Abstract

Guidance and Counseling (BK) is an important service in the world of education which aims to help students develop their potential, overcome problems and improve the quality of their personal, social, learning and career lives. In order for this goal to be achieved optimally, various supporting activities are needed which are preventive, curative and developmental in nature. This research aims to analyze the implementation of guidance and counseling (BK) support activities in schools as part of efforts to improve the quality of services to students. The method used is literature study, by analyzing various relevant sources, such as journals, books and previous research reports related to the implementation of BK. The population in this study includes secondary level formal education institutions in Indonesia, with a focus on schools that have implemented the BK program. The research results show that the success of the BK program is greatly influenced by the availability of facilities, the competence of teaching staff, and support from the school. However, the main challenge found was the lack of special time allocation and lack of understanding by some parties regarding the importance of guidance and counseling in the school environment. This research emphasizes the importance of implementing guidance and counseling support activities that are integrated with the learning system to create an educational environment that is student-centered and supports student development academically, emotionally and socially.

Abstract

Work-family conflict (WFC) remains one of the most widely recognized occupational stressors, contributing to reduced well-being, increased turnover intentions, and poorer physical and mental health among employees. Although previous studies have demonstrated the importance of social support in addressing WFC, a comprehensive understanding of how different forms of support operate across occupations and work contexts is still limited. This systematic review aimed to examine the role of social support in mitigating work-family conflict and its associated outcomes. The review followed the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. A systematic search of the Scopus database using Boolean operators identified 431 articles related to work-family conflict, social support, and organizational support. Following duplicate removal and screening based on predefined inclusion criteria using the PICOS framework, 50 studies published between 2020 and 2026 were selected for analysis. Narrative synthesis revealed four major findings. First, WFC is shaped by occupational and contextual differences, with particularly high levels reported in healthcare, construction, hospitality, and remote or hybrid work settings. Second, organizational and supervisory support consistently reduce the negative effects of WFC by improving job satisfaction, family satisfaction, and overall well-being, thereby lowering emotional exhaustion and turnover intentions. Third, support from spouses and family members strengthens work-life balance and reduces the spillover of work-related stress into family life. Fourth, gender differences remain evident, with women generally experiencing more severe consequences of WFC than men. The findings support the Conservation of Resources Theory and Spillover/Crossover Theory by demonstrating that social support functions as a valuable resource across work and family domains. The review concludes that organizations should combine formal work-family policies with supportive leadership practices to effectively reduce work-family conflict. Future research should emphasize longitudinal designs, cross-cultural comparisons, underrepresented occupations, and the influence of digital and hybrid work environments on work-family dynamics.

Abstract

Bullying is an aggressive act involving a power imbalance that significantly impacts both victims and perpetrators. This study explores the role of guidance and counseling (BK) services in addressing bullying through individual and group counseling, techniques like the Structured Learning Approach (SLA), and bibliotherapy. Additionally, BK services play a critical role in raising awareness among students, teachers, and parents through information programs and anti-bullying campaigns. This research employs a literature review method, analyzing relevant journals and studies published between 2017 and 2024. The analysis was conducted using keywords such as "guidance and counseling," "bullying," and "student resilience." Findings reveal that an integrated approach effectively reduces bullying incidents and fosters a safe and inclusive school culture. Collaborative support from schools, parents, and the community is crucial to the success of these services.

Abstract

Purpose: Learning adjustment among students is a crucial aspect in fostering strong academic achievement, particularly in elective courses. With effective learning adjustment, students become better able to set clear academic goals, focus on learning activities, and successfully meet all academic demands. Various factors influence students’ learning adjustment, one of which is gender. This study aims to conduct a comparative analysis of learning adjustment in elective subjects between male and female students. Methods: This study employed a quantitative approach using a comparative method. Sampling was conducted using total sampling, with a sample size of 194 Phase F students at SMA N 2 Pulau Punjung, comprising 117 female students (59.3%) and 77 male students (39.7%). The instrument used in this study was a student learning adjustment scale that had been developed and validated through expert judgment. Additionally, the instrument had undergone validity and reliability testing. The validity test results showed that all item-total correlation coefficients exceeded the r-table values. The reliability test yielded a Cronbach’s alpha score of 0.970. Data analysis was performed using the independent samples t-test. Findings: The results of the study indicate that, descriptively and overall, students’ learning adjustment at SMAN 2 Pulau Punjung falls into the high category. Next, based on hypothesis testing, it was found that women had higher scores than men, t (192) = −2.344, p = 0.020, mean difference = 7.01, 95% CI [1.11, 12.90], with an effect size based on the article’s statistical calculations of approximately Cohen’s d = 0.34, or small to moderate. Research Implications: This study provides empirical evidence that gender still influences students’ academic adjustment in specific subject area. Originality: This study offers an analysis of self-adjustment in learning, particularly in specialized subjects, which, in this context, are still very limited and have not yet been addressed.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of information services in enhancing the sense of purpose among Minangkabau adolescents, which represents an essential aspect of psychological well-being and educational functioning. A quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was applied with a sample of 104 high school students selected through stratified random sampling. Data on meaning in life were collected using the Meaningfulness of Life Checklist and analyzed using paired and independent sample t-tests. The results demonstrate a significant increase in students’ meaning in life after receiving information services, indicating that the intervention effectively strengthens personal direction, motivation, and resilience. Furthermore, gender comparison analyses reveal that female students experienced greater improvement compared to male students. These findings confirm that information services are a relevant guidance and counseling strategy, particularly in cultural contexts where values and identity play a strong role in adolescent development, such as the Minangkabau community. Keywords: meaning in life, information services, minangkabau adolescents, counseling intervention

Abstract

The empty-nest phase in later life is a family transition that may affect self-esteem, social relationships, meaning in life, and psychological well-being. However, self-esteem instruments specifically developed for empty-nest older adults within the Indonesian cultural context remain limited. Purpose: This study aimed to develop and validate the Indonesian Culture-Based Self-Esteem Scale for Empty-Nest Older Adults using the Rasch model to support assessment in Guidance and Counseling. Method: A quantitative instrument-development and validation design was employed. The participants were 213 empty-nest older adults in Padang Pariaman Regency, Indonesia, selected through purposive sampling, with an additional 30 older adults involved in the readability testing stage. Instrument development involved a literature review, construct formulation, item writing, expert validation, readability testing, main data collection, and Rasch psychometric analysis. Results: The results showed that of the initial 42 items, 36 were empirically tested and 32 final items were retained. Aiken’s V ranged from .78 to .96, with a mean of .88. Rasch analysis indicated ordered response categories, 32 model-fitting items, person reliability of .86, item reliability of .95, and Cronbach’s alpha of .89. Implications: The scale also showed adequate unidimensionality and no meaningful bias in most respondent groups. Conclusion: These findings imply that the developed scale is suitable as a Guidance and Counseling assessment instrument to identify the self-esteem of empty-nest older adults in a more contextual, valid, and culturally responsive manner.
