Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Civic Education (PKn) in instilling social care values among students at SMP Islam Qurani Al-Bahjah. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were obtained through observations, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The findings indicate that the development of social care values is carried out through the integration of the national curriculum with the school’s Islamic culture, manifested in social project activities, value habituation, teacher role modeling, as well as the synergy between civic and religious activities. Values such as empathy, cooperation, solidarity, mutual assistance, and social responsibility were found to develop significantly among students, as reflected in the increased prosocial behavior and heightened sensitivity to environmental needs. The main supporting factors include the school’s religious culture, strong teacher support, and a conducive pesantren-based environment, while the challenges include the heterogeneity of student characteristics, limited instructional time for Civic Education, and external environmental influences. These findings demonstrate that an integrative Civic Education model grounded in religious values can strengthen the formation of students’ social care character and make a significant contribution to the development of value-based civic education

Abstract

Civic education for young people plays a crucial role in strengthening national character, developing social literacy, and preparing responsible citizens who can participate meaningfully in a democratic society. This study analyzes the dynamics of contemporary youth, the role of Civic Education in character formation, the function of community social spaces as authentic arenas for civic learning, and strategic efforts to reinforce civic education in the digital era. A literature review method was employed by examining nationally indexed journals published within the last five years. The findings indicate that young people face challenges such as digital disruption, social polarization, and declining face-to-face interaction. Civic Education contributes significantly to building critical awareness, social empathy, and democratic competence, especially when linked to real-life civic practices in the community. This study concludes that strengthening civic education requires synergy among schools, families, communities, and the government to cultivate knowledgeable, ethical, and socially responsible young citizens capable of navigating the complexities of national life.

Abstract

This study aims to synthesize empirical evidence on the role of character strengths in strengthening student well-being in the digital era and to examine its implications for character education policy. Using a systematic literature review guided by the PRISMA framework, this study conducted identification, screening, and eligibility assessment processes, resulting in the inclusion of 26 peer-reviewed international articles published between 2011 and 2024 from Scopus, Web of Science, and ERIC databases. Data were analyzed through thematic synthesis to identify dominant digital risks, character strengths associated with well-being, and their functional roles. The findings indicate that digital risks do not exert deterministic effects on student well-being; rather, their impact is conditional and shaped by students’ character strengths. Self-regulation, hope, gratitude, perseverance, and critical thinking consistently emerged as key strengths that function as direct predictors, moderators, and mediators of student well-being. These findings highlight the importance of reframing character education from a moral–normative orientation toward a strength-based and evidence-informed approach. The study concludes that strengthening student well-being in the digital era requires sustained educational investment in character strengths as preventive psychological capacities that support adaptive digital engagement and flourishing.

Abstract

Encapsulation technology was developed to address the issues of limited bioavailability and instability associated with black soldier fly oil (BSFO). This research synthesized a nano-emulsion of BSFO utilizing the ultrasonication method, while varying the sources of antioxidants (black seed oil (BSO) and curcumin) and emulsifiers (polyethylene glycol (PEG), whey protein isolate, and Tween 80). The FTIR analysis revealed that the nanoemulsion samples displayed peaks at 3500–3000 cm-1 (O–H stretching), 2900–2700 cm-1 (N–H stretching), and 1700–1500 cm-1 (C=O stretching), suggesting the presence of BSFO, curcumin, BSO, and the characteristics of the emulsifiers. Particle size analysis (PSA) indicated that the emulsion had an average particle size (Z-average) of approximately 229–686 nm. The nan’oemulsion containing PEG showed reduced particle sizes of 218 and 229 nm compared to those with other emulsifiers, attributable to the inherently smaller size of PEG. The HB (BSO with PEG emulsifier) showed a reduced particle size due to the smaller molecular size of the antioxidant BSO compared to curcumin. The polydispersity index (PI) values for HB and CB (curcumin with PEG emulsifier) were 0.3 and 0.2, respectively, indicating relatively homogeneous particles, consistent with the criterion of a PI value below 0.4. Biological assays showed that CB had the highest DPPH inhibition at 83%, while curcumin exhibited 90%, exceeding that of BSO. The inhibition zones of HB are 2.45 cm for Staphylococcus aureus and 2.70 cm for Escherichia coli, representing the highest levels of inhibition. In this study, PEG is the best emulsifier for achieving a smaller nanoemulsion particle size. PEG facilitates the incorporation of BSFO with antioxidants, enhancing stability, efficacy, and bioavailability in various applications, particularly in the medical and food sectors.

Abstract

Although inquiry learning is widely recognized as an effective approach to promote critical thinking and active student engagement, its classroom implementation often remains procedural and less systematic, resulting in suboptimal learning quality. The Banathy Model, as a systems-based instructional design approach, offers a structured framework to strengthen inquiry learning processes. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Banathy Model as an innovation to improve the quality of inquiry learning in junior high school. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive case study design conducted at Sekolah Menengah Pertama 1 Arjasari, Bandung Regency. The participants consisted of five teachers and twenty seventh-grade students. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and documentation studies, and were analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. The findings indicate that the implementation of the Banathy Model enhances the quality of inquiry learning by promoting structured lesson planning, systematic learning stages, and active student participation. Students demonstrated increased engagement in group discussions, improved questioning skills, and greater involvement in problem-solving activities. The model also supported teachers in organizing inquiry-based instruction more effectively. The study contributes theoretically to the development of systems-based instructional design in inquiry learning and practically provides guidance for teachers and schools in implementing innovative learning models to improve classroom learning quality.
