Abstract

This study aims to diagnose students' conceptions and identify their sources related to elasticity and Hooke's law using a five-level multirepresentation diagnostic instrument. A quantitative method with a research and development design was used involving 33 eleventh-grade students from SMA Negeri 13 Jambi City. Data were collected through a 15-question multirepresentation test, interviews, and documentation. Validity and reliability analysis using SPSS showed that the instrument was reliable (Cronbach's Alpha = 0.911). The implementation of this research instrument showed that the average percentage of students' correct answers (at Levels 1-4) was only 19.9%, indicating low conceptual understanding. Then, this study also identified students' misconceptions, which included 14 main types of misconceptions with an overall average percentage (at Levels 1-4) of 13.6%, which is also categorized as low. Personal thinking was identified as the main source of misconceptions, providing important insights for designing physics learning interventions. The uniqueness of this study lies in the application of a five-level diagnostic instrument to identify misconceptions and their sources, by finding that students' thinking is the main source. The results of this study provide important implications for physics education, including targeted intervention strategies and increased conceptual clarity, which ultimately support the teaching and learning of basic physics concepts.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to compare the effectiveness of online and offline simulation media. Especially during the transition period from the new normal, hybrid learning and back to the new normal. Methodology: The research design used was quasi-experimental. The study sample was taken using a random sampling technique. The data collection techniques used are observation and tests. Observation is carried out to find out more about the subject of research. A trial is conducted to determine the condition of students before and after receiving treatment. There are two test instruments used, namely pretest and posttest. The treatment given to the control class is learning using Science KIT, and the experimental class will use PhET Simulation. The results of the study will be processed using SPSS. Main Findings: PhET media and science KIT based on the N-gain test proved to increase on average after treatment. In the control class, the gain value was 0.7, while the gain value was 0.8 in the experimental class. According to the criteria, both classes are in the high category. but in contrast to the percentage of effectiveness, the use of PhET is effective with a rate of 86%, while KIT science is quite practical with a ratio of 71%. Novelty/Originality of this study: PhET simulation media and science KIT can explain abstract material to improve cognitive understanding. The use of this simulation media can be adjusted to learning conditions. if offline, use KIT, and if online, use PhET.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis miskonsepsi siswa pada materi listrik arus searah menggunakan instrumen Four-Tier Diagnostic Test berbasis multirepresentasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kuantitatif dengan populasi seluruh siswa kelas XII di MAN 1 Muaro Jambi dan MAN 2 Kota Jambi, dengan sampel sebanyak 110 siswa yang dipilih melalui teknik purposive sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa tes empat tingkat yang disajikan dalam tiga bentuk representasi, yaitu makroskopis, mikroskopis, dan simbolik. Data dianalisis dengan mengelompokkan jawaban siswa ke dalam kategori konsepsi, yaitu scientific conception, misconception, lack of knowledge, false positive, dan false negative, untuk kemudian dihitung persentasenya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa miskonsepsi masih tergolong tinggi pada seluruh bentuk representasi, dengan persentase tertinggi pada representasi makroskopis sebesar 65%, diikuti mikroskopis 44% dan simbolik 35%. Miskonsepsi yang dominan berkaitan dengan distribusi arus pada rangkaian seri dan paralel, pengaruh resistor terhadap besar arus, serta pemaknaan persamaan matematis dalam rangkaian listrik. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa siswa belum mampu mengintegrasikan pemahaman konsep secara konsisten pada berbagai representasi, sehingga diperlukan strategi pembelajaran yang menekankan pada keterkaitan antarrepresentasi untuk meningkatkan pemahaman konseptual siswa.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis miskonsepsi siswa pada materi listrik statis menggunakan instrumen four-tier diagnostic test berbasis multirepresentasi. Materi yang dikaji meliputi konsep gaya listrik, medan listrik, kapasitor keping sejajar, dan rangkaian kapasitor. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kuantitatif. Populasi penelitian adalah siswa kelas XII di SMA Negeri 2 Kota Jambi sebanyak 101 siswa yang dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Instrumen penelitian berupa tes multirepresentasi four-tier sebanyak 14 butir soal yang mencakup representasi makroskopik, mikroskopik, dan simbolik representative, serta dilengkapi dengan tingkat keyakinan jawaban dan alasan untuk mengidentifikasi miskonsepsi secara lebih akurat. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif untuk memperoleh persentase kategori paham konsep, miskonsepsi, pemahaman parsial, dan tidak paham konsep. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada representasi makroskopik, sebesar 28% siswa mengalami miskonsepsi, sedangkan pada representasi mikroskopik dan simbolik miskonsepsi lebih dominan masing-masing sebesar 47,85% dan sekitar 48%. Selain itu, persentase pemahaman ilmiah (scientific conception) pada representasi makroskopik sebesar 53,2%, namun menurun pada representasi mikroskopik (29,37%) dan simbolik (29%), terutama dalam memahami dan menentukan bentuk grafik yang tepat sesuai dengan hubungan antarbesaran fisika. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa miskonsepsi siswa cenderung meningkat pada level representasi yang lebih abstrak. Hal ini mengindikasikan bahwa siswa masih mengalami kesulitan dalam mengintegrasikan representasi makroskopik, mikroskopik, dan simbolik dalam memahami konsep listrik statis. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan strategi pembelajaran fisika berbasis multirepresentasi yang lebih efektif untuk meminimalkan miskonsepsi siswa.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis miskonsepsi siswa pada materi momentum dan impuls menggunakan instrumen Four-Tier Diagnostic Test berbasis multirepresentasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kuantitatif dengan sampel sebanyak 100 siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 3 Kota Jambi yang telah mempelajari materi momentum dan impuls. Instrumen penelitian berupa Four-Tier Diagnostic Test berbasis multirepresentasi yang terdiri atas empat tingkat respons, yaitu jawaban konsep, tingkat keyakinan terhadap jawaban, alasan pemilihan jawaban, dan tingkat keyakinan terhadap alasan. Data dianalisis dengan mengelompokkan respons siswa ke dalam lima kategori konsepsi, yaitu Scientific Conception (SC), Misconception (MSC), Lack of Knowledge (LK), False Positive (FP), dan False Negative (FN). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada representasi makroskopik diperoleh persentase SC sebesar 39%, MSC 30%, LK 21%, FP 6%, dan FN 4%. Sementara itu, pada representasi simbolik diperoleh persentase SC sebesar 28%, MSC 25%, LK 30%, FP 9%, dan FN 8%. Hasil tersebut menunjukkan bahwa siswa lebih mudah memahami konsep melalui fenomena nyata dibandingkan representasi simbolik. Oleh karena itu, penggunaan Four-Tier Diagnostic Test berbasis multirepresentasi dapat mengidentifikasi miskonsepsi siswa secara lebih akurat dan komprehensif.

