Abstract

Tourist attractions are part of regional potential that can be used as a promotional event for cultural tourism. Of the many tourist attractions in Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regency, mapping of tourism potential based on folklore is still not optimal. In fact, many natural tourist attractions contain historical folklore that has developed in local communities since time immemorial. The problem arises because of the many folklore-based tourist attractions, only one or two tourist attractions are known to the public and visited by tourists. Therefore, it is necessary to map tourism potential to revive folklore in the community which is an asset of local wisdom as an effort to boost tourism. Another urgency is that many tourist attractions based on local wisdom are starting to become unattractive to tourists due to lack of promotion, causing these tourist attractions to be empty of visitors, even neglected and ultimately abandoned. Therefore, a marketing communication strategy is needed as an effort to attract the attention of tourists to create a creative economy from tourism. The urgency of this research is in line with the Strategic Plan (Renstra) of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy/ Baparekraf Indonesia 2020-2024 that the development of tourism destinations and the creative economy is a priority.

Abstract

Background: Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a squamous cell carcinoma originating from mucosal epithelium of the nasopharynx with complex disease progression. About 95% are caused by Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection which is characterized by the detection of viral gene product protein of Latent Membrane Protein-1 (LMP-1). Tumor growth and metastasis depend on the mechanism of angiogenesis. Interleukin-8 (IL-8) is a potent angiogenic factor and involved in the angiogenesis mechanism. Kirsten Rat Sarcoma (KRAS) is one of the proto-oncogenes that has an increased expression of more than 60% in NPC. The KRAS activation played a role in the modulation of IL-8 expression by triggering several important signaling pathways, which triggered neovascularization in the process of angiogenesis. Purpose: To determine the correlation between expression of LMP-1 with KRAS and IL-8, in mechanism of angiogenesis in NPC WHO type III. Method: Analytical observational study with a cross-sectional approach involving 30 paraffin blocks of biopsy tissue from NPC patients who had not received radiotherapy or chemotherapy. Expressions of LMP-1, KRAS, and IL-8 were examined with immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining method, and calculated using manual counting by Anatomic Pathologists. Result: Statistical analysis of LMP-1 expression with KRAS showed an insignificant positive correlation (p=0.546), with a correlation coefficient (ρ=0.115). The KRAS expression with IL-8 showed an insignificant positive correlation (p=0.851), with a correlation coefficient (ρ=0.036). The LMP-1 expression with IL-8 showed a significant positive correlation (p=0.042), with a correlation coefficient (ρ=0.321). Conclusion: The increase in the expression of LMP-1 was followed with the increase in the IL-8 expression.

Abstract

Stunting is a vital public health priority that affects millions of children from all over the world, especially in developing countries, where chronic malnutrition impairs their physical growth and cognitive development. Early detection of stunting is necessary for its timely intervention to reduce long-lasting effects. The following study deals with the application of higher-end machine learning techniques in order to detect stunting with more accuracy, using XGBoost, Random Forest, SVM, and k-NN algorithms. Using a dataset sourced from Kaggle, containing 10,000 samples of anthropometric and demographic features, we addressed the significant class imbalance of the data; the number of samples representing stunted children was only 15% of the total. We surmounted this limitation using SMOTE to generate synthetic data in order to balance the representation for this minority class. Further feature selection to improve the performance and interpretability of the model was done using backward elimination, where less impactful features like "Body Length" and "Breastfeeding" were systematically excluded, while putting more emphasis on more predictive variables such as weight, age, and socio-economic indicators. The evaluation of machine learning models showed significant improvements in performance with the integration of SMOTE and optimized feature selection, especially regarding recall and ROC-AUC metrics, which are critical in healthcare settings where the minimization of false negatives is of high importance. XGBoost was the best-performing model among those evaluated, yielding an accuracy of 0.8574, a recall of 0.8914, and an ROC-AUC of 0.9311, hence balancing precision and sensitivity more appropriately than other models. These results emphasize the efficiency of XGBoost in stunting detection while overcoming challenges arising from imbalanced datasets. It then illustrates the potential of merging machine learning techniques with synthetic data augmentation methodologies for the optimization of outcomes related to population health, and forms a basis for healthcare practitioners and policymakers by locating the at-risk children on time. The findings not only point to the importance of advanced data-driven approaches in stunting detection but also lay the ground for future research on machine learning applications in the fight against other malnutrition-related public health challenges, which could be crucial for improving child health and well-being across the world.
