Abstract

Dyscalculia is the inability to perform simple numerical calculations in everyday life. However, no one has researched this topic worldwide in about two years. This study aimed to investigate the research trends on dyscalculia through bibliometric studies and research issues related to dyscalculia in the Scopus database starting 2017 to October 2022. The sample consisted of 536 total documents. The results showed that scientific publications on dyscalculia fluctuated. In the next five years, its movements cannot be predicted. The highest number of document types is articles, which is 369. The number of cross-border documents from 2017 to 2022 is in the United States, as many as 75 papers, and in Italy, 74 copies. These two countries are more dominant on the topic of dyscalculia. Furthermore, 536 documents comprising 94.4% of articles were used in English. In general, in research on dyscalculia, researchers produce four out of five significant clusters: patient, approach, task, and grade. However, topics related to dyscalculia and mathematics often studied are deficit students, deficit addition and subtraction, mathematics difficulty, instruction, and primary school. The results can be used to shed light on developing tendencies in dyscalculia investigations and suggest directions for future studies.

Abstract

The advancement of augmented reality (AR) technology and its application in education presents an opportunity for pre-service teachers to incorporate it into the learning process, particularly in science subjects with abstract and microscopic materials. However, the adoption of AR technology among pre-service teachers remains suboptimal. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the factors influencing pre-service teachers’ adoption of AR in science learning. By employing partial least squares structural equation modeling, we gathered 211 responses through a questionnaire. The developed model has met the criteria of validity and reliability. The study’s findings reveal that perceived control and learning content significantly influence behavioral intention, while visual attraction and knowledge-ability do not. Clearly, their focus is on pedagogically implementing AR technology rather than visually developing it. Thus, it is recommended to provide training for pre-service teachers to apply AR science because many of them need an understanding of integrating this technology as a science learning media. This research implies offering insightful analysis and practical suggestions for the successful integration of AR technology into science learning, especially by addressing the variables affecting its uptake.

Abstract

Students frequently encounter alternative conceptions regarding physics, both before and after studying physics concepts. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the PODEW (Predict, Observe, Discuss, Explain, Write) strategy integrated with analogy-based learning in addressing these misconceptions. A mixed-method explanatory model was employed, involving both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Quantitative data were collected through pretests and posttests and analyzed using ANCOVA, N-Gain calculations, and effect size measurements. Qualitative data were obtained via interviews with selected students to provide further insights into the findings. The study involved 60 high school students from State Senior High School of Pandewu 1, with Grade 10 Science-1 (experimental group) utilizing the PODEW strategy with analogy and Grade 10 Science-2 (control group) employing the PODEW strategy without analogy. Results indicated a significant difference between the two groups, with the experimental group achieving an N-Gain score of 0.64 compared to 0.48 in the control group, indicating greater improvement in addressing alternative conceptions. Despite these improvements, some students in the experimental group shifted from scientific understanding to alternative conceptions, suggesting the need for further refinement of the strategy. Overall, the findings highlight the potential of the PODEW strategy with analogy in reducing misconceptions and improving students' conceptual understanding of Newton's Laws.
