Abstract

This article examines ecological citizenship, which refers to individual awareness and responsibility as part of the larger natural environment, and is becoming increasingly important in the context of global climate change and the current environmental crisis. Being environmentally conscious is important for young citizens because they will inherit this planet in the future. The method used in this research is qualitative research with library research. Data was collected from an analysis of relevant source books and journals and a document analysis of several articles related to this topic. Citizenship Education plays an essential role in shaping ecological citizenship. Citizenship education develops attitudes of care, civic responsibility, commitment, and engagement for young citizens to act positively to protect the environment. Further research needs to be conducted to explore the most effective learning strategies in instilling the values of ecological citizenship, both through conventional methods and digital technology-based approaches. Young people are expected to understand the concept of environmental citizenship and actively participate in concrete actions.

Abstract

This paper aimed to analyze digital citizenship in civic education learning, focusing on the practice and implications of digital citizenship in civic education learning. This article provided a systematic review of 41 selected articles from the SCOPUS database of digital citizenship in civic education learning by analyzing content as a methodology for assessing the practice and implications of citizenship in civic education learning. The review identified the practice of digital citizenship in civic education learning from the dimensions of respecting, educating, and appreciating the practice of citizenship. The results of the literature review analysis revealed that the practice of digital citizenship is often used in political participation, democratic participation, citizen involvement, and being a citizen in the digital era. The implications of digital citizenship in civic education learning were still centered on materials such as politics, democracy, and citizen involvement. Another implication was that students, teachers, and curriculum are the most critical aspects of digital citizenship in the future. Some literature tries to carry out this study. Civic education is the central pillar in promoting digital citizenship in schools and the community.

Abstract

This research is driven by the significance of civic education in cultivating students' knowledge and comprehension of citizenship, democracy, human rights, and social responsibility. This course at Ahmad Dahlan University is integral to an institutional initiative aimed at enhancing students' civic literacy. Nonetheless, initiatives to enhance civic literacy via the examination of these courses require more assessment. This research aims to examine the civic education course's role in enhancing students' civic literacy. Data was gathered by observation, interviews, and literature review. Analysis involves the collection of facts, presentation, and formulation of findings. The findings indicated that the project-based learning paradigm employed in the civic education course at UAD was beneficial in enhancing students' civic literacy, particularly in relation to democracy and national identity. Interactive pedagogical approaches, such as case studies, enhance students' comprehension of social concerns. Social contextual elements, pedagogical models and methodologies, together with assessment, significantly impact students' motivation and academic performance. Project-based learning surpasses traditional techniques in effectiveness, while regular assessments provide the adaptation of learning models and strategies to meet student requirements, thereby enhancing engagement and motivation.

Abstract

Although legal literacy plays a crucial role in Citizenship Education, legal content often remains abstract and difficult for students to comprehend. This study aims to examine students"™ perceptions of the use of the "Nomoi" board game as a medium for legal literacy learning. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed involving 83 students from a private senior high school in Bandung. The research instrument consisted of a Likert-scale questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and frequency analysis through SPSS version 27 to identify the dominant trends in students"™ perceptions. The results indicate that most students hold positive perceptions of Nomoi, particularly in terms of engagement, content understanding, and legal awareness. These findings suggest that Nomoi is not merely an educational game but serves as a component of critical citizenship pedagogy that fosters students"™ reflective legal consciousness. As a serious game, Nomoi supports the development of active, collaborative, and meaningful learning. It can be concluded that the integration of a law-based board game into Citizenship Education has significant potential to enhance students"™ legal literacy.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: Character education is a strategic agenda in Indonesia’s nation-building, particularly in responding to globalization, moral degradation, and youth intolerance. Within secondary education, religious extracurricular organizations such as the Mosque Youth Association (Ikatan Remaja Masjid) play a vital role in fostering religiosity while strengthening nationalism. This study investigates the role of the Mosque Youth Association in cultivating nationalist-religious character among students in three schools in Bandung: SMAN 18, SMKN 12, and MA Nurul Iman. Methodology: Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, document analysis, and field notes. Seventeen respondents were selected purposively: school principals, association mentors, leaders, members, government officials, and academic experts. Data analysis employed Miles and Huberman’s interactive model—data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing—validated through triangulation of sources, techniques, and time. Main Findings: The findings indicate that the Mosque Youth Association functions as a behavioral laboratory, shaping students’ nationalist-religious character through regular activities such as religious studies, congregational prayers, social service, and leadership training. Consistent habit formation occurs through positive reinforcement (recognition, trust, leadership opportunities) and negative reinforcement (warnings, social sanctions). Key challenges include fluctuating participation, limited resources, repetitive content, and digital demands addressed through program innovation, collaboration, and technology use. Novelty/Originality of this study: The study concludes that character development through the Mosque Youth Association aligns with behavioristic learning theory and provides insights for reinforcement-based character education compatible with the Merdeka Curriculum and the Pancasila Student Profile

Abstract

21st-century education requires collaboration and communication skills as students' core competencies, but social studies learning at the junior high school level still tends to be textual and lacks local potential. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design at SMPN 1 Wuluhan, Jember Regency, involving social studies teachers and grade VIII students through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, documentation, and questionnaires to 60 students, with data analysis of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña models validated through triangulation methods and member checking. The results show that the potential of the Wuluhan area—such as Papuma Beach, Watangan Hill, Reog craft center, and Charcoal Factory—provides an authentic learning experience that strengthens the connection of social studies materials with local reality; 91.6% of students consider field activities to be more meaningful than classroom learning. Collaboration skills are improving well, particularly in respecting friends' opinions (85%). In comparison, communication skills improve in listening (83%), although the courage to ask questions is still low (72%). Interviews and observations confirm that field learning encourages active participation, confidence, and more natural social interaction. The main supporting factors for implementation are the diversity of local potential, student enthusiasm, and community support, while obstacles include weather, transportation costs, and time constraints. Overall, this study confirms that the living laboratory is efficacious in improving the collaboration and communication skills of junior high school students through participatory contextual learning, while strengthening cultural identity and learning motivation, with the note that successful implementation requires strategies to mitigate technical constraints and synergistic support between schools, communities, and local governments.
