Abstract

This research discusses the food and beverage industry in Indonesia, which has shown significant growth and is an important contributor to the processing industry's GDP. This growth aligns with public awareness of the importance of consuming halal food and drinks, especially amid global trends that prioritize halal and thayibban lifestyles. Halal certification is crucial in meeting the demands of consumers who are increasingly concerned about halal products. This certification guarantees that the product has met halal and quality standards, reached a wider market, and earned consumer trust. However, there are still challenges in implementing halal certification as a whole, especially related to the lack of awareness and compliance of business actors. Research shows that halal certification has implications in business management, including its influence on marketing strategy, global market access, and operational efficiency. Sharia business management becomes relevant in this context, organizing business operations in accordance with Sharia principles to ensure compliance with the rules and principles established by Islam. By strengthening business management in accordance with sharia principles and leveraging halal certification, business players can increase competitiveness, expand markets, and build consumer trust, thereby supporting the growth of the halal food and beverage industry in Indonesia and globally. It was found that halal certification has a strategic impact in product marketing, providing global market access, and strengthening the position of business actors. Implementing sharia business management is also important for ensuring compliance with sharia principles in business operations. Thus, halal certification is the key to entering a wider market and maintaining a competitive advantage in the food and beverage industry.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises play a strategic role in supporting rural economies; however, many of them continue to face limitations in branding management, which affects their product competitiveness. This condition indicates that the challenges encountered by these enterprises are not merely technical in nature but also related to limited strategic understanding in building business identity. This study aims to examine the role of the Community Service Program implemented by students of Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara in strengthening the branding of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises in Saribu Raja Janji Maria Village, Toba Regency. The study employed a qualitative approach using a participatory community service method, involving enterprise owners, students, and village stakeholders. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and activity documentation, and subsequently analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings reveal that prior to the mentoring program, branding was predominantly perceived as a visual element. Through student involvement, this perception shifted toward a more structured business strategy, encompassing the development of business identity, product differentiation, and the utilization of digital media. Students functioned as strategic resources by facilitating knowledge transfer and enhancing the contextual capacity of enterprise owners. The study concludes that the Community Service Program contributes meaningfully to strengthening enterprise branding and supports inclusive rural economic development, while emphasizing the importance of sustained institutional support to ensure the long-term impact of the program.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the strategic factors influencing the growth of the halal industry through a SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats). Using a qualitative literature review approach, relevant research articles published between 2021 and 2025 were analyzed. The findings indicate that the halal industry's main strengths lie in strong government support, its contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a universal market base, and the Halal-Tayyiban concept. However, significant weaknesses persist, including the lack of harmonized global standards, limited infrastructure, and technological gaps. Opportunities are identified in digital transformation, the growing young Muslim population, and expansion into non-traditional markets, while threats include intense global competition and political-economic instability. Based on the analysis, strategic recommendations are proposed, focusing on the harmonization of global halal standards, investment in infrastructure and technology, human resource capacity building, enhanced branding, and the development of a collaborative ecosystem. These measures are expected to accelerate the growth of a sustainable and globally competitive halal industry.

Abstract

This study analyzes the business development of Golden Gallery, an MSME operating in the bridal gown rental service, which faces limited business capacity, particularly in terms of the quantity and variety of its fashion collections amid increasing competition in the wedding service industry. The research focuses on evaluating the service marketing mix, business partnerships, and the feasibility of Islamic financing as strategic efforts to support business expansion. A mixed methods approach with a case study design was employed, utilizing in-depth interviews and consumer questionnaires as supporting data. The findings indicate that Golden Gallery demonstrates strong marketing performance with a high level of customer satisfaction. However, limitations in fashion collections remain a major constraint in meeting market demand. From an Islamic banking perspective, Golden Gallery is considered eligible for financing through a murabahah scheme to enhance business capacity, strengthen competitiveness, and ensure business sustainability. These findings reinforce the importance of Islamic financing approaches that are grounded in the strategic needs of MSMEs rather than solely financial considerations.

Abstract

Abstract: Halal certification is a strategic public policy instrument for strengthening the national Islamic economic ecosystem. Following the enactment of Law Number 33 of 2014 on Halal Product Assurance, the Indonesian government has intensified the mandatory implementation of halal certification, particularly for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Nevertheless, policy implementation at the regional level continues to face various structural, administrative, and socio-cultural challenges. This study aims to analyze the implementation of halal certification regulation for MSMEs in North Sumatra Province using a descriptive qualitative approach. The analytical framework integrates Edwards III’s policy implementation theory with the maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah perspective and Islamic economic values as articulated by Chapra and Asutay. Research data were collected through document analysis, secondary data from the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH), and exploratory interviews with three key informants, namely a regional BPJPH official, a halal facilitator (LP3H), and an MSME actor. The findings indicate that the implementation of halal certification in North Sumatra has improved significantly following the Halal Certification Facilitation Program (SEHATI). However, major constraints remain, including limited human resources, low digital literacy among MSMEs, and weak inter-institutional coordination. This study contributes theoretically by proposing an integrative maqāṣid-based halal policy implementation model and offers practical insights for strengthening Islamic public policy and halal governance at the regional level. Keywords: Halal Certification, MSMEs, Policy Implementation, Maqāṣid al-Sharī‘ah, Sharia Economics.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the challenges, propose solutions, and formulate a development strategy model for sharia-compliant hotels in Riau Province. The study is motivated by the growing demand for sharia-based accommodations among Muslim tourists, alongside various challenges faced by sharia-compliant hotels, including issues related to legality, services, and infrastructure. The research employs the Analytic Network Process (ANP) method using Super Decisions software and involves nine expert informants, comprising academics, regulators, and hotel managers, selected through purposive sampling. The findings indicate that the challenges in developing sharia-compliant hotels in Riau Province can be classified into two main categories: internal challenges (e.g., management, human resources, and financial capacity), and external challenges (especially the roles of the National Sharia Council (NSC), the Indonesian Ulema Council (IUC), and government regulations). Consensus among respondents highlights those external challenges, particularly those related to the NSC and IUC, are the most critical, with an agreement level of 75%. Proposed solutions are also categorized as internal and external, with the top priority being solutions to external challenges, specifically those related to the NSC and IUC (96%). The development model identifies seven main strategies, with the highest priority being the establishment of a hotel entrepreneurs' forum (87%), followed by socialization and education programs. This research recommends strengthening the regulatory and educational roles of the NSC and IUC, as well as establishing an entrepreneurs' forum as a platform for synergy among stakeholders. The implementation of these two key strategies is expected to foster an integrated and sustainable ecosystem for the development of sharia-compliant hotels in Riau Province.
