Abstract

This article aims to analyze the importance of halal certification from the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the food sector, especially chicken-based products. The method used in this study is a qualitative approach to understand the challenges faced by MSMEs in obtaining halal certification, with a focus on the development of culinary tourism in Pasar Kamu, Denai Lama Village. The results of the study show that halal certification not only guarantees the halalness of products, but also improves quality, safety, and competitiveness in the market, as well as expanding the market share of MSMEs amid increasing awareness of Muslim consumers. Although 80% of traders in Pasar Kamu have obtained halal certificates, the main challenge faced is the lack of certified chicken slaughtering facilities, which hinders the other 20% of traders. Recommendations to overcome this obstacle include the provision of certified slaughtering facilities, assistance in the certification process, and cooperation with halal meat providers. Thus, halal certification is the key to increasing consumer confidence, product competitiveness, and village economic sustainability.

Abstract

Sharia tourism is one of the sectors that has great potential in supporting economic growth and the welfare of local communities in Indonesia. Considering that Indonesia is the country with the largest Muslim majority population in the world, optimizing the potential of sharia tourism can be an important strategy to attract domestic and international tourists who are looking for a tourism experience that is in accordance with Islamic principles. This study aims to identify various challenges and solutions needed in optimizing the potential of sharia tourism in Indonesia through the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. This study is based on 13 research journals published between 2018 and 2023. The results of the analysis show that low competitiveness, lack of infrastructure, and limited understanding of the concept of sharia tourism are the main obstacles in the development of this sector. The proposed solutions include the development of supporting infrastructure, education of industry players about sharia principles, innovation in halal tourism products, and synergy between the government, industry players, and local communities. Optimizing sharia tourism in Indonesia is expected to improve local economic welfare by creating jobs and encouraging the growth of sharia-based MSMEs.

Abstract

This study examines the quantitative factors influencing fixed asset impairment in two Indonesian state-owned enterprises (BUMN) operating in the pharmaceutical and construction sectors under PSAK 48. The research problem focuses on declining profitability, high leverage, and negative operating cash flows that potentially reduce asset value. The objective is to analyze the relationship between Return on Assets (ROA), Debt to Asset Ratio (DAR), Fixed Asset Turnover (FATO), and Cash Flow from Operations (CFO) with asset impairment risk. A descriptive-comparative quantitative approach was employed using multi-case study data from 2022–2024 financial reports. The findings reveal that persistent negative CFO and high DAR are the main indicators of asset impairment risk, while the implementation of PSAK 48 remains inconsistent. This study concludes that a financial ratio-based quantitative model can serve as an early detection tool for asset impairment in BUMN. This research is limited to a sample of state-owned enterprises and certain quantitative variables, but has implications for increasing the accuracy of asset impairment testing in accordance with PSAK 48, with the novelty of cross-sector multi-case analysis.

Abstract

Digital transformation has become a strategic necessity for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in responding to global competition, including halal MSMEs in Medan City, which possess significant potential but still face challenges in accessing technology, mastering digital skills, and reaching broader markets. This study aims to analyze the role of digital marketing in enhancing the competitiveness of halal MSMEs, identify the benefits obtained from the implementation of digital strategies, and uncover the obstacles encountered during the digitalization process. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study design, primary data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation from seven halal MSMEs in Medan City. The findings indicate that the active utilization of digital marketing, particularly through social media and e-commerce platforms, contributes to increased business visibility, expanded consumer reach, and enhanced customer loyalty. However, the digitalization process remains hindered by low digital literacy, limited infrastructure, and a shortage of skilled labor. These findings affirm the importance of integrating halal values with digital technology as an effective adaptive strategy in addressing modern market dynamics. This research offers a conceptual contribution to the literature on the synergy between digitalization and the halal economy and provides practical implications for MSME actors and policymakers in designing contextually relevant and sustainable digital empowerment programs.

Abstract

This research discusses the food and beverage industry in Indonesia, which has shown significant growth and is an important contributor to the processing industry's GDP. This growth aligns with public awareness of the importance of consuming halal food and drinks, especially amid global trends that prioritize halal and thayibban lifestyles. Halal certification is crucial in meeting the demands of consumers who are increasingly concerned about halal products. This certification guarantees that the product has met halal and quality standards, reached a wider market, and earned consumer trust. However, there are still challenges in implementing halal certification as a whole, especially related to the lack of awareness and compliance of business actors. Research shows that halal certification has implications in business management, including its influence on marketing strategy, global market access, and operational efficiency. Sharia business management becomes relevant in this context, organizing business operations in accordance with Sharia principles to ensure compliance with the rules and principles established by Islam. By strengthening business management in accordance with sharia principles and leveraging halal certification, business players can increase competitiveness, expand markets, and build consumer trust, thereby supporting the growth of the halal food and beverage industry in Indonesia and globally. It was found that halal certification has a strategic impact in product marketing, providing global market access, and strengthening the position of business actors. Implementing sharia business management is also important for ensuring compliance with sharia principles in business operations. Thus, halal certification is the key to entering a wider market and maintaining a competitive advantage in the food and beverage industry.
