methodologies with insufficient learning media, and structural constraints such as time and facilities. Southern Thailand possesses a multitude of languages, rendering it distinctive within Thai EFL. Students were required to attain proficiency in Thai, Malay, Patani Malay, and Arabic before acquiring English as a fifth language. The results indicated that challenges in multilingual education are systemic, necessitating context-specific pedagogical approaches, enhanced training for novice educators, curriculum modifications to align with students' proficiency levels, and improved institutional support for junior high school teaching, including time and technological resources. Abstract

Children of Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia often face limited access to formal education due to legal and social constraints. This condition highlights the importance of non-formal education supported by young volunteers. This study explores the experiences of Indonesian young volunteers in teaching English vocabulary to immigrant children at Sekolah Indonesia Kuala Lumpur (SIKL) within a temporary learning environment. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed through semi-structured interviews with four volunteers aged 16–21 years. The data were analyzed thematically to identify volunteers’ motivations, teaching strategies, and challenges. The findings indicate that volunteers were motivated by social contribution and personal development. Game-based activities, storytelling, and simple rewards effectively increased children’s participation and engagement. However, volunteers encountered challenges related to limited facilities, physical fatigue, and classroom management. Overall, the involvement of young volunteers had a positive impact on the learning process of immigrant children and contributed to the volunteers’ social and emotional development.

Abstract

Vocabulary mastery remains a persistent barrier in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning among senior high school students in East Kalimantan, particularly amid uneven educational resources. This study addresses the urgent need for accessible and context-sensitive strategies by examining the pedagogical potential of English movie subtitles. Employing a qualitative library research design, it synthesizes findings from academic literature, theses, and policy documents focusing on both urban and remote school contexts. The novelty of this study lies in its contextualized analysis of subtitle use across proficiency levels and infrastructural conditions. Findings indicate that subtitles enhance vocabulary acquisition through improved comprehension and lexical recognition. Intralingual subtitles benefit intermediate learners, while interlingual subtitles reduce anxiety among beginners. The study contributes practical insights into integrating audiovisual media in EFL instruction, highlighting the role of technological readiness and curriculum adaptability in optimizing learning outcomes.

Abstract

Purpose – This study aimed to investigate the effect of PhBL learning applied with three variations of PhBL (direct phenomenon, indirect phenomenon, and combined phenomenon) on students' creative thinking and collaboration skills.Methodology – This study used a quasi-experimental, pretest–posttest control-group design. Participants were drawn from all Grade XI students, with four classes serving as the research sample. Creative thinking skills were measured through open-ended questions, while collaboration skills were assessed via observation sheets administered before and after PhBL. The collected data were then analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistical methods.Findings – Results revealed that PhBL affected creative thinking and collaboration skills. Although no significant differences were observed among the three experimental groups in creative thinking, each experimental group differed significantly from the control group. Similarly, for collaboration skills, experimental groups did not differ significantly from one another. However, significant differences from the control group were observed only in experimental groups 1 and 2, whereas experimental group 3 showed no significant differences.Contribution – This study shows that PhBL can be applied in the learning process to improve students' creative thinking and collaboration skills.

Abstract

Climate change is a real threat to the long-term viability of farms and the economic stability of farming families, especially in rural Indonesia. This makes farmers even more vulnerable because they can't plan their finances flexibly when they don't know how much they'll make from their harvest. The goal of this community service project is to help farming families become more financially literate. It took place on October 30, 2025, in Waru Village, Parung District, Bogor Regency, and involved 30 members of the PKK of Waru Village. The extension materials taught people how to manage their household income and expenses, keep simple financial records, plan their finances for the seasons, and get to know formal financial institutions. A questionnaire was used to evaluate participants' financial knowledge and access to financial institutions. The results show that 76.6% of participants knew about banks, 60% had savings accounts, and 73.3% knew about more than one type of bank. After the extension, comprehension levels were over 80% of the target set. These results show that using contextual and participatory lecture methods as a first step to help rural farming communities address climate change challenges is an effective way to improve their financial literacy.

Abstract

Indonesia's economy heavily depends on the agricultural sector, especially plantation crops, and the Farmers' Terms of Trade (NTP) are frequently used to gauge the welfare of farmers. South Sumatra and Lampung are the two provinces that produce the most coffee, yet their welfare dynamics do not always match their production dominance, suggesting a possible disconnect between output performance and farmer welfare. Using panel data from 2015 to 2023, this study attempts to investigate how sectoral GRDP, inflation, and coffee production affect Plantation Farmers' Terms of Trade (NTPB). A panel regression approach with high-frequency data is employed to better capture short-term welfare dynamics in leading coffee-producing regions, with the Common Effect Model identified as the most appropriate specification. The findings demonstrate that NTPB is significantly positively impacted by both GRDP and inflation. The beneficial impact of inflation should be read cautiously, too, since it probably represents price rises for agricultural commodities rather than general gains in buying power. Contrarily, coffee productivity has a negative and statistically negligible impact, suggesting that higher output does not always translate into improved farmer welfare. These findings reveal a structural discrepancy between production performance and welfare outcomes, suggesting that price dynamics and overall economic conditions have a greater impact on farmer welfare than productivity alone.

Abstract

The potato is one of the vegetables comodities in Brebes Regency. The last three years, there has been a decline in production. Supply chain that has been implemented is deemed not optimal while the region has potential that can be exploited. The purpose of this study was to determine supply chain of the potato in Brebes Regency. The analytical method uses a Food Supply Chain Network (FSCN). The result showed that conditions based on the aspects of the target, structure, management, resources, and supply chain business processes. Target potatoes are sold to the local Brebes market and outside the region. There are four supply chain structure. It members are farmers, middlemen, wholesalers, small traders, retailers, and consumers. Supply chain management related to partner selection, contractual agreements, transaction systems, government support, and supply chain collaboration. The criteria for selecting partners are bidders with high prices, customers, and middlemen who are bound to provide capital loans to farmers. Transaction system through grace and cash system. The government support also contributes to the sustainability of it. Resources owned by members of the supply chain consist of physical, technology, and capital resources. Business processes can be seen from distribution patterns, support chain members, risk and trust building. Distribution patterns flow products, finance, and information from farmers to consumers, and vice versa. Each member of the potato supply chain requires equipment and input in the form of raw materials in the production process. Each member has different risks in the supply chain business process.
