Abstract

This study aimed to describe major learning styles and learning strategies used by a research subject from four years of a college student of English Education Study Program. It was a qualitative study and conducted through a case study design. The subject was a successful four years college student. The data was collected through questionnaires, interviews, and documents. Two questionnaires were administered, Perceptual Learning Style Preferences Questionnaire (PLSPQ) to determine the student learning style preferences, whereas, Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) to determine the student learning strategies. A semi-structured interview was applied to gain the primary data, while, the document was provided to support it. The results revealed that the successful language learner performed two major learning styles proposed by Reid (1984), i.e. visual, in which the subject learns best by reading and taking notes; and the individual, in which the subject learns better individually. Subsequently, the subject uses two major learning strategies proposed by Oxford (1990). The first learning strategy is the cognitive strategy includes practicing along with receiving and sending messages. The second strategy is the compensation strategy includes guessing intelligently in listening and reading and overcoming limitations in speaking and writing.

Abstract

In the backdrop of the evolving game-based educational platforms from online resources, language researchers have directed their attention toward the utilisation of ClassDojo due to its multifunctionality, which includes many features such as attendance tracking, messaging, portfolio management, games, and more. This qualitative systematic review examined the existing research on using ClassDojo in the classroom. The purposes were to provide evidence of ClassDojo for teachers, students, or parents and to identify the study characteristics, such as the publication trends, participant profiles, or the methodological approaches from the published research about ClassDojo. The initial database search used Publish and Perish (PoP) version 8 and identified as many as 174 published research. However, twenty-three journal articles were selected after conducting the screening process by applying inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results from the analysis of 23 articles found that articles released in 2021 (n = 6) were the most frequently used in this systematic review study. Then, for the education level of participants, the elementary education settings received the most attention (n = 6). Additionally, experimental design (n = 7) was the methodology most frequently employed by the study under investigation. Furthermore, the reviewed studies also show that ClassDojo is mainly used as a teaching and learning media (n = 8). Thus, the productive use of ClassDojo was recommended because it can effectively manage student behavior, promote positive classroom management, and enhance parent engagement. Therefore, ClassDojo can potentially enhance online interaction in the class and provide a community to share classroom activities privately or publicly among teachers, students, and parents.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an E-Book for accounting practicum and evaluate user responses to its implementation. A needs analysis revealed that 48 out of 51 students lacked access to learning resources and required instructional media, correlating with their suboptimal learning outcomes. The research utilizes a Research and Development (R&D) approach, specifically employing the 4D model. The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) Questionnaire was administered to gauge user feedback. The participants included 51 eleventh-grade students from SMKS Filadelfia Pemangkat. Data analysis involved both qualitative and quantitative descriptive methods to address the research questions regarding the E-Book's design, user feedback, and any significant disparities in responses based on socio-economic status. The E-Book, developed using Canva and edited with Heyzine, comprises 2 chapters, 4 videos, 2 Excel files, and 2 online quizzes. User responses from small and large group trials were overwhelmingly positive, categorized as "Strongly Agree." Further analysis indicated that students from higher socio-economic backgrounds had a higher median score (3.95) compared to those from moderate (3.50) and underprivileged backgrounds (3.00). These findings suggest significant differences in user responses based on socio-economic status.

The purpose of this current study was to figure out the effectiveness of the implementation Preview, Question, Read, Reflect, Recite, Review (PQ4R) Method to teach students' reading comprehension on YouTube. Using simple random sampling technique, 33 students were selected from VIII C grade students of SMPN 01 Siantan in academic year 2022/2023. The data analysis method of this study was pre-experimental research with pre-test and post-test one group design model which the experiment carried out only in one group without comparison group. The result of this study revealed that before treatment was given, the students’ mean score was 51.97, while in contrast, the mean score of after treatment was 80.76. In data analysis, the result of the effect size computation was 1.88 which was indicated as strong effect. It can be recommended that junior high school teachers to implement PQ4R learning method to enhance students’ reading comprehension.
