Abstract

The Merdeka Curriculum is currently having an impact on the world of education, particularly in terms of accountability regarding teachers’ performance in carrying out their duties as educators. Unlike previous curricula, under the Merdeka Curriculum teachers are required to fulfil a dual role; in addition to being educators, they also bear responsibility for administrative tasks. This issue highlights the fact that teachers play a crucial role in addressing the challenges presented by the Merdeka Curriculum. This study employs a qualitative approach using a case study design to provide an in-depth understanding of school accountability regarding teachers’ teaching practices. The data collection methods used are observation, interviews, and documentation, with a focus on MAN 1 Banyumas. The results of this study indicate that school accountability in the era of the independent curriculum serves as a catalyst for teachers to be more creative. Administrative demands do not act as a barrier for teachers, thereby hindering their performance in classroom teaching. Furthermore, at the Madrasah Aliyah itself, a Teachers’ Working Group (MGMP) has been established, serving as a forum for teachers to collaboratively seek solutions to existing problems.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the form of interaction between teachers and deaf students through the use of sign language in the learning process at SLB B Yakut Purwokerto. Interaction in the learning process plays an important role, especially for deaf students who experience barriers in verbal communication. Therefore, teachers are required to use effective communication methods so that learning materials can be well understood by the students. This study employed a qualitative method with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. Observations were conducted directly during classroom learning activities, while interviews were carried out with teachers and several deaf students. The collected data were then analyzed descriptively to identify the forms of interaction that occurred during the teaching and learning process. The results of the study indicate that teachers use sign language, body movements, facial expressions, and visual media as the main means of interacting with deaf students. The use of such nonverbal communication helps students understand the learning materials, increases their attention, and creates a more active and comfortable learning environment. In addition, the teachers’ patience, attentiveness, and emotional approach were able to build harmonious relationships with the students. In conclusion, interaction through sign language in the learning process at SLB B Yakut Purwokerto plays an important role in improving the effectiveness of learning and supporting the social and emotional development of deaf students

Abstract

This article examines the practice of tasamuh (tolerance) as social capital in strengthening social cohesion among students from different religious backgrounds in senior high schools through the perspective of the sociology of educational institutions. The study focuses on the argument that tasamuh functions as social capital by fostering interaction, mutual recognition of differences, and social cooperation among students. Using a qualitative approach, the research is conducted in educational institutions that demonstrate inclusive social practices, including schools, madrasahs, and Islamic boarding schools. Data are obtained through observations of collaborative activities involving students from diverse religious and social backgrounds, interviews with teachers, students, and school administrators, as well as documentation of institutional policies and programs. The study examines three key dimensions: collaborative learning across different backgrounds, school regulations that prevent discrimination and exclusivism, and teaching practices that promote respect for diversity. The findings are expected to demonstrate how social relations, institutional norms, educational authority, and the experiences of students, teachers, and parents shape everyday educational practices. Furthermore, the study contributes to the development of theoretical discussions on how educational institutions function as social arenas that cultivate trust, solidarity, identity formation, discipline, and social change. The findings are also expected to enrich the discourse on the sociology of Islamic education in Indonesia and provide recommendations for strengthening inclusive educational governance.

Abstract

This study analyzes the formation of students’ religious identity through the boarding school program at Integrated Islamic Junior High School using George Herbert Mead’s symbolic interactionism. Employing a qualitative case study at IT Nusantara Kembaran Junior High School, Banyumas, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. The findings show that religious identity formation occurs through symbolic interaction involving three dialectical stages. First, students interpret religious symbols provided by the boarding school environment, including special uniforms, congregational worship schedules, the use of Ustadz and Santri labels, and daily religious rituals, which shape religious awareness. Second, meaning is negotiated through social interaction among students, supervisors, and the dormitory community, enabling students to take the role of others and understand themselves from social perspectives. Third, religious values are internalized and reflected in concrete behavioral changes, such as increased worship discipline, social responsibility, and peaceful conflict resolution. This research contributes to Islamic education theory by integrating symbolic interactionism and offers practical implications for boarding school managers in designing environments that support students’ religious identity development in structured and meaningful learning contexts.

Abstract

This study examines the academic anxiety experienced by students enrolled in an intensive Quran memorization (tahfiz) program due to the conflict between strict memorization targets and conventional academic demands. As students are required to fulfill dual responsibilities as university learners and Quran memorizers, they often face challenges in managing time, energy, and academic expectations. The study aims to explain how students negotiate these overlapping roles, map the social relationships that influence their daily experiences, and analyze the implications of intensive religious education on their psychological well-being. The research employs an educational phenomenology approach to understand participants’ lived experiences in depth. Data were collected through non-participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentary analysis of schedules, memorization records, and institutional documents. The findings reveal that students experience considerable psychological pressure arising from rigid time management, demanding memorization targets, and academic performance requirements. Evidence from daily activity schedules and memorization logbooks indicates that these demands often contribute to stress and academic anxiety. However, the study also finds that strong social support from supervisors, peers, and family members plays a crucial role in reducing anxiety and enhancing students’ resilience. The study concludes that intensive tahfiz programs effectively cultivate religious discipline and commitment, but they may become counterproductive if not accompanied by integrated academic workload management, flexible learning strategies, and a sustainable social support system that promotes students’ overall well-being.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze teachers' symbolic capital and power relations in the classrooms of MI Muhammadiyah Petambakan. Although studies on teacher authority have been widely conducted, research that specifically examines teachers' symbolic capital in the context of rural Islamic elementary schools remains relatively limited. This study employed a qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, interviews with the principal, teachers, students, and parents, as well as documentation to gain an in-depth understanding of teacher–student interactions in the learning process. The findings reveal that teachers' symbolic capital is constructed through authority, professional status, and social legitimacy recognized within the school community, positioning teachers as respected figures of authority. Power relations in the classroom are characterized by teachers' dominance in controlling the learning process, while students tend to follow the directions provided. Furthermore, disciplinary practices indicate that teachers' symbolic authority is utilized to maintain classroom order, although opportunities for two-way interaction between teachers and students remain present. These findings support Bourdieu's theory of social reproduction while also demonstrating that teacher power relations in madrasahs are not always repressive in nature. Instead, they function as mechanisms for maintaining order and facilitating the internalization of values.

Abstract

Peningkatan kompetensi guru didukung melalui workshop bersama dan mentoring, meskipun para pengajar sering kali menghadapi tantangan nyata berupa penurunan stamina fisik siswa akibat padatnya jadwal aktivitas pesantren.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of dormitory supervisors in student management to improve the discipline of male students at the Miftahul Huda Majenang Islamic Boarding School. The focus of the study is directed at the guidance strategies, supervision patterns, and mechanisms for managing students' daily activities as part of student management practices at the Islamic boarding school. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical design through observation, interviews, and documentation techniques. The research results show that student discipline is formed through the integration of three main elements: intensive, role-model-based guidance, a structured, multi-layered supervision system, and consistent time management. Complex supervisors act as key actors connecting institutional rules with students' daily practices, so that discipline is not merely coercive but internalized in students' behavior. These findings indicate that the effectiveness of student management in Islamic boarding schools is largely determined by a combination of structural controls and cultural approaches. This study concludes that the role of dormitory supervisors is a strategic element in building a sustainable student discipline system. Theoretically, this research contributes to the development of Islamic boarding school-based student management studies by offering an integrative model of guidance, supervision, and role modeling. Practically, these findings can serve as a reference for Islamic boarding schools in designing effective discipline management systems.
