Abstract

Self-directedness is a crucial skill for prospective science teachers, and the Think-Pair-Project-Share (TP2S) model has shown promise in fostering collaboration and critical thinking. This aim study to investigates the effectiveness of TP2S in promoting self-directed learning among these future educators. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of the think-pair-project-share (TP2S) learning model in facilitating the self-directedness of prospective science teachers. This quantitative research uses a nonequivalent control group design. The population in this study were second semester students, while the research sample consisted of 72 students. The self-directedness data collection technique uses an instrument in the form of a scale. Based on the results of the paired sample T test, it can be seen that both experimental classes obtained a Sig value. (2-tailed) 0.000. It can be concluded that the paired sample T test value in the experimental class is 0.000<0.05 so that there is a significant difference in results between the pretest and posttest scores (H0 is rejected). It can be concluded that there is a difference in self-directedness between students who study human and environmental subjects using the think pair project share model and those who use the conventional model. It is known that the application of the TP2S learning model has an effect on the self-directedness of prospective science teachers. The implications of this research support and strengthen the results of theoretical studies that the TP2S learning model is a student-centered learning model that utilizes the ability to manage learning strategies independently.

Abstract

This study discusses analysis level of difficulty in the aspect of analytical thinking skills in science learning with the aim of providing insights on how students and educators can address these difficulties, ultimately contributing to a more effective science education system that fosters critical and analytical thinkers. By using the research methods The study used a quantitative methods using Rasch analysis and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) to determine the level of difficulty of students' analytical thinking skills aspects. Based on the analysis, the aspects of "specifying (54%)" and "generalizing (55%)" were found to be the most difficult for students, while the aspects of "analizyng error (62%)", "matching (68)" and "classifying (73%)" were considered easier. These findings also indicate that students tend to struggle with identifying the logical consequences of information and in constructing generalizations or new principles.

Abstract

One of the most prevalent health problems in Indonesia is anemia, particularly among adolescent girls, where concerns about excessive weight gain may reduce adherence to iron supplementation. Spirulina is a potential alternative supplement rich in iron and nutrients that support hematopoiesis and may address these concerns. This study aimed to analyze the effect of spirulina supplementation on body weight in anemic adolescent female Wistar rats. This experimental study used 25 female Wistar rats divided into five groups: normal control (NC) received a standard BR diet, positive control (PC) received a low-iron diet to induce anemia, and three treatment groups received spirulina at doses of 25, 50, and 100 mg/kg body weight (T1–T3) for 21 days. Body weight was measured before anemia induction, after anemia induction, and following supplementation. The results showed a significant overall difference in body weight gain among the groups (p < 0.001), which was mainly driven by differences between the normal control and positive control groups. However, post hoc analysis indicated no significant differences in body weight gain between the positive control group and treatment groups 1, 2, and 3 (p > 0.05). Body weight in the treatment groups increased by 22.8–27 g, indicating recovery toward baseline values. Although these differences were not statistically significant, spirulina supplementation may contribute to anemia recovery, as reflected by improvements in body weight. In conclusion, spirulina shows potential as a nutritional supplementation strategy that does not induce excessive weight gain while supporting iron-related nutritional needs.

Abstract

Spirulina is a microalga with spiral or linear trichome shapes that has potential in industrial and food sectors due to its rich nutritional content. Spirulina can live in various aquatic habitats with different environmental conditions. Differences in cultivation environments can affect the morphological characteristics of Arthrospira due to phenotypic plasticity, making morphology-based identification prone to errors. Therefore, molecular identification using the 16S rRNA gene for phylogenetic analysis is necessary. This study aims to identify and analyze the genetic relationships of Spirulina from freshwater and brackish water based on 16S rRNA gene sequences. Freshwater Spirulina samples were taken from Bogor (BGR) and Yogyakarta (MRP), while brackish water Spirulina was taken from Jepara (JPR). DNA extraction was performed using the Zymo Research Quick-DNA Fungal/Bacterial Miniprep Kit, amplification of the 16S rRNA gene was conducted through PCR, followed by DNA sequencing. Phylogenetic analysis was carried out using MEGA11 to construct the phylogenetic tree. The morphology of strains BGR and MRP showed straight and thin filaments, whereas JPR had spiral and relatively long filaments. Sequencing analysis results showed that strains JPR and MRP had the closest homology similarity to Arthrospira sp. IAQUASC-C0001 with percentages of 99.34% and 99.12%, respectively. Meanwhile, Spirulina from BGR had the closest homology similarity to Arthrospira fusiformis strain AICB 668 with a percentage of 99.78%. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that strains BGR, JPR, and MRP are more closely related to Arthrospira than to Limnospira.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of using biotechnology e-modules for eco-enzyme production, based on the SETS (Science, Environment, Technology, and Society) approach, on the problem-solving skills of ninth-grade junior high school students. A quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group was employed. The sample consisted of two classes, each comprising 32 students, divided into an experimental class and a control class. The main instrument was a problem-solving skills test based on Polya’s indicator. Data were analyzed using ANCOVA after confirming the assumptions of normality and homogeneity of variance. The results revealed a significant difference between the average posttest scores of the experimental class (80.562) and the control class (46.094), with a significance level of 0.000 (p 0.05). The R² value of 0.952 indicates a powerful influence of the e-module on the improvement of problem-solving skills. This e-module facilitates students’ contextual understanding of biotechnology concepts through the eco-enzyme production project, thereby supporting the development of 21st-century skills. The study recommends the use of SETS-based e-modules as a contextual, innovative, and applicable alternative to traditional learning in science education.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the level of digital literacy of elementary school teachers, especially in the technological dimension. Based on the Law of the Republic of Indonesia No. 14 of 2005 concerning Teachers and Lecturers, article 20 verse 2, teachers are required to be able to use technology. However, in reality, many teachers still have a low ability in using technology. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach. The subjects in this study were teachers of grades 1 to 6 coming from six different elementary schools. The classroom teacher's digital literacy level was measured using a test technique. The results of the study showed that teachers of grade 1, grade 2, grade 3, and grade 4 had low digital literacy categories, while teachers of grade 5 had moderate digital literacy categories, and teachers of grade 6 had a very low category of digital literacy. Based on these results, it can be concluded that there is no equality in the digital literacy abilities of classroom teachers in elementary schools.
