Abstract

The research aims to constructthe paper test to assess the higher order thinking skills of high school students. The research was designed based on Borg and Gall research method. Firstly, test from national examination, formative and summative test, and also the test written in  high school Biology textbook commonly used in Surakarta were analyzed, and it found that most of the test are to measure the lower order thinking skills. Draft of HOTS on reproductive system then been formulated, and validated by three experts and teachers on three aspects, i.e. language, content, and construction of the instrument. The test was divided into two packages, A and B, each consists of 15-multiple choice items, and 5 essays. Test have to be finished in 60 minutes. To test the visibility of the instrument, a First Trial had been done to a small number of students. Obtained data was quantitively analyzed using theMicroCatITEMAN program version 3.00 for the multiple choice to check reliability, level of difficulty, discriminating index and effectiveness of the distractor, while the essay was analyzed using the Microsoft Excel for reliability, level of difficulty, as well as discriminating index. The result shows that A type test consists of 43 % of items were accepted, 24% item revised, and 33 % rejected. While the B test package has 62% item were accepted, 33 % item were revised, and 5 % item were rejected.Keywords: Assessment , High Order Thinking Skills, Reproductive System

Abstract

ABSTRAKPenelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mengevaluasi kemampuan menulis argumentatif calon guru biologi meningkat setelah mereka mendapatkan pembelajaran inkuiri berjenjang. Partisipan dalam penelitian tindakan kelas ini adalah mahasiswa semester 4 di Program Studi Pendidikan Biologi Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta yang menempuh mata kuliah Embriologi Tumbuhan. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif melalui wawancara, pengamatan kelas dan portofolio. Kemampuan menulis diukur menggunakan Toulmin’s Argument Pattern (TAP) yang meliputi empat komponen, yaitu data, warrants, backings, dan claims. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada akhir siklus kedua terjadi peningkatan skor keterampilan berpikir argumentatif pada setiap aspeknya di semua tingkatan jenjang inkuiri. Calon guru biologi yang telah berpengalaman dalam inkuiri berjenjang menunjukkan kemampuan menulis argumentasi yang lebih baik sehingga disimpulkan bahwa pembelajaran dengan inkuiri berjenjang sesuai diterapkan untuk mendukung berbagai aktivitas inkuiri dan meningkatkan kemampuan menulis argumentatif. ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study was to evaluate biology teacher candidates’s argumentative writing skill after they participated in hierarchy of inquiry learning. The participants of this action research are the 4th semester students of Biology Teacher Education Program Faculty of Teacher Training and Education Sebelas Maret University who took the course of Plant Embryology. Data were analyzed descriptively through interviews with experts, classroom observations, and student portfolios. The argumentative writing was measured using Toulmin’s Argument Pattern (TAP) with four kinds of argument elements, which include data, warrants, backings, and claims. The results showed that the argumentative writing skill was increased, in every aspect and levels of inquiry. Biology teacher candidates who had well-experienced in the hierarchy of inquiry outperformed argumentative writing skill, thus it can be concluded that Hierarchy of Inquiry Learning is suitable in fostering teacher candidates to do some inquiry activities, and positively impacted argumentative writing skill.

Abstract

Memory is a structured system and causes organisms to be able to record facts and use knowledge to guide their behavior. Memory is also said to be a tool that serves to capture, process and use it when needed. Memory takes place through three processes, namely encoding, storage, and retrieval. The brain works through the information process by processing information through sensory stimulation and storing it into memory and involving thinking activities. Increasing the potential for creative thinking, the incoming stimulus is determined by personal situational factors. The purpose of this literature study is to find out that creative thinking is the result of information processing that occurs in human memory. The results of this literature study show that situational factors that are external or attention getter and prominent characteristics such as visual movements, novelty, clarity (fluency), new and extraordinary stimuli attract attention so that they can influence positive perception that goes into short-term memory. Through thinking activities, one's ideas and concepts developed through the process of relationships between the parts of information stored in him. Thinking is done to understand reality in order to make decisions (decision making), problem-solving (problem-solving) and produce new ones (creativity).

