Abstract

  Abstract The purpose of this research was to improve students’ writing descriptive texts  of the eighth grade at SMPN 3 Anjongan in Mempawah Regency. The researcher employed Jane Willis’ Task – Based Language Teaching (TBLT) framework which consisted of (1) Pre-task, (2) Task cylce and (3) Language focus. Moreover, the creative task which involved the authentic media that was tourist brochure energized the students enthusiastic in teaching learning process.The study results were derived from quantitative and qualitative data yielded from the action research designed. The result shown that the application of TBLT framework to teach writing descriptive through creative task (tourist brochure) could successfully improve students’ ability in writing. The findings also revealed that tourist brochure’s effective implementation required proper time management as well as sufficient teacher’s guidance during the writing process.   Keywords: Task – Based  Language Teaching, Writing Descriptive Text, Creative Task. Abstrak Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah meningkatkan kemampuan menulis teks deskriptif pada peserta didik kelas delapan di SMPN 3 Anjongan di Kabupaten Mempawah. Peneliti melaksanakan kerangka Pembelajaran Bahasa Berbasis Tugas (TBLT) dari Jane Willis yang terdiri dari (1) Pre-task, (2) Siklus Task  and (3) Fokus Kebahasaan. Terlebih lagi, Tugas yang Kreatif melibatkan media otentitk berupa brosur wisata memicu antusiasme para peserta didik dalam proses pembelajaran. Hasil peneletian terdiri dari data kuantitatif dan data kualitatif pada penelitian tindakan kelas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa aplikasi kerangka TBLT pada pengajaran menulis deskriptif melalui Kreatif Task (brosur wisata) dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis para peserta didik. Hasil penelitian juga menunjukkan bahwa implementasi brosur wisata efektif bila penggunaaan pengaturan waktu yang baik begitu pula bimbingan dari guru selama proses kegiatan menulis berlangsung. Abstract

AbstractThis research was aimed to improve students’ vocabulary of song lyrics through video clip to the class XI IIS 1 of SMA Negeri 1 Kelam Permai in Academic Year 2018/2019. The method used in this research was Classroom Action Research. The subject of this research was XI IIS 1 with 29 students. The tools of data collection were observational checklist table, field note, and test. This research was done in two cycles. The result from the data analysis showed that video clip could improve students’ vocabulary. Listening and reading to the song lyrics from the video clip could improve students’ spelling in written form and pronunciation achievement. Video clip had also improved the behavior of the students towards the teaching and learning process as can be seen from the students’ activeness in each cycle. It also can be seen from the improvement of the mean score in cycle 1 which was 60 became 82.5 in spelling test and from 73.21 became 84.64 in pronunciation test. This data showed that students’ achievement was improved significantly. As the conclusion, the researcher concluded that using video clip had successfully improved the students’ vocabulary especially in spelling in written form, and pronunciation.Keywords: Video Clips, Vocabulary Spelling and Pronunciation, Song Lyrics, Classroom Action Research.

Abstract

  Abstract: The purpose of this study was to develop reading materials in form of Pop Up handouts. The method applied by the researcher was  ADDIE method which covered five phases; analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Pop Up handouts played a role as a supplementary material in teaching reading narrative text. Pop Up handouts are books that consist of  two stories and sets of three dimensional pictures which are able to fold and rise automatically. The thick papers were used as the basis for the texts and the illustration. The illustrations of the handouts were originally designed by the researcher. The study was conducted at SMPN 19 Pontianak in academic year 2015/2016. From evaluation phase, Pop Up handouts achieved a satisfying score based on the validation by the experts which was classified as very good with 85% without any revision. Besides, the product was applicable to be used by the teachers to teach narrative text. Metode yang diterapkan oleh peneliti adalah metode ADDIE yang mencakup lima tahap penelitian; analisis, pembuatan, pengembangan, penerapan, dan evaluasi. Pop Up handouts berperan sebagai materi tambahan dalam mengajar bacaan teks naratif. Pop Up handouts merupakan buku yang berisi dua buah cerita serta gambar-gambar tiga dimensi yang dapat dilipat dan berdiri secara otomatis. Kertas tebal digunakan sebagai dasar untuk teks dan ilustrasinya. Ilustrasi-ilustrasi dalam Pop Up handouts secara murni dibuat oleh peneliti sendiri. Penelitian ini dilakukan di SMPN 19 Pontianak pada tahun ajaran 2015/2016. Dari tahap terakhir, yaitu tahap evaluasi, Pop Up handouts mencapai hasil yang sangat memuaskan dengan skor 85% tanpa ada perbaikan. Abstract

Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menggambarkan kecenderungan motivasi mahasiswa-mahasiswa dalam belajar bahasa Inggris di kelas. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan menggunakan metode deskripsi. Peneliti menggunakan daftar pertanyaan dan wawancara sebagai alat-alat pengumpul data. Data penelitian ini diambil dari mahasiswa-mahasiswa Program Studi Bahasa Inggris semester dua, empat dan enam tahun 2011/2012.  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa-mahasiswa semester dua, empat dan enam mempunyai pola motivasi yang kurang lebih sama. Terdapat juga tujuh faktor-faktor yang berpengaruh terhadap motivasi para mahasiswa dalam belajar bahasa Inggris, yaitu: goals, needs, interest and coriosity, attitude, expectancy and self efficacy, lecturers as the role model, course content and classroom, dan social identity.   Kata Kunci: Motivasi, kecenderungan motivasi   Abstract:This research entitled The Investigation of The English Education Study Program Students’ Motivation Trend in Learning English. The purpose of this research is to describe students’ motivation trend in learning English in the classroom. This research was done in descriptive study. The researcher used questionnaire and interview as the tools of collecting data. The research data are taken from 2nd, 4th, and 6th semester students of English Education Study Program year 2011/2012. The research finding showed that 2nd, 4th, and 6th semester students have more or less same patterns of motivation. There are also seven factors that contribute to students motivation in learning English, they are: goals, needs, interest and coriosity, attitude, expectancy and self efficacy, lecturers as the role model, course content and classroom, and social identity. Abstract

Abstract : This research was conducted a pre experimental study to know how significant of Venn Diagram Technique for teaching descriptive text. This study was conduct on the second grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Sungai Raya in academic year 2015/2016. In this research,  the researcher propose a technique. The name’s Venn Diagram technique that focus on the similarities and the differences between two text of descriptive text .The data of study was derived from pre-test and pos- test. The sample is 28 students in XI IPA 1 . The finding of research show that the student’s achievement in reading comprehension got significantly improved. The result of the research was compare from the pre-test  score 68,77and the post- test score 81,96. Furthermore the effect size of the significant improvement of the treatment was 1,95. It is categorized as highly effective since it is higher than 0,80 in the highly effective criteria. Studi ini dilakukan pada siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 2 Sungai Raya tahun ajaran 2015/2016. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti mengusulkan sebuah tehnik. Nama tehnik tersebut yaitu tehnik Diagram Venn yang fokus pada persamaan dan perbedaan antara dua buah teks deskriptif. Data pada studi ini berasal dari pre-tes dan post-tes. Sampelnya adalah 28 siswa dari kelas XI IPA 1. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa prestasi siswa dalam memahami bacaan meningkat secara signifikan. Hasil penelitian ini membandingkan nilai dari pre-test 68,77 dan nilai post-test 81,96. Selanjutnya ukuran efek dari peningkatan yang signifikan dari perlakuan adalah 1,95. Itu dikategorikan sebagai sangat efektif karena lebih tinggi dari 0,80 dalam kriteria sangat efektif. Kata Kunci : Tehnik Diagram Venn, Teks Deskriptif, membaca

Abstract

AbstractThis research concentrated on academic self-concept (ASC) of the students at Hidayatul Muslimin 1, Islamic Junior High Boarding School Kubu Raya who have high and low academic achievement (ACA) in English class. The sample consisted of 27 girl students. It was classified into 10 students who marked as high achievers and 17 others who marked as low achievers from eight class. The method of this research was descriptive and correlation. ASC was measured through Academic Self Concept Scale while ACA was measured from students’ English Mid Term Test scores. The mean score of ASC from high achievers is 64.20 classified as positive academic self-concept while from low achievers is 12.44 classified as negative academic self-concept. The correlation of ASC and ACA of high achievers is 0.06 which means very weak because there were some students who got high ACA but have negative ASC while low achievers is 0.41 which means moderate because there were some students who got low ACA but had neutral ASC. Therefore, the research findings show that the English ACA were not always followed by the positive ASC but might be affected by other factors. Keywords:Effective, Learning Outcomes, Learning Models Examples Non Examples, Historical Subjects.

