Abstract

This study aims to develop an attitude assessment instrument for blended learning in junior high school social studies. The ADDIE development method was used, with qualitative and quantitative data sources. Qualitative data were obtained from interviews and observations, while quantitative data were obtained from the distribution of scores and the validity and reliability tests of the instrument. The results of the study indicate that the developed assessment instrument has gone through a series of feasibility tests, thus undergoing changes and refinements in the process until an attitude assessment instrument is ready for implementation. Ultimately, the attitude assessment instrument has met the criteria for validity and reliability. Reliability calculations also show that the developed instrument has a high level of reliability with a Cronbach's alpha value of 0.964 for attitude assessment in offline learning and 0.953 for attitude assessment in online learning. In addition, in its implementation, the attitude assessment instrument for blended learning is included in the practical category.

Abstract

From Reflection to Responsibility: A Conceptual Framework for Ethics and Value Formation in Social Studies Education. Objective: This study aims to analyze the role of reflective thinking in strengthening students’ values and ethics, particularly within the context of Social Studies Education. The focus is directed toward identifying relevant pedagogical strategies to enhance reflective thinking skills as a foundation for character formation and responsible citizenship in the 21st century. Method: This study employed a qualitative approach through a conceptual review designed to synthesize diverse literature related to reflective thinking, ethical education, and Social Studies pedagogy. The synthesis aims to construct a new conceptual framework that explains the interrelation between reflective thinking, ethical education, and the development of students’ moral and character values. Findings: The literature synthesis suggests that reflective thinking skills can be effectively developed through problem-based, project-based, and collaborative learning methods, supported by integrating digital technology to promote ongoing reflection. The process of strengthening values and ethics requires the integration of ethical content into learning materials, the implementation of character-based learning, the utilization of digital technology in reflective learning, and educators’ moral exemplification. Within the context of Social Studies Education, Kolb’s Reflective Model provides a practical framework linking experience, reflection, conceptualization, and application, enabling students to develop reflective thinking skills to analyze values, social issues, and ethical dimensions. Conclusion: Implementing learning practices that emphasize reflective thinking has the potential to produce graduates who not only master theoretical knowledge but also possess ethical awareness, character values, and civic competence in higher education. Further empirical research is recommended to examine the effectiveness of reflective learning models and their long-term impact on students’ character formation. Keywords: reflective thinking skills, values, ethics, social studies education, character development.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the need to understand the digital citizenship skills of high school students as part of strengthening Global Citizenship Education and integrating the Pancasila Education curriculum. The purpose of the research is to measure students' digital citizenship skills, identify strengths and weaknesses in each dimension, and provide recommendations for curriculum development. The method used was a quantitative survey with 896 respondents from public high schools in the city of Bandung. The instrument in the form of a Likert scale questionnaire covers four dimensions: Digital Access, Digital Communication, Digital Etiquette, and Digital Rights & Responsibilities. The results showed that students' skills were in the medium to high category, with strengths in the aspects of digital security and polite communication, while weaknesses were seen in the creativity of positive content and the ability to explain ideas clearly. These findings underscore the importance of learning that emphasizes not only technical literacy, but also critical communication, empathy, and productive contributions in the digital space. As a result, the results of this study provide an empirical basis for schools and policymakers in strengthening the Pancasila Education curriculum based on deep learning. The next recommendation is the need for longitudinal research and curriculum interventions to optimize the role of students as critical, ethical, and participatory digital citizens.

Abstract

This study explores the obstacles in implementing literacy habituation programs at SMPN 1 Tempuran and their implications for the development of students’ 21st-century competencies, namely critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration (4Cs). Employing a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that the literacy program, although structured through reading routines and digital resources, faces significant barriers such as inconsistent implementation, limited reading materials, low student motivation, and insufficient integration with collaborative learning. These issues hinder the development of higher-order thinking and communication skills. The study emphasizes the critical role of teachers as literacy facilitators and the need for contextual, reflective, and technology-integrated strategies to strengthen students’ competencies in a globalized digital era. This research further identifies three broad categories of obstacles: personal (low motivation and reading interest), institutional (limited integration of literacy into lessons, lack of relevant reading resources, and minimal teacher involvement), and socio-cultural (weak family and community support). The novelty of this study lies in its comprehensive mapping of literacy barriers within a multidimensional framework that connects structural, pedagogical, and cultural factors to the 4Cs, integrating perspectives from multiple stakeholders. The implications contribute to the development of more effective, inclusive, and future-oriented school literacy policies aimed at equipping students with the skills required to thrive in a global and digital society.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Civic Education (PKn) in instilling social care values among students at SMP Islam Qurani Al-Bahjah. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were obtained through observations, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The findings indicate that the development of social care values is carried out through the integration of the national curriculum with the school’s Islamic culture, manifested in social project activities, value habituation, teacher role modeling, as well as the synergy between civic and religious activities. Values such as empathy, cooperation, solidarity, mutual assistance, and social responsibility were found to develop significantly among students, as reflected in the increased prosocial behavior and heightened sensitivity to environmental needs. The main supporting factors include the school’s religious culture, strong teacher support, and a conducive pesantren-based environment, while the challenges include the heterogeneity of student characteristics, limited instructional time for Civic Education, and external environmental influences. These findings demonstrate that an integrative Civic Education model grounded in religious values can strengthen the formation of students’ social care character and make a significant contribution to the development of value-based civic education

Abstract

Civic education for young people plays a crucial role in strengthening national character, developing social literacy, and preparing responsible citizens who can participate meaningfully in a democratic society. This study analyzes the dynamics of contemporary youth, the role of Civic Education in character formation, the function of community social spaces as authentic arenas for civic learning, and strategic efforts to reinforce civic education in the digital era. A literature review method was employed by examining nationally indexed journals published within the last five years. The findings indicate that young people face challenges such as digital disruption, social polarization, and declining face-to-face interaction. Civic Education contributes significantly to building critical awareness, social empathy, and democratic competence, especially when linked to real-life civic practices in the community. This study concludes that strengthening civic education requires synergy among schools, families, communities, and the government to cultivate knowledgeable, ethical, and socially responsible young citizens capable of navigating the complexities of national life.