Abstract

This study aims to design a Scientific Reading-based Inquiry (SRbI) model that supports argumentation skills development. The assessment of these skills refers to the Toulmin Argument Pattern (TAP), and the participants were Biology Education students in a state university. Furthermore, the Design-based Research (DBR) approach was adopted by combining exploratory studies, trials, and case studies as part of an iterative process. The intervention was formed based on design principles derived from literature review and findings from exploratory studies. Also, observations were made during the trial and intervention process. Data in assessments and observations of written and oral arguments were collected and descriptively analyzed. The study, in three iterations, produced a framework as the basis for the SRbI learning model, with five phases: Reading Orientation, Recapturing, Processing, Communicating, and Reviewing. Therefore, the application of this learning model had a significant impact on the development of students’ argumentation skills.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the perceptions of SD Angkasa Colomadu teachers on online science learning during the pandemic. This research used descriptive qualitative research methods and a case study approach. The subjects of this study were three teachers of grades IV, V, and VI SD Angkasa Colomadu in the academic year 2020/2021. Data collection techniques used interviews and documentation. The data validity test techniques used the triangulation technique. Data analysis techniques used interactive analysis techniques Miles and Huberman consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusions. The results show that the teachers felt that learning sciences in the network was not optimal. Teachers do not optimally apply basic process skills. The teachers feel the limitation in the communication process.  They also have a restriction on directing the students to formulate hypotheses, conclude the material, guide experimental activities, attract students to ask questions, guide the measurement process, guide observation activities, classify, interpret, and predict processes due to media limitations. On the other hand, teachers feel that online learning makes teachers more innovative, creative, and able to take advantage of cellphones, computers, and the internet in learning activities, especially in learning science online during the pandemic period.

EFEKTIFITAS MODUL SISTEM IMUNITAS BERBASIS PEMBELAJARAN INQUIRY DALAM MEMEBERDAYAKAN KETRAMPILAN PEMIKIRAN KRITIS SISWA AbstractThis research aimed to find out the effectiveness of inquiry lesson (IL)-based immunity system module product to empower the students’ critical thinking skill. This study was quasi-experimental research with pretest-posttest control group design nonequivalent. The participant or subject of research consisted of 67 Senior High School students in Kediri in Academic Year of 2016/2017 distributed in two classes: 33 students in the 11th Natural Science 2 Grade as experiment class and 34 students in the 11th Natural Science 3 Grade as existing class. The instrument used to collect data on critical thinking skill was essay test. Experiment class was treated using inquiry lesson-based module, and existing class using module commonly used at school. Data analysis employed t-test at significance level with p-value = 0.000 (p<0.05). The gap between pre- and posttest scores was 20.99% for experiment class and 10.76% for existing class. From the result of research, it could be concluded that learning using inquiry lesson (IL)-based immunity system in learning process is very significant to empower the students’ critical thinking skill.AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keefektifan produk modul sistem imunitas berbasis inquiry lesson (IL) untuk memberdayakan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuasi-eksperimental dengan pretest-posttest control group design nonequivalent. Partisipan subjek penelitian dilakukan di salah satu Sekolah Menengah Atas di Kediri tahun Akademik 2016/2017 berjumlah 67 siswa didistribusikan di dua kelas yaitu 33 siswa kelas XI IPA 2 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan 34 siswa kelas XI IPA 3 sebagai kelas eksiting. Instrumen test keterampilan berpikir kritis menggunakan test essay. Perlakuan penelitian pada kelas eksperimen menggunakan modul berbasis inquiry lesson dan kelas eksiting menggunakan modul umum yang digunakan di sekolah. Analisis data menggunakan uji-t pada taraf signifiansi nilai p = 0,000 (p<0,05). Gap skor pra dan pasca tes adalah 20,99% kelas eksperimen sedangkan kelas eksiting 10,76%. Hasil penelitian disimpulkan bahwa pembelajaran menggunakan modul sistem imunitas berbasis inquiry lesson (IL) dalam proses pembelajaran sangat signifikan untuk memberdayakan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa.Permalink/DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.15408/es.v10i1.7259

