Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hubungan antara media pembelajaran, metode pembelajaran, perencanaan pembelajaran, dan gaya belajar siswa dalam meningkatkan efektivitas pembelajaran biologi di SMA Negeri 5 Medan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah mixed methods (metode campuran) yang menggabungkan pendekatan kuantitatif melalui angket dan pendekatan kualitatif melalui wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa guru biologi secara rutin menggunakan media pembelajaran, terutama media visual seperti gambar, video, dan animasi yang membantu siswa memahami konsep biologi yang abstrak. Namun, pemanfaatan media interaktif dan audio masih terbatas sehingga belum sepenuhnya mengakomodasi variasi gaya belajar siswa. Selain itu, guru menerapkan metode seperti inquiry learning, discovery learning, dan project based learning yang disesuaikan dengan karakteristik materi dan kebutuhan siswa. Kendala yang dihadapi meliputi keterbatasan kemampuan teknologi dan kurangnya pelatihan media digital. Secara keseluruhan, hasil penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa perpaduan antara perencanaan pembelajaran yang baik, pemilihan metode yang tepat, dan penggunaan media yang variatif dapat meningkatkan keterlibatan serta hasil belajar siswa dalam pembelajaran biologi.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menganalisis berbagai kendala yang dihadapi dalam penggunaan media pembelajaran Biologi di SMA Negeri 1 Percut Sei Tuan serta menemukan alternatif solusi untuk meningkatkan mutu proses pembelajaran. Media pembelajaran berfungsi sebagai sarana penting dalam membantu siswa memahami konsep Biologi yang sering kali bersifat abstrak dan sulit dipahami hanya melalui penjelasan verbal. Namun, kenyataannya, masih banyak hambatan yang ditemui seperti keterbatasan fasilitas laboratorium, kurangnya variasi media yang digunakan, serta rendahnya kemampuan guru dalam mengintegrasikan teknologi ke dalam pembelajaran. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi, wawancara, dan angket kepada guru serta peserta didik. Hasil temuan menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas guru masih menerapkan metode tradisional seperti penggunaan papan tulis dan buku teks, sedangkan pemanfaatan media berbasis digital seperti video interaktif dan simulasi virtual masih sangat minim. Penyebab utama permasalahan ini antara lain kurangnya sarana teknologi, minimnya pelatihan bagi guru, dan lemahnya dukungan teknis dari pihak sekolah. Solusi yang disarankan meliputi peningkatan kompetensi guru melalui pelatihan media digital, penyediaan fasilitas pembelajaran berbasis teknologi, serta kerja sama antar pendidik dalam mengembangkan media kreatif. Diharapkan langkah-langkah ini mampu menciptakan suasana belajar Biologi yang lebih menarik, interaktif, dan efektif bagi siswa

Abstract

Pembelajaran biologi di Sekolah Menengah Atas harus mampu menumbuhkan kemampuan berpikir kritis dan analitis siswa melalui proses belajar yang relevan dengan konteks. Analisis terhadap implementasi strategi PBL berbasis kearifan lokal dilakukan karena model ini mampu menghadirkan masalah kontekstual yang mendorong siswa aktif melakukan penyelidikan, diskusi, dan membangun pemahaman secara mandiri. Melalui desain deskriptif kualitatif, informasi digali menggunakan teknik pengamatan langsung dan wawancara tertulis digital melalui platform Google Form. Data yang terkumpul diproses melalui tahapan kondensasi atau reduksi, penyajian secara naratif, dan penarikan kesimpulan yang kredibel. Hasil penelitian bahwa langkah-langkah dalam pembelajaran berorientasi pada masalah telah dilaksanakan dengan baik dengan kategori baik hingga sangat baik pada beberapa aspek, serta mampu menciptakan pengalaman belajar yang lebih kontekstual dan berfokus pada siswa. Penggunaan PBL yang dikombinasikan dengan potensi lokal mampu memperbaiki aktivitas belajar siswa, tetapi memerlukan perencanaan materi pembelajaran dan manajemen waktu yang lebih baik agar dapat dilaksanakan secara menyeluruh dan bermakna.