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of conducting his researcher was to improve student’ speaking ability through guided questions at SMP Negeri 6 Satu Atap Sintang in academic year 2015/2016. This research was conducted as a classroom action research to solve the problem that found in the atmosphere of the class, which was students’ lack of ability in the speaking. The subjects of the research were class B, with 35 students. This research is done in three meeting or cycles. So, improving students’ ability  in speaking can be seen in every teaching process that was observed  by the researcher and colaborator. The data showed that the guided questions technicque applied in the class room improved the students’ speaking ability. The result of students’ speaking ability in the first meeting was 6,40 catagorized as average to good, second meting was 6.70 catogorized as average to good and the last meeting was 70,20 categorized as average to good. The observation and field notes also showed that there was improvement in term the of the teaching learning process. Overall, guided question technique  had improved the students’ speaking ability on the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 6 Satu Atap Sintang in academic year 2015/2016. Keywords: Guided Questions, Speaking Ability Abstrak: Penilitian dilakukan bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa melalui mata pelajaran terpimpin di SMP Negeri 6 Satu Atap Sintang pada tahun ajaran 2015/2016. Penelitian ini dilakukan sebagai penelitian tindakan kelas untuk memecahkan masalah yang ditemui di atmosfer kelas, yaitu kurangnya kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara. Subyek penelitian adalah kelas B; yang terdiri dari 35 siswa. Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam tiga pertemuan atau siklus. Jadi, meningkatnya kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara dapat dilihat di setiap pertemuan yang diamati oleh peneliti dan kolaborator. Data menunjukkan teknik pertanyaan yang dipandu yang diterapkan pada subject penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan berbicara siswa dapat ditingkatkan. Hasil kemampuan berbicara siswa pada pertemuan pertama adalah 6.40 yang dikategorikan rata-rata “baik”, pada siklus ke dua adalah 6.70 yang dikategorikan rata-rata juga “baik” dan pada siklus terakhir adalah 7.20 yang dikatagorikan sangat baik. Apa yang tercatat dalam pengamatan dan catatan lapangan juga menunjukkan bahwa ada peningkatan dalam hal proses belajar mengajar. Ini menunjukkan bahwa guided question technique  telah meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa kelas Delapan di SMP Negeri 6 Satu Atap Sintang tahun ajaran 2015/2016. Kata Kunci : Quided Question, Kemampuan Berbicara

Abstract

  Abstract: The purpose of this research was to find out whether or not the schema activation strategy increase students? writing skill of recount text on the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 8 Pontianak. The form of this research was a Pre-Experimental design by using single group pre-test and post-test design. The population of the research is the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 8 Pontianak consisted of 312 students. From the population, the sample class X MIA 4 is taken randomly with 39 students. The result of t-test obtains 6.03 that is bigger than t-table 1.6860. If the obtained t result is bigger (or equal to) the critical t-value, then the null hypothesis is rejected. It means that increasing the students? skill in writing recount text through the use of schema activation indicates a significance different result between the pre-test and post-test. The use of schema activation strategy for teaching writing recount text succeeded in increasing students? writing text. The students? writing score was improved and students can write recount text well and enjoyed in learning English writing. Keywords : Schema Activation Strategy, Writing, Recount Text   Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan apakah strategi aktivasi skema meningkatkan keterampilan menulis teks recount siswa kelas sepuluh SMA Negeri 8 Pontianak atau tidak. Bentuk dari penelitian ini adalah desain Pre-Eksperimen atau desain grup tunggal pre-test dan post-test. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas sepuluh SMA Negeri 8 Pontianak yang terdiri dari 312 siswa. Dari populasi ini, kelas X MIA 4 diambil secara acak sebagai sample yang berjumlah 39 siswa. Hasil t-test mencapai nilai 6.03 dimana lebih besar dari t-table 1.6860. Penggunaan strategi aktivasi skema untuk mengajar menulis teks recount berhasil meningkatkan keterampilan menulis siswa. Abstract

AbstractThis research was intended to improve the students? ability in describing things through real object. The aspects of speaking skill focused in this research were accuracy and fluency. The research method was a classroom action research. The subject of this research was Grade VIII B at junior high school SMP Negeri 3 Sepaukat Sintang regency which consists of 28 students. The data was collected by using oral test, observation checklist and field note, It was analyzed by describing oral test, observation checklist and field note, and by using formula of mean score. The findings indicated the students? ability in describing things improved by using real object as a media in two cycles. The students? mean score in the first cycle was 59.82, the second cycle was 74.11.Describing things through real object is an interesting strategy that can be applied in the classroom. It helps the researcher to remind the student about the things to be described. So, it is hoped that they can speak more fluently. Moreover, by holding something on their hand, the students feel easier to do describing in the front of the class. In addition, the students could learn many vocabularies and grammar through describing things.

Abstract

Abstract             This research aimed to improve students’ ability in writing recount text using guided wh-questions to class VIII C students of SMP Negeri 6 Teluk Keramat in Academic Year 2018/2019. This research was conducted based on the problems found in the classroom. First, students had difficulty in writing recount text because they did not know about the generic structures. Second, students also had difficulties in using simple past tense. The research was conduted using Classroom Action Research in three cycles. The subject of this research was 26 students in class VIII C. The researcher used observational checklists, field notes, and scoring rubric as tools to collect the data. The result showed that the use of guided wh-questions can generate the students’ ideas and develop the ideas in writing. Guided wh-questions was improved students’ achievement in writing recount text concerning the generic structure, language features, and writing mechanics.            Keyword: Improve, Writing Recount Text, Guided WH-Questions.