Abstract

In the 21st century, the pre-service science teachers faced on extremely global competitiveness, globalization, technologically driven by information and rapidly media-saturated that needs appropriate skills to meet these challenges. The aims of this study is to identify pre-service science teacher perception about high order thinking skills (HOTs) in 21st century. This study employed quantitative design using a survey research method involved 120 pre-service science teachers from Tanjungpura University. The results of this study indicated that prospective science teachers have an awareness of the importance of HOTs and their also knowing that the learning do emphasized on the aspects of HOTs is essential to face the challenges of the 21st century. It is indicated by the mean score of pre-service science teacher perception about the important of HOTs to meet the challenges in the 21st century (M = 4.29, SD = 0.61) and the skills of HOT that their will be required to becomes a teacher in the 21st century (M = 4.31; SD = 0.47) in the high level.  This result provides the reasons why we need cultivating a positive awareness of the importance of HOTs in order to fostering the need for teaching that emphasizes the aspects of HOTs during pre-service education.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to see the effectiveness of the GIL-based human digestive system unit learning to improve students' creative thinking skills. The study used a quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group design which was carried out during the Covid-19 pandemic by distance learning. The research subjects were junior high school students in class VIII even semester of the 2020/2021 academic year which were divided into 2 classes, namely the experimental class and the control class. The results of this research and development stated that the GIL-based human digestive system unit learning can improve students' creative thinking skills. The results of the independent sample t-test from the gain score of the experimental class and the control class obtained significance of 0.000, meaning that there was a difference between the score before and after the unit learning was given, so it can be concluded that the use of GIL-based learning unit was effective for improving students' creative thinking skills. The total effect caused by the use of GIL-based learning units was carried out using an effect size analysis with cohen’s d of 1.01, which implied that the GIL-based unit learning had a great influence in improving students' creative thinking skills.

Abstract

Tuntutan di era kemajuan pendidikan dalam abad 21 dalam kurikulum 2013 revisi 2017 memiliki keterampilan yang harus saling berkesinambungan dalam mencetak peserta didik yang berkarakter dan memiliki wawasan ilmiah. Dalam proses pembelajaran sains di tingkat satuan Pendidikan khususnya tingkat menengah pertama dalam mata pelajaran ipa masih perlu adanya perbaikan bahan ajar yang di perbaharui guna peningkatan kompetensi siswa. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisa daya serap UN pada satuan pendidikan tersebut. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan metode penelitian deskriptif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah peserta didik kelas XI SMP Boyolali. Data hasil UN siswa 3 tahun terakhir dikumpulkan menggunakan data Pusat Penilaian Pendidikan Nasional (PusPenDikNas) dan dianalisis menggunakan instrumen Standar Nasional Pendidikan (SNP) sebanyak 8 Standar. Hasil analisis dari bahan ajar yang digunakan di sekolah tersebut  menunjukkan bahwa persentase gab atau permasalahan tertinggi pada standar proses yaitu sebesar 4,63 %. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa bahan ajar yang masih di gunakan di sekolah perlu untuk ditingkatkan, oleh karena itu bahan ajar harus menjadi perhatian dalam proses pembelajaran sains siswa.The demands in the era of educational progress in the 21st century in the 2013 revised 2017 curriculum have skills that must be mutually sustainable in producing students who have character and have scientific insight. In the process of learning science at the education unit level, especially the junior secondary level in science subjects, it is still necessary to improve teaching materials which are updated to increase student competence. The purpose of this study was to analyze the absorption of the National Examination in the education unit. This research was conducted by descriptive research method. The subjects of this study were students of class XI SMP Boyolali. Data on student exam results for the last 3 years was collected using data from the National Education Assessment Center (PusPenDikNas) and analyzed using the National Education Standards (SNP) instrument as many as 8 standards. The results of the analysis of the teaching materials used in the school showed that the highest percentage of problems or problems in the standard process was 4.63%. This shows that teaching materials that are still used in schools need to be improved, therefore teaching materials must be a concern in the students' science learning process.