Abstract

Kearifan lokal merupakan pengetahuan, nilai, dan kebiasaan yang tumbuh dan berkembang dalam masyarakat dan diwariskan dari satu generasi ke generasi selanjutnya. Di tengah perkembangan globalisasi, pemahaman generasi muda terhadap budaya dan potensi lokal mulai berkurang.  Urgensi integrasi kearifan lokal semakin terasa seiring dengan globalisasi yang mempermudah masuknya budaya asing, yang secara bertahap dapat mengikis identitas budaya daerah. Namun, pembelajaran Biologi di sekolah masih belum optimal memanfaatkan keanekaragaman hayati lokal sebagai sumber belajar kontekstual. Kearifan lokal dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai sumber pembelajaran agar materi lebih dekat dengan kehidupan sehari-hari siswa dan lebih relevan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pemanfaatan keanekaragaman hayati lokal di Sidamanik sebagai sumber pembelajaran Biologi untuk siswa di kelas X SMA Negeri 1 Sidamanik dalam penerapan Kurikulum Merdeka. Pada penelitian ini digunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif, dimana pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan wawancara dan angket kepada guru Biologi. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwasannya guru memahami kearifan lokal sebagai penggabungan nilai budaya masyarakat dengan konsep biologi untuk menjelaskan materi keanekaragaman hayati. Guru memanfaatkan tumbuhan, hewan, dan ekosistem yang ada di sekitar sekolah sebagai contoh nyata dalam pembelajaran, misalnya untuk menjelaskan keanekaragaman gen, spesies, dan ekosistem. Pendekatan ini dapat meningkatkan minat dan pemahaman siswa, serta menumbuhkan kesadaran untuk menjaga lingkungan. Namun, ada sejumlah tantangan yang dihadapi guru, misalnya keterbatasan waktu, fasilitas, dan sumber referensi. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa pemanfaatan potensi lokal sangat penting sebagai sumber belajar Biologi agar pembelajaran bisa lebih bermakna, kontekstual, dan relevan bagi siswa.

Abstract

Animalia learning in high schools is still dominated by general textbooks that rarely integrate local biodiversity, resulting in limited cognitive learning outcomes. This study aimed to develop a Crustacea Booklet of Ujung Patikalo Beach as a learning resource for Animalia and to evaluate its validity, practicality, and effectiveness. This Research and Development (R&D) study employed the 4D model (define, design, develop, and disseminate). The study involved six expert validators, one biology teacher, and two Grade X classes of SMA Negeri 1 Tukka as the experimental and control groups. Data were collected through observations, interviews, questionnaires, documentation, and cognitive achievement tests. The booklet was rated highly valid by experts (87.01–91.73%) and received very positive responses from the teacher and students (91.66–99.00%). The experimental class achieved a high N-Gain score (0.71), exceeding that of the control class (0.39). The Independent Sample t-test indicated a significant difference in cognitive learning outcomes between the two groups (p < 0.05). These findings demonstrate that the developed booklet is a valid, practical, and effective local potential-based learning resource for improving students’ cognitive learning outcomes in Animalia.

