Abstract

Background: When teeth are not positioned correctly, it is referred to as malocclusion, and it frequently happens in the general population. One of the traits of malocclusion that is frequently observed in children beginning in the early mixed dentition phase is crowded teeth. This disorder will become more serious and cause speech, masticatory, and cosmetic issues if therapy is not started right away. Environmental and genetic factors have a significant impact on malocclusion. Therefore, a child's nutrition, bad habits, trauma to the main teeth, and the pattern acquired from both parents will all affect the malocclusion's characteristics. Purpose: Enhance instruction in identifying malocclusion and the stages of permanent and changing tooth growth. Methods: Forty-six students from Madrasah Tsanawiyah's classes 7A and 7B participated. Intraoral examinations and the completion of pretest and posttest questionnaires were used to collect data. Next, Stastical Package Social Science (SPSS) version 23 was used to analyze the frequency distribution data. Results: Male students had more crowded teeth (20) and less crowded teeth (2) than female students (18) and less crowded teeth (6). Class I malocclusion (41), class II malocclusion (3), and class III malocclusion (2) are the highest. Conclusion: Malocclusion class I is characterized by the greatest number of crowded teeth in males aged 8 to 10 years.

Abstract

Introduction: Sweet corn (Zea mays saccharata Sturt) is one of the horticultural crops that is in great demand in Indonesia because of its distinctive sweet taste and relatively short production time. To improve the quality and quantity of hybrid sweet corn seed production, it is necessary to apply appropriate agronomic techniques, such as detasseling (removal of male flowers) and defoliation (pruning leaves). This study aims to determine the interaction between detasseling time and the number of leaves pruned on the production parameters of hybrid sweet corn. Methods: The study was conducted in Wringintelu Village, Puger, Jember, from August to December 2022, using a factorial randomized block design (RBD) with three replications. The treatments consisted of three detasseling times (48 DAP, 50 DAP, and 52 DAP) and three levels of defoliation (no defoliation, 2 leaves, and 4 leaves). Data were analyzed using ANOVA and continued with a 5% DMRT test if there was a significant effect. Results: The results showed that the interaction of detasseling time of 48 HST with 4-leaf defoliation gave the best results on the parameters of cob weight (78.55 g) and cob length (14.97 cm). Individually, the treatment of detasseling time of 48 HST produced the highest seed production per hectare of 18.44 tons, while 4-leaf defoliation produced a production of 18.17 tons per hectare. Conclusion: In conclusion, the combination of detasseling time of 48 HST and 4-leaf defoliation is the best treatment to increase the production of hybrid sweet corn seeds, so it can be a recommendation for agronomic practices to increase sweet corn productivity in Indonesia.

Abstract

Background: Sectio caesarean (SC) is increasingly common, with significant challenges for breastfeeding due to factors like postoperative pain and mobility limitations. Proper breast care can support milk production, yet many mothers lack adequate knowledge about its importance and techniques. Understanding the relationship between breast care knowledge and breastfeeding outcomes in post-SC mothers is critical to improving maternal and child health. Objective: This study aimed to examine the relationship between breast care knowledge and smooth breast milk production among post-SC mothers. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 30 post-SC mothers at Ibunda Mother and Child Hospitals, Tanah Laut, from September to November 2023. Participants were selected through accidental sampling. Data on breast care knowledge and milk production were collected using validated instruments and analyzed using chi-square tests. Results: Most respondents had sufficient breast care knowledge (73%), and 90% reported smooth breast milk production. However, no significant association was found between breast care knowledge and milk production (p = 0.78). This indicates that while knowledge is vital, other factors such as psychological and physiological conditions also play a role. Conclusion: Although most participants demonstrated good knowledge and milk production, this study highlights that breastfeeding success is multifactorial, requiring holistic approaches that address physical, psychological, and social dimensions. Integrating education with practical support could enhance breastfeeding outcomes.
