Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji implementasi Project Based Learning (PjBL) dalam meningkatkan pemahaman konsep ekosistem melalui proyek hidroponik berkelanjutan. Kajian ini dilakukan menggunakan metode literature review dengan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif terhadap 15 artikel ilmiah nasional dan internasional terbitan tahun 2020–2025. Analisis dilakukan untuk menelaah efektivitas PjBL dalam konteks pembelajaran sains, khususnya pada topik ekosistem yang berorientasi pada keberlanjutan lingkungan. Hasil telaah menunjukkan bahwa penerapan PjBL secara konsisten meningkatkan hasil belajar, kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi, serta kesadaran ekologis peserta didik. Proyek hidroponik terbukti efektif sebagai media kontekstual yang mengintegrasikan aspek biologi, teknologi, dan kewirausahaan hijau. Kajian ini menegaskan bahwa PjBL berbasis proyek hidroponik berkelanjutan merupakan pendekatan pembelajaran inovatif yang relevan untuk memperkuat literasi sains.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model in improving students' creativity and critical thinking skills in biotechnology. This study uses a literature review method by examining various scientific articles published between 2020 and 2025 through Google Scholar. The data were analyzed using content analysis to examine previous research results related to the application of PjBL in biology learning. The results of the study indicate that the consistent application of PjBL has a positive impact on improving students' creativity and critical thinking skills. Through direct involvement in project activities such as the creation of simple biotechnology products, students actively build knowledge, increase motivation, and gain a more meaningful understanding of concepts. PjBL is also in line with the learning needs of the 21st century, which emphasizes four key skills (critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication). Therefore, it can be concluded that PjBL is an effective, contextual, and relevant learning model for developing students' creativity and critical thinking skills on the topic of biotechnology.

Abstract

Biology learning in the 21st century demands a shift from conventional teacher-centered methods to student-centered approaches to improve critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model is one relevant approach, but its implementation is highly dependent on the quality of teacher planning. This study intends to describe and analyze in depth the PBL model planning process in biology subjects at high school. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. The research subjects are biology teachers and the school's internal MGMP team. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews, non-participatory observation during planning meetings, and document analysis in the form of lesson implementation plans. The results of the study indicate that the PBL planning process at High School 5 Medan goes through several crucial stages: (1) Identification of essential materials suitable for PBL; (2) Formulation of problems (scenarios) that are authentic, contextual, and relevant to the student's environment; (3) Design of systematic learning steps according to PBL syntax; and (4) Development of authentic assessment instruments that focus on process and product. The main challenges faced by teachers in planning are time allocation and alignment problems with the learning outcomes set by the curriculum. This case study concludes that thorough and collaborative planning is an essential key to the successful implementation of PBL and recommends the need for ongoing professional development support for teachers in designing innovative learning.

Abstract

Tanaman sereh wangi (Cymbopogon nardus L.) merupakan tanaman penghasil minyak atsiri yang banyak dimanfaatkan dalam industri farmasi, kosmetik, dan insektisida. Proses penyulingan minyak atsiri dari sereh wangi menghasilkan limbah padat berupa ampas bahan baku, yang jika tidak dikelola dengan baik dapat menimbulkan pencemaran lingkungan, seperti bau tidak sedap akibat pembusukan limbah. Penelitian ini dilakukan selama 30 hari di UMKM Pokki Citronella Oil, Lumban Pongki, Desa Sijambur, Kecamatan Ronggurnihuta, Kabupaten Samosir, Sumatera Utara. Proses pembuatan pupuk organik dilakukan dengan metode fermentasi aerob menggunakan bahan utama limbah padat sereh wangi sebanyak 100 kg, dicampur dengan kotoran ternak, EM4, molase, dan air. engamatan dilakukan terhadap perubahan bau, warna, dan tekstur pupuk selama proses fermentasi. Pada minggu pertama, bau menyengat akibat senyawa volatil berkurang secara bertahap seiring dengan meningkatnya aktivitas mikroba. Warna awal limbah yang coklat muda atau kehijauan berubah menjadi semakin gelap hingga coklat tua pada akhir fermentasi. Tekstur juga berubah dari kasar menjadi lebih halus dan gembur. Limbah padat penyulingan sereh wangi dapat diolah menjadi pupuk organik.  Pupuk yang dihasilkan selama fermentasi 30 hari memiliki karakteristik tidak berbau, gembur, warna hitam dan suhu yang hampir sama dengan lingkungan.