Abstract

This activity was carried out in Medan Marelan, with the Melati Partner Group. The main problems were the dependence on commercial feed reaching 80% of production costs and the high population of water hyacinth covering 10% of the water surface, causing flooding and ecosystem disruption. The objective of this activity was to provide an alternative through the utilization of water hyacinth as chicken feed. The activity was conducted from April to June 2026 through four stages, namely: socialization to increase partner awareness about the potential of water hyacinth; training and technology application which included structured harvesting techniques, the use of a chopper machine, a feed pellet machine, and the production of fermented feed with a formulation of 10 kg of rice bran, 10 kg of corn, 10 kg of concentrate, 10% water hyacinth (equivalent to 3.33 kg), and sufficient EM4 solution; followed by intensive mentoring to ensure feed processing skills were implemented independently; and monitoring. The results showed that 10% fermented water hyacinth feed resulted in a cost per kilogram of feed of Rp5,366, which is cheaper than non-fermented feed at Rp5,912/kg, enabling partners to save costs of Rp18,270 per 33.33 kg of feed, or approximately 9.2% more efficient. Furthermore, an increase in chicken body weight of 0.4 kg indicated that chicken performance was maintained and not significantly different from 100% commercial feed. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of instructional media and the challenges faced by teachers in implementing Biology learning for Senior High School (SMA) students. The research approach used is descriptive qualitative with Biology teachers at MAN 1 Medan as the research subjects. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and observations, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model which includes data condensation, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that teachers have utilized various types of media, both conventional and technology- based such as videos, infocus, and teaching aids. However, the main obstacles faced are power  outages and limited teaching aids for practical activities. Teachers overcome these obstacles with alternative learning strategies such as learning outside the classroom and utilizing the surrounding environment as a real media. In general, the learning media used are in accordance with the scurriculum, but are not fully effective in improving student learning outcomes due to a lack of media variety and limited facilities. This study recommends the need for infrastructure improvements, teacher training in the use of digital media, and media innovations that are appropriate to student characteristics so that Biology learning becomes more interactive and meaningful.

Abstract

The research aimed to examine the impact of PBL on enhancing students' conceptual understanding and critical thinking skills, as well as to identify challenges encountered during implementation. A mixed-methods approach was employed, with quantitative data collected through Likert-scale questionnaires and qualitative data gathered via semi-structured interviews; data analysis was conducted using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings indicate that the systematic implementation of PBL effectively improved student engagement, analytical abilities, and comprehension of biotic and abiotic relationships within ecosystems. Furthermore, the integration of real-world problems and digital media enhanced student motivation and active participation. However, challenges such as time constraints, limited learning resources, and passive participation among some students were observed. Mitigation strategies including more efficient time management and the provision of additional guidance proved effective in addressing these obstacles. In conclusion, PBL is an effective approach for improving the quality of biology education, particularly in ecosystem-related topics, provided that teachers are adequately prepared and appropriate strategic adjustments are implemented.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of innovative learning models and the pedagogical challenges faced by teachers in teaching the sensory system in biology at SMA Negeri 2 Balige. The research is motivated by the need to improve the quality of biology learning, which is often still teacher-centered and less effective in fostering students’ critical thinking skills. The objective of this study is to analyze how innovative learning models are applied and to identify the pedagogical challenges encountered by teachers during the learning process. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving one biology teacher and 36 tenth-grade students. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed descriptively to provide a comprehensive understanding of classroom practices. The findings indicate that innovative learning models such as Problem-Based Learning (PBL), Inquiry Learning, and Blended Learning have been implemented systematically and have contributed to a shift toward student-centered learning. The use of various instructional media, including PowerPoint, videos, animations, and anatomical models, supports students’ conceptual understanding. However, several challenges were identified, including differences in students’ abilities, limited instructional time, and constraints in developing innovative media. This study highlights the importance of integrating learning models and media effectively, supported by strong pedagogical competence. The findings provide practical implications for improving biology teaching quality through innovative and adaptive instructional strategies.

Abstract

The low level of environmental literacy and critical thinking skills of students in ecosystem learning is a problem that needs attention because students are expected not only to understand ecological concepts but also to analyze environmental problems and determine appropriate solutions. This study aimed to determine the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model based on Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI) on students’ environmental literacy and critical thinking skills in ecosystem topics. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method using a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The research sample consisted of 60 Grade X students of SMA Negeri 13 Medan, with 30 students in the experimental class and 30 students in the control class. The experimental class was taught using PBL based on SSI, while the control class was taught using direct instruction. Data were collected through multiple-choice tests and questionnaires for environmental literacy and essay tests for critical thinking. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene homogeneity test, and Independent Samples t-test. The results showed that the experimental class obtained a higher post-test mean environmental literacy score of 82.92 than the control class of 71.97, with a significance value of 0.01. For critical thinking, the experimental class obtained a post-test mean of 54.29, compared with 45.93 in the control class, with a significance value of 0.02. Thus, PBL based on SSI had a significant effect on students’ environmental literacy and critical thinking skills in ecosystem learning.