Abstract

Abstract: Misconceptions constitute a serious issue in physics education as they hinder students’ conceptual understanding. This study aims to systematically map the distribution of misconception topics, the characteristics of diagnostic instruments, and the effectiveness of misconception-reduction methods based on empirical evidence. A total of 200 articles were retrieved from Scopus, Google Scholar, and ERIC and screened using the PRISMA framework, resulting in 40 eligible studies (2014–2025, empirical research, clearly identified diagnostic instruments, and full-text availability). The selection process involved identification, title–abstract screening, and full-text eligibility assessment to ensure methodological rigor. The findings indicate that three-tier and four-tier diagnostic tests are the most frequently used instruments, while misconceptions are most prevalent in mechanics, followed by electricity and magnetism, waves and optics, and thermodynamics. Multi-tier instruments demonstrate greater effectiveness in revealing students’ conceptual structures compared to conventional tests. This review provides an integrated synthesis map that supports evidence-based diagnostic assessment and remedial strategies in physics education.Abstrak: Miskonsepsi merupakan masalah serius dalam pembelajaran fisika karena menghambat pemahaman konseptual siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan memetakan secara sistematis distribusi topik miskonsepsi, karakteristik instrumen diagnostik, dan efektivitas metode reduksi berdasarkan bukti empiris. Sebanyak 200 artikel ditelusuri melalui Scopus, Google Scholar, dan ERIC, kemudian diseleksi menggunakan alur PRISMA hingga menghasilkan 40 artikel yang memenuhi kriteria inklusi (2014–2025, penelitian empiris, menggunakan instrumen diagnostik yang teridentifikasi jelas, dan tersedia full text). Proses seleksi dilakukan melalui tahap identifikasi, penyaringan judul–abstrak, serta penilaian kelayakan full text untuk memastikan kualitas metodologis. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa three-tier dan four-tier diagnostic test paling dominan, sementara miskonsepsi terbanyak ditemukan pada mekanika, diikuti listrik magnet, gelombang optika, dan termodinamika. Instrumen multi-tier lebih efektif mengidentifikasi struktur konsepsi siswa dibandingkan tes konvensional. Kajian ini menawarkan peta sintesis terintegrasi yang relevan sebagai dasar pengembangan assessment diagnostik dan strategi remedial berbasis bukti dalam pendidikan fisika.