Abstract

This research explores the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in Biology learning for class XI students at SMAN 1 Medan. The research is motivated by the need for effective learning models that can enhance students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills in accordance with the Merdeka Belajar curriculum. The aim of this study is to investigate how well the PBL model is applied in classroom learning and identify challenges during its implementation. Using a qualitative exploratory method with a case study approach, data were collected through classroom observations and questionnaires administered to four Biology teachers and 144 students from four selected classes. The findings reveal that while the initial stages of PBL such as student orientation to problems and organizing students to learn were carried out effectively, the later stages, particularly guiding investigations, developing presentations, and evaluating problem-solving, were not optimally implemented. Teachers tended to provide less guidance during investigations and lacked structured reflection activities. Questionnaire results indicated a positive perception from both teachers and students, although observations showed inconsistency in implementation. In conclusion, the PBL model was generally well-received but still requires improvements, especially in teacher facilitation and reflective practices, to maximize its impact on student learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using microteaching books based on case method and team based project on basic teaching and communication skills. The type of research is development to produce a product and test the effectiveness of that product. The population is all 5th semester students of the biology education study program, FMIPA Unimed who take the microteaching course, the test sample is 30 students. The research design uses the Plomp development model, namely Analysis, Development, and Evaluation. Data collection is carried out at the analysis stage, then the development stage includes the distribution of assessment sheets to experts and response sheets to lecturers and students in the microteaching course. Meanwhile, the evaluation stage is carried out using observation sheets to assess basic teaching skills and communication skills. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and then categorized following the guidelines for categorizing needs, assessments, responses and communication skills. The results obtained indicate that the microteaching book is declared valid, has a fairly good level of practicality, and is effective in improving basic teaching skills and communication skills

Abstract

Latar Belakang: Program ini bertujuan untuk melakukan pendampingan desain pembelajaran kolaboratif dan inovatif sebagai upaya peningkatan keterampilan Guru SMA di Era 4.0 dan mendukung pilar SDGs mewujudkan pendidikan berkualitas. Berdasarkan hasil observasi oleh tim pengusul maka, pendampingan kepada guru SMA Negeri 12 Medan melalui desain pembelajaran kolaboratif dan inovatif untuk mendukung SDGs pilar pendidikan berkualitas. Metode: Metode pelaksanaan program kemitraan masyarakat ini dilakukan melalui tahapan pelatihan dan pendampingan dalam merancang desain pembelajaran kolaboratif dan inovatif, serta mengembangkan dan menyediakan teknologi tepat guna yang mendukung implementasi pembelajaran kolaboratif. Hasil: Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman terhadap pembelajaran kolaboratif dan inovatif sebesar 32% serta kemampuan guru dalam menyusun perangkat ajar digital berbasis teknologi yang mendukung keterampilan abad ke-21. Kesimpulan: Kegiatan ini secara keseluruhan mampu memperkuat kompetensi pedagogik dan digital guru sekaligus mendukung pencapaian SDGs pilar pendidikan berkualitas.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model in biology learning at SMA Negeri 10 Medan. The background of this study is based on the low level of student engagement in teacher-centered learning, which results in less optimal learning activities. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a biology teacher as the research subject. Data were collected through interviews, indirect observation, and documentation. The results show that the implementation of Project Based Learning is able to increase student activeness in the learning process, especially in discussions, group work, and project presentations. Students also show higher enthusiasm as they are directly involved in contextual and experience-based learning activities. In addition, this model encourages students to be more independent in seeking information and actively construct their own knowledge. However, several challenges were found in its implementation, such as unequal participation in group work and limited learning facilities and media. Despite these obstacles, the implementation of Project Based Learning still has a positive impact in creating a more interactive, collaborative, and student-centered learning environment. Therefore, this model can be considered an effective alternative in improving the quality of the biology learning process.

Abstract

Ecosystem learning in biology is often considered complex due to the interaction of various biotic and abiotic components, which can cause students to experience difficulties in understanding concepts when learning remains theoretical. In addition, 21st century learning demands require students to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills. Therefore, appropriate learning models and media are needed. This study aims to analyze the use of terrarium media based on Problem Based Learning (PBL) in teaching ecosystem material at SMAS Nur Azizi Tanjung Morawa. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving one biology teacher and 30 tenth grade students. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the implementation of PBL supported by terrarium media was effective. Students were actively involved and showed positive responses. The terrarium media helped students understand ecosystem concepts more concretely and increased motivation. However, limitations in media availability and time allocation were still found. Overall, the use of terrarium media based on PBL has a positive impact on students’ learning activities and conceptual understanding.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in teaching cell membrane transport material in grade XI at SMAS Panca Budi Medan. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that PBL was implemented through stages of problem orientation, group discussion, investigation, presentation, and evaluation. This model improved students’ activeness, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills. In addition, membrane transport material became easier to understand because it was related to real-life contexts. However, there were obstacles such as limited time and differences in student participation. Overall, the implementation of PBL was effective in improving the quality of biology learning.