Abstract

Pemanfaatan potensi lokal merupakan salah satu alternatif yang dapat digunakan untuk membantu siswa mempelajari materi biologi. Penggunaan modul DiscoveryLearning (DL) dengan menggunakan potensi lokal Umbul Tlatar diharapkan dapat mempermudah pemahaman siswa terutama pada materi struktur tumbuhan. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu untuk: 1) mengetahui karakteristik modul DL; 2) mengetahui kelayakan modul DL; 3) mengetahui efektivitas modul DL terhadap keterampilan regulasi diri dan sikap kepedulian lingkungan peserta didik. Metode penelitian menggunakan model penelitian dan pengembangan Borg&Gall yang dimodifikasi yaitu: 1)penelitian pendahuluan dan pengumpulan informasi 2) perencanaan 3)pengembangan desain produk awal 4)uji coba kelompok kecil 5)revisi produk utama 6)uji lapangan terbatas 7)revisi produk akhir. Instrumen yang digunakan meliputi: angket, observasi, wawancara dan tes. Data yang diperoleh yaitu data hasil validasi ahli, validasi praktisi pendidikan. Hasil uji coba dianalisis secara deskriptif kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian dan pengembangan menunjukkan 1) karakteristik modul dikembangkan berdasarkan sintaks Discovery Learning meliputi: stimulation, problem statement, data collection, data processing,  verification  dan generalization,  2) Modul dinyatakan layak oleh ahli materi, ahli penyajian modul, ahli perangkat pembelajaran. Modul dinyatakan layak oleh guru dan siswa, 3) Hasil uji operasional terkait regulasi diri menunjukkan signifikansi 0,00<0,05 dan hasil uji operasional  terkait kepedulian lingkungan menunjukkan signifikansi 0,00<0,05, disimpukan modul Discovery Learning(DL) dengan potensi lokal Umbul Tlatar  bermanfaat secara efektif dapat meningkatkan regulasi diri dan sikap kepedulian lingkungan siswa SMA.Development of discovery learning module plant structures by using potential of umbul tlatar area to enhance self regulation capability and awarness toward  environment attitude of high school students. Utilization of local potential is an alternative that can be used to help students learn biological material. The use of the Discovery Learning (DL) module by using the potential of Umbul Tlatar area is expected to facilitate students' understanding, especially in plant structure materials. The purpose of this research is to: 1) knowing the characteristics of DL modules; 2) knowing the feasibility of the DL module; 3) knowing the effectiveness of the DL module on the ability of self regulation and the Awarness toward environment of students. The research method uses a modified Borg & Gall research and development model, namely: 1) preliminary research and information gathering 2) planning 3) initial product design development 4) small group trials 5) main product revisions 6) limited field tests 7) product revisions. The instruments that used include: questionnaires, observation, interviews and tests. The data obtained are the results of expert validation data, validation of education practitioners, and the results of the trial were analyzed quantitatively descriptively. The results of research and development show 1)module characteristics developed based on discovery learning syntax include: stimulation, problem statement, data collection, data processing, verification, and generalization 2) the module is feasible declared by material experts, module presentation experts, learning device experts.  The module is declared appropriate by teachers and students 3) the operational test results related to self-regulation show a significance 0.00 <0.05 and the results of operational tests related to environmental care show a significance 0.00 <0.05, it can be concluded that the Discovery Learning module (DL) by using the local potential of useful Umbul Tlatar effectively in improving self-regulation and environmental care attitudes of high school students.