Abstract

Misconceptions on the topic of waves are a systemic problem in high school physics learning that requires a comprehensive diagnostic instrument. Conventional diagnostic instruments up to the four-tier generation have limitations in revealing the conceptual structure behind students' thinking errors. This study aims to develop a five-tier multi-representation diagnostic instrument on the topic of waves using the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The main innovation of this instrument lies in the integration of multi-representations (verbal, pictures, graphics, mathematical) in Tier 1 and the addition of a paraphrase tier (Tier 5) that asks students to rewrite their understanding in their own words. The development process includes needs analysis, designing a grid of 16 questions, validation by two experts, and a limited trial on 34 grade XI students of SMAN 13 Kota Jambi. The results of expert validation showed an average percentage of 91.25% (Very Good) from both validators. Content validity was met with a percentage of False Positive (FP) of 6.80% and False Negative (FN) of 4.41%, both below the 10% threshold. Construct validity was confirmed through a significant Product Moment correlation (r = 0.342–0.348; sig. < 0.05) and factor analysis with six significant factors (eigenvalue > 1). The instrument's reliability was high, with a Cronbach's Alpha of 0.726. This instrument is expected to help physics teachers diagnose students' misconceptions more precisely and thoroughly on the topic of waves.

Abstract

Students’ misconceptions about fraction concepts remain prevalent and significantly impact their mathematical understanding. The purpose of this study was to provide remediation to students who were identified as having misconceptions about fractions based on the results of a diagnostic pre-test using a five-tier instrument. Remediation of students' misconceptions was carried out through learning using conceptual change theory and scaffolding. To determine the impact of the intervention, a post-test diagnostic was conducted using the five-tier instrument. This study employed a mixed-methods approach through a convergent parallel design. The quantitative subjects consisted of 26 students, while the qualitative subjects comprised three students selected through purposive sampling. Qualitative data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that before remediation, the average scientific conception (correct answers) was low at 17.6%, and after remediation, it increased to 86.6%, representing an average increase of 69%. The findings indicate that integrating conceptual change theory with scaffolding is a promising strategy for addressing entrenched misconceptions in mathematics education.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Remazol batik wastewater treatment at SMAN 3 Muaro Jambi through degradation and adsorption using a TiO₂/biochar photocatalytic composite. The biochar was derived from cassava peel and employed under UV light irradiation, with UV-Vis spectrophotometry used for analysis. Treatment efficiency was assessed by varying the biochar mass (1–4 grams) and reaction time (1, 3, and 6 hours). The highest removal efficiency of 100% was achieved at 4 grams of biochar and 6 hours of exposure. The adsorption process followed the Freundlich isotherm model, indicating a multilayer adsorption mechanism on the biochar surface. These findings suggest that the TiO₂/biochar composite offers an effective, eco-friendly, and practical solution for small-scale batik wastewater treatment, particularly in educational and home industry settings.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pemahaman, pengalaman, tantangan, dan kesiapan guru dalam mengembangkan perangkat pembelajaran sains yang berdaya saing global melalui lokakarya Hybrid Deep Learning dan STEM Project-Based Learning (STEM-PjBL). Menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan desain penelitian tindakan partisipatif, penelitian ini melibatkan 29 guru sains dari MGMP di Muaro Jambi, Indonesia. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner dan observasi sebelum, selama, dan setelah lokakarya, dan dianalisis menggunakan model interaktif Miles dan Huberman. Temuan penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa guru umumnya memiliki pengetahuan terbatas tentang pembelajaran mendalam dan hybrid deep learning, pengalaman minimal dalam menerapkan STEM-PjBL, dan menghadapi tantangan signifikan seperti fasilitas terbatas, kompetensi pedagogis yang tidak memadai, dan kurangnya dukungan kelembagaan. Terlepas dari keterbatasan ini, sebagian besar guru menunjukkan kesiapan dan motivasi yang tinggi untuk mengintegrasikan teknologi berbasis AI dan pendekatan berbasis proyek ke dalam praktik mengajar mereka, dengan syarat mereka diberikan bimbingan intensif dan pengembangan profesional berkelanjutan. Kebaruan program ini terletak pada integrasi Pembelajaran Mendalam Hibrida dengan STEM-PjBL sebagai model untuk meningkatkan kapasitas guru dalam merancang perangkat pembelajaran sains inovatif berbasis teknologi. Implikasinya menyoroti pentingnya pelatihan profesional berkelanjutan, dukungan institusional, dan kemitraan kolaboratif untuk memastikan keberhasilan implementasi pedagogi berbasis AI dan berbasis proyek dalam pendidikan sains.
